"Now, now... I have no intention to fight you" I can't say the feeling is mutual.

Imagine, you, a good loyal and strong fellow who fell in love with the princess of your dream. She kinda likes you back too and even though she was destined to marry another, you both still had some hopes left in your hearts. But then, She got kidnapped and you stopped at nothing to get to her. You'd sail through seas of endless sand and fight hordes of monsters to get to her. Once you finally did, you came to realized that she's been tortured all these time you were trying to look for her by a cruel twink fox thing that can't keep his own shits to himself. Her body got extremely modified and all her hopes had died off before she could herself. In a last ditch effort to not suffer anymore, she asked you, the person that loves her so much, to bring up a sword to end her. Knowing full well that you're the only one who loves her too much to see her suffer anymore, you'd be the one to end it all for her. Man bof4 got some really deep shit and I really feel bad for Cray there. I really wished he could really kill Yuna with his own bare hands.

Also, iinm they were "missing" her by just several hours... Very ironic considering Cray himself told Nina (when she was being impatient) that they should take it easy, and that "what is several hours of difference would make".

Fou Lu was hexed by that Yuna bof.fandom.com/wiki/Carronade Yuna sacrafice Mami who help him from being capture into a soul bullet that can curse him. The more they care,they love , the more hatred result will give. Yuna feel that those people die too easy and can't produce enough power for Carronade. So that's why he use Elina for his testing to improve his Carronade power. Just hope it will be destroyed -*- Very cheating weapon at all.

I remember playing this as a 9 years old. I rage & cried a lot at this scene. Poor Cray & Elina..

Man, didn't expect BoF IV to be so dark, and min you, I say that as an adult, thankfully I didn't play this as a child lol. Played it during COVID, I believe, or in 2021... In hindsight, the BoF series overall is pretty dark. BoF II was my favorite! I'm happy-go-lucky haha

Thanks for this upload. I'll never forget this moment in this game. I never thought I'd actually get to share conversation with people either about it. I never knew anyone else that played it. Amazing RPG!

Replaying this game on Twitch, and man, I can't wait to get to this part of the game. It was so creepy and unsettling back in the day, I can't wait to see how it hits me today so many years later. Currently just arrived in Wyndia, so I've got a little ways to go yet.

Yuna was supposed to be killed by Fou-Lu but the producers had to scrap the scene due to time constraints. Many fans speculate that Yuna is the creator of Myria/Tyr, having survived the events of BoF 4 which is possibly a prequel to BoF 1-3.

yuna being alive is pretty important to the themes of the story. this rumor is totally just based on fans' wishes.

Scenes like this and what happened to Mami on Fou-lu's side of the story absolutely wrecked me when I played it as a kid. I was like 15, I was not prepared for this game. :'(

Yes Mami was tortured wit hot iron sacrificed for Caronnade, horrible imagine, Yuna was in command also that midget ugly man with fire magic, ugh i hate them, also this Elina, she became abomination with those organs growing every second in Astana underground ugh, gross, she needs to be killed and cleansed, Yuna needs to be killed in most painfully ways for his doing

Playing this as a kid. This scene fucked me up so bad that it was seared into my brain. I felt so sad and angry at the same time, even today.

Just came here after watching a Bof6 review... if that game can even be called a Breath of Fire game.

Actually when Ryu had that ... moment when he walked in the room I think he already knew .. As an endless himself he sensed it. But he didn't want to take matters into his own hands and when she asked him to leave the dragonslayer he knew what she would ask cray to do with it.

i like this game, because this my first RPG game, n i fon in love whit this art stile ,story, n the ost... the pixel art is prety beautifule thes why my favorite game is pixel game, n rpg game now

Back when creator games maked a game with a full interest and meaning story

The first 3 are all definitely in the same world. It states in game that BOF2 takes place 500 years after BOF1. And at one point in the game, the BOF 2 Nina actually talks to the BOF1 Nina and finds out that the original Nina caused their clan to lose their power to transform into birds at will when she "married a man of another tribe" presumably the original Ryu. In BOF 3 there is a Tapestry which shows the battle between the heroes and the Goddess Tyr/Myria.

I never played the previous BoF but seems that the BoF 1-4 needs a remake

This was too much for me as a kid. Still, it made me appreciate stuff and shaped me what I am today.

classic wtf moment in rpg gaming history (and not even the happy/funny kind)

This thing is etched to my head till is. I played this game almost 2 decade ago and whoever know that the story would go this dark. At some point you just have to agree with Fou-lu.

This scene took the game from good to great in my opinion. It really showed the breadth of emotion the devs wanted the player to experience while playing, and the game does an amazing job of making this moment a surprise upon first playthrough

The saddest thing that I saw in a video game. I almost cried when I saw this.

I had to take a break on the game for a week when I saw Elina's state lol.

What a horrid person. She had a destiny, too. And he only decided that he was more important because he thought he was powerful. I hate him.

@sirpyan No problem :) Also, I recommend keeping an eye out at "something or other scanlations", and mangafox. The guys at "something or other" are finally in the process of translating the chapter of the BoF4 manga that correlates with this scene!

@pokemaniak30 Aside from Momo, Rei, and Teepo saying they were from a different dimension, there's something else showing BoF4 is not a part of 1-3's continuity. In BoF4, it's stated that the dragons are gods, and at the end, all the dragons vanished from the world. In BoF1-3, the dragons had always coexisted with humans, and made no reference to them being gods. Regardless, every BoF game has their own unique and independent story line. I can see 1-3 being possibly related, but not 4.

