You should play Transistor, the main character is a singer who loses her voice during a catastrophic tragedy.

And it's only a couple of hours to complete, so it would be easy to put such an amazing game in your schedule. I would say Transistor is one of the only games where story really touched me, and it's great music helps a lot

@@prosheene coupled with Klimt inspired visuals, do androids dream of electric sheep vibes, a melancholic love story with mystery, and a still unmatched combat/power system... what an absolutely unique experience. Pyre really touched me on an emotional level as well, to the point that it was the only game that made me completely ignore gameplay implications of a "fight" and sabotage myself and my progress in order to make a character happy. and the ending song made me tear up.

AND being a supergiant game!
“Hey Red… we’re not going to get away with this, are we?”

Somehow, reading this line brought back so many memories of times long gone, when I played Transistor when I was still not exposed to the life I have now. I hear the voice and this line now and I start tearing up. The tragedy of this game, the worry of not knowing where I was going in my own life, it touched me. This game really touches me. I wish it got more attention than it got.

"New Game +" makes that line. . .hit different.

That line hits different in recursion mode lol.

Damn that one always strikes me when i begin the game.
Kinda wish you listened to the version with Red humming along to the song. Old Friends is a dope song, but having Red 'sing' along makes it even better
@Sternraum

It's especially poignant, considering what happens to Red.

Every time I hear the original song my brain defaults to the humming version even now
I really really hope you do follow-ups on the rest of the soundtrack... the songs with vocals (by Ashley Barrett) are sung by the game's protagonist, and are intertwined in the games's experience: not only in the story those are songs she sang BEFORE the start of the game since she lost her voice, but the game has a button that makes her *hum*, and she always starts humming the right part of the soundtrack (while lights go down and a spotlight shines on her). It's really a magical experience (and Paper Boats is one of my favorite songs, period, not just for video-games).

I second this hope. Paper Boats is so, so good. Both in and out of context.
Transistor soundtrack is so melancholic and impactful, even 10 years after I've played that game I immediately want to start bawling just from hearing the first notes. It just hits in the feels so effectively

ikr? I remember crying to this song after beating the game around release, profoundly emotional
transistor, and the rest entire Supergiant games library, are all games you need to try out. Mother I'm here from Bastion is a masterpiece in particular, and it made the moment surrounding it a masterpiece.
Transistor's OST is special. The vocals songs fits so well with the Story and the main character. I Hope you give it a try in the future. Its a unique game. Great video as always! greetings from Chile!
This is one of those games i recommend to anyone, but especially musicians/performers
Darren Korb, the composer for Supergiant, is an amazing composer. Even the few times a Supergiant game didn't click with me personally, the music always does.
supergiant!! thrilled to see my fave game studio on here. i’m impressed how well you nailed the emotions of the scene this plays in with your analysis. it’s a very sad and lonely moment, and also the very beginning of the game so the song is definitely encouraging the player to “move on, alone.” great stuff! would love to see more supergiant on here some day - especially from bastion, transistor, and pyre, if you ever feel up for it! (bastion’s vocal themes in particular are in my opinion very powerful. i recommend “mother, i’m here” if you’re interested!)