@GothicBlood0 Uhm, I wasn't aware that BoF4 was the prequel to BoF. To my knowledge, they were totally different story arcs. The only two BoF games that had any sort of correlation was BoF and BoF3, even then, they weren't perfectly synced up. Let alone the fact that Momo confirmed that the BoF4 was of a different realm to BoF3 when she sired you.

Yuna is one of if not THE most evil people in the series and he BELIEVES HE IS DOING RIGHT. THIS guy is on a whole other level of evil to Myria (Goddess complex), Deathevan (Mommy's boy) and Chetyre (Escaping his prison and just fuck everyone else), he doesn't just love making people suffer, he perpetuates it and he never even gets his commupance. While the others did a lot of destruction on a mass scale, they at least had some drive to it beyond just creating suffering. Myria wanted to contain people's destructive potential to not go above her own, Deathevan was just a vengence offspring, Chetyre wanted to break out to the surface and claim it as his own, Yuna just wanted to play god with innocent life as a simple tool that he has a right to.

Interestingly enough there was a character similar to Yuna in Dragon Quarter, I’m talking about the scientist who made Nina’s ventilator/wings. He also got away unharmed..

I played this back in 2009or earlier using ps1 emulator. I dont remember how this game ended but somehow remembered I was shocked by the something about main character,s sister.. its amazing it has been a decade I still remember somthing about this game..

This game is a prequel from bof 1. But the end in the manga was different, maybe someday we can play a directly sequel from this history

@@guts6310 to be honest the connection betwen 4 and 1,2,3 is still vague, there are many theories. Thought it would be interesting if myria is actually a reincarnation from elina, but that would not explain myria relationship with deis.

@ShadowDragon00000 SPOILERS All BOF's happens in the same world and story BOF 1 shows the defeat of myria by ryu. BOF 2 is the direct sequel of BOF 1, since the last boss is the "son" of myria, that she created after her defeat in bof 1 and that is trying to bring her back. BOF 3 comes right afer. BOF 4 is considered a prequel because it shows ryu and his other half more like gods than dragons, and is the only game of the series that mentions dragon gods, but not myria or the dragon clan.

@Daosguard You're probably right. BoF3 was the first BoF I've ever played. I tried going back to BoF1 and 2 but they never really held my interest long enough for me to confirm a connection between the three. The monument is a pretty clear indication that they're connected, but since it portrayed the BoF1 characters, I always thought that BoF2 was of its own continuity. However, I'm still pretty convinced BoF4 is of its own continuity, much like BoF5. Their story lines don't seem to mesh.

@pokemaniak30 Actually, none of the BoF's share their storylines. I can understand why you think that, however, the only common aspect between all BoF's are the characters. Remember what Momo said when you meet her in BoF4? She mentioned that she was from a different dimension, not a different timeline. Furthermore, Rei and Teepo were in BoF4. If BoF4 was a prequel as you claim it to be, then Rei and young Teepo couldn't have possibly been in it.

Those characters being in it is more an easter egg than anything. 1-4 are in the same timeline. 4 being the first and 3 being the last. Each game takes place 500-1000 years since the predecessor, and each becoming more and more focused on the extinction of the endless or "dragons"

All 4 stories are about the reliance on gods. In BOF1 Tyr is a wish-granting goddess in a tower. I never completed 2 but I know it features Tyr's progeny. 3 Myria believes she must protect the world from the desert and so tries to wipe out the dragons who she sees as a threat to her ability to do that. 4 The people summon gods to the world to ease their suffering in a desert dominated world. 3 and 4 expound the people's ability to make their own decisions without gods. However after Ryu dispels the god-like powers in BOF4, Yuna makes it clear that he will create new gods. Given Elina's uncanny resemblance to Myria, this is why people draw the conclusion that BOF4 is a prequel. And that when Myria describes the world's future without her in 3 she is actually describing the world's past prior to her creation. Of course, it's all theory as the link between 4 is never definitively stated either way.

@ShadowDragon00000 SPOILERS Momo and Rei would recognize ryu and nina, which they didn't, and Teepo would alredy be dead. Besides, these are just cameos, they shouldn't be considered canon. I believe that at least the first 3 BOF's are from the same world and i have given facts that prove this theory. I believe BOF 4 is a prequel, that's my theory, but you may be right, the arguments you have are plausible too, i respect that. Btw, sorry for the engrish.

When I first played this game, it was only available in English and I couldn't understand it yet. I must have been 8 or 9. Needless to say, I missed a lot of the story, having mostly the images to interpret what was going on. I didn't fully understand this scene back then, and, when I played it again a few years ago fully understanding the dialogue, I was shocked about how horrifying Elina's fate really was.

@ShadowDragon00000 Anyway, Breath of Fire series are all perfect, the story (even if there's no connection between them ... ) are very interesting, full of action, drama, and everything that everyone love =D Breath of Fire was my first game at PlayStation 1 and it was my first RPG, since them, I love Breath of Fire Series very much and I play all kind of RPGs =)

You're actually very wrong. BOF2 takes place 500 years after BOF1. It even says so during the game. BOF 3 takes place an indeterminate amount of time after BOF2. During BOF3 you see a mural depicting the battle of BOF between the heroes and Tyr, who was renamed Myria in BOF3. The elder explains that it is the history of his people, showing their fight throughout the ages against a great recurring evil. Bof4 is never stated as having any connection to the other games.

1 : Tyr wasn't "renamed". Myria was always her name in Japan. 2 : Deis (Bleu) is present in all four games, so there is a connection.

@@OmegaDez . Yeah, actually in BoF2 when Deathevan mentions her he calls her Myria (and the Wise Dragon man at Dologany mentioned her too, I think so). However, Bleu being in the fourth game doesn't mean there is connection at all with the other games, she could have come from another dimension (as conjectured by Momo).