There were some copyright claim issues I’ve been told have been rectified so I’d expect more analysis of the tracks/commentary on the games!
Transistor is a great game, it's really short and the soundtrack is amazing, the protagonist is actually a singer so a lot of the vocal tracks in the game are her in-universe songs. Would definitely recommend it.
when this game released back in 2014 i just bought it because it looked interesting but i wasn't expecting it to shift my view of Gaming so much.. and it also was the game that made me aware of the beauty and magic of Game OSTs. Since then i have carried that love for Game Soundtracks and i am very thankful for the experience it gave me
Pretty sure that after this composition I fell in love with Supergiants. Either this or "We all become"
Please listen to the versions with the added humming. It somehow brings the tracks together in a different way.
I'm glad that you reacted to this one, it's the one that hit hardest for me as far as instrumental tracks go in Transistor, especially hearing it in game the first time. Your comments on the reflective nature explain why I felt something akin to nostalgia the first time I heard this song! Transistor's soundtrack as a whole has really stuck with me. This from a game that took me under 10 hours (and I was really taking my time, listening to Red's humming, reading the lore). Supergiant and Darren Korb really never miss.
not gonna speak about private stuff but i genuinely needed this, transistor is a special game, a painful but beautiful one
There is an ingame option to make the MC humming to the song that plays at the moment. The "Old Friends" with her voice is great.
can´t wait for you to play it
Transistor is my favourite game of all time. I love every aspect of this game. Soundtrack, characters, artstyle, story, gameplay. Wonderful and very emotional title for me in forever. I can replay it over and over.
Everything about Transistor is a masterpiece, and its crowning jewel is the music.
Transistor as a game is an experience and the studio behind it is incredible in creating these short and intense stories with simple seeming gameplay that is actually quite fun to play around with.
The spine of the world will always be on my playlist. My friend wasn't even watching the game and started crying when that song came on.
Transistor on Marco channel! Let's gooooo! So glad you enjoyed this track! The game's OST is incredible.
This is my favorite music track in the game. Happy to see you give it a listen. This track, even back when it was brand new, always made me think of me and my best friend back from my teenage years. We're both now in our early 30s, but haven't talked much in a few years. Know the man's still alive, as I see from time to time the Steam notification he started playing a game.
I absolutely love this game. It has a dozen tracks I could easily have recommended. Music is intrinsic to its vibe -- your character is a songstress who's had her voice stolen and can only hum. Many songs have a hummed version. Check out "In Circles", "Heightmap", "Gold Leaf" (especially the hummed version) and "Paper Boats".
"Hey, Red. We're not going to get away with this, are we?" I love "In Circles", but you also have to listen to "_n C_rcl_s" afterward, both from the Transistor soundtrack. The first is sung from the perspective of Red, the player character. The second is sung from the perspective of Sybil Reisz, her #1 fan.
i think its also interesting how that one drum line sounds like a heartbeat and it sounds incredibly anxious. makes it feel very introspective. youre listening to the beat of your own heart and the reflecting aspect you mentioned really makes a lot of sense with that in mind.
Transistor! One of my favorite soundtracks ever, from my favorite game studio. I think you'd really love this game, Marco - the main character is a singer, and there are a bunch of in-universe songs featuring the incomparable Ashley Barrett, all rendered in this haunting, gorgeous post-rock/ electronic style. And you actually picked up many of the themes at play in the story just from your listen to this track - loss, reflection, meditation on how (or whether) to move forward.
Almost jumped out of my seat as soon as I saw you reacting to this. Transistor's music is the music I unknowingly repeat in my head for days on end ❤
Hell yeah, been looking forward to you covering some Transistor music. The soundtrack is a banger.
Yooo! I just started a fresh game of Transistor this week! As others have suggested, the humming track really adds-- and if I had to suggest another song definitely the title theme of We All Become! Always so excited to see you dabble in things I like, especially when I've forgotten about them and you get to reignite the joy! :D

For future ones, because I'm sure it would be hard to know without playing the game maybe you could do a listen of the base track and then the hummed versions and give us your impressions and how the voice added or changed your perception? I think that would be so cool ^^
As always, Marco, you catch the vibe of a song remarkably well even without context. Hope you get a chance to play Transistor soon. It’s fairly short (~10 hours) but has a wonderful soundtrack, immaculate vibes, and made me cry.
This is one of the only games I've ever replayed and its utterly beautiful. Old friends has been my favorite song for years and its always a special feeling.
Imagine listening to this walking alone... in a city full of lights but only the traces of people... The ghosts wait so long to show up, but they do pass ya by, igniting memories that ya used to cherish, but... they are not here now.
So happy to see Transistor on here! I'd love to see you do a full playthrough of the game; I think it's one that you'd really enjoy, especially since the plot revolves around a singer who has lost her voice (among other things). And it has an AMAZING OST.
Ooo. Old Friends. That’s a classic from Transistor. It was used in one of its prominent trailers (I think it's launch trailer...?). Either way, it's a good song, right up there alongside the vocal tracks of the game. Also, while I won't spoil anything directly, you're eerily close to Transistor's themes. "Alone in a city," "Gaining and losing friends." "Memories long gone."
Transistor's soundtrack permanently altered my brain chemistry. It's SO good.
I’d LOVE to see your take on more of the super giant soundtracks. Ashley Barrett and Darren Korb are absolutely legends.
Cried at the end of the game.... It's truly a great story
One of my top 5 favorite games. Music is such a core component of the game and its themes. Nearly every song has an instrumental and vocal version, but the seperation of the two versions is key to the story... I'd love to see you react to the OST. It's by the same team that did Bastion, Hades and Pyre. Some stand outs are: *The Spine *We All Become *In Circles (and it's much sadder boss battle recontextualization: "_n C_rcl_s") *She Shines *Signals *Paper Boats (My personal favorite) (and just a fun silly one: Sandbox)
omg transistor my beloved. marco give this game a try, seriously, its not even long so very worth it.
I was never able to really get into the gameplay of Transistor, but I love the soundtrack and have listened to it many, many times.
Transistor is such an amazing game, I’m glad to see you reacting to the songs
god this is one of my favorites. You should play this game, you would adore it.
GOSH DARN IT!! I knew I was missing a game with good music! DUDE, PLAY THE GAME!! It’s actually a good game, and the music is incredible!
Couldn't click on the thumbnail fast enough, would love to see you do a playthrough someday! The soundtrack is fantastic and the game itself isn't that long.
This song, be it the instrumental you were listening to, or the humming version, was what got me hooked to Transistor in the first place.
You gotta listen to "Nine Sols" By Collage from the game, well, Nine sols. This song hit hard.
Oh man, I completely forgot about this game. It was excellent. Definitely worth the time.
Like most Supergiant games (Bastion, Pyre, Hades) this game has some really amazing music that is excellent both in and out of context. In this case, a lot of the music really is amplified a lot by the context the game provides, as some of the game's iconic tracks are really made more poignant because of the scenes they are featured in (this one included). Absolutely worth a play, real gem of a game.
I just recently discovered your channel because of a Destiny video and literally just finished your reaction to the Final Shape ending (made me cry again lmao) and you just uploaded a video about one of my favorite games in terms of music. Anyways, just wanted to say that I really apreciate your channel and now i'll binge a lot of your videos
Sure I'm not the only one, but I have suggested Transistor before on this channel. Great to hear the analysis!
damn, this is nostalgic Played the game a long time ago but the ost is instantly recognizable
All I heard were those first few notes and knew this soundtrack was gonna be peak.
"Hey Red... We're not gonna get away with this are we?"
My next hat in the ring is «the grand ceremony» from Pyre. Like many have pointed out, all of supergiant’s games are masterpieces in their own right, and their music is just as great
ah, Transistor... I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH!
Great game. Relatively short, but it's truly a unique gaming experience that everyone should try.
This gives a bit of citizen sleeper vibes which is an ost I think you’d really appreciate
as others have said already, I do think you'd enjoy transistor. wonderful music, interesting gameplay, emotional story, and iirc not too long of a playtime.
glad you are doing these again
oh, man, such a throwback, loved this game!
I think you would love "The Songs of Supergiant Games" album. It pretty much consists of orchestral versions, of vocal songs performed by Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett (Lament of Orpheus etc.)
YES this ost remains my fav of supergiants work to this day. It has such a great tone
Transistor is still my favorite game from Supergiant. The visuals, the atmosphere and the concepts are so unique.
Both transistor and bastion have amazing ost you should definitely check out a few more. Especially any of the songs with vocals
You read through music so accurate
Transistor and its music are 10/10
Transistor is great! Amazing game with fun gameplay mechanics, gorgeous artstyle, compelling story, and killer soundtrack. Darren Korb is legendary. His music in Bastion and Hades is also incredible if you haven't checked those out yet!
Circle is still my favorite song from Transistor.
Of all the video game vinyls I have, the Super Giant and the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds ones are some my favs.
man I loved this game
HELL YES MORE SUPER GIANT MUSIC
Love this game.
Gracias por el vídeo, me hizo recordar a mi abuelo 🥲
Yes! YES! YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!! FINNALLLYYYYY!
Please listen to more Transistor, Darren Korb and Ashley Barret did amazing work with this OST
Well, now I want to replay Transistor (and Bastion).
Darren Korb is amazing, I've listend to this, bastion, hades A LOT
YEEEEESSS!!! This game its a masterpiece, you should play it!
Yo this game is SO GOOD
This is captain bones approved
The immediate descriptor of "Old Friends" I default to is sarcastic
Transistor is what made me fall in love with Supergiant games, its definitely dated compared to hades, but I HIGHLY recommend playing it
If you liked this one you gotta check out In Circles on the same OST
Mr. Meatball, i have to say ive been following you for a while now, maybe a bit over a year (since you were doing opera singer reacts videos) and i have NEVER jumped so quickly on a video. There is not a single bad track in any SuperGiant game. Im not exacrly one to have a favorite game studio, or to trust a game will be good just because a certain studio made it. But SuperGiant games have never once disapointed on any level. I played all of them. If you take suggestions: for you,i think Transistor would be an excellent game. Hades also has, frankly, exceptional music in a style that is pretty unique for its themes and genre. I hope you choose to play some SuperGiant games, or, at least, listen to some more of their music!
You should play Transistor and make a video about all Ashley Barrett musics
All i can say is...Paper Boats. Bittersweet song.
Whole Transistor music is insane, you should play it really, music is huge part of the game cause MC is singer, and I was crying at the end Also please listen Song of the Deep\Sirens from Hades 2
Transistor will take your heart and throw it in the F-in trashcan
This game was really good, very beautiful, strange and interesting, but what would you expect from the devs behind bastion.
you should really check out the soundtrack of Pyre from the same company. The lyrics of the songs change with your choices in game
If u start doing Daren Korb then Setting Sale Coming Home would be a surprise for you, since there 2 vocals that sing different lyrics, its actually 2 songs in 1
damn i gotta carve some of my hades 2 time to replay Transistor
Marco its Wednesday, i can't throw myself into alchool today!
hell yeah supergiant.
Please I really recommend you to listen something from Sonic games! It hystorically has one of the best videogame OSTs and you're the only big VGM reactioner who didn't listen to it! You can start from Sonic Frontiers music
please react to bastion i'm coming home. its super giant first game and best music.
You should REALLY play transistor supergiant knows music and story
Day 9 of asking Marco to play Limbus Company
