Breaker's Yards and Rubbish Loads

Back on container work and having some fun collecting... well... a bunch of rubbish.
Most of the times we as container drivers are loading trash for export, this is a little story and an insight of the industry from my perspective

    I have to do a lot of deliveries on the north coast of Wales and the worst part about that speed limit is that no one's paying attention when it does change back to 30 or 40 and you're still stuck crawling along at 20.

    The bananas ensure you're central on the bay for the extending floor to go into the trailer. It's good when they're wet, you can be off a few inches and the trailer will just nudge over as the wheels hit it.

    Another great video Raul. I live in Wales and I hate the blanket 20mph speed limit with a passion and I’ve barely spoken to anybody who agrees with it. There’s been outrage about it, a petition against it has already had over 400,000 signatures and there are demonstrations planned. The Welsh people have had enough of this barmy Welsh Government! By the way, I’ve got a Citroen and I love it 😂

    Whilst i disagree with the blanket 20mph limit cant see the logic in people saying , " but modern vehicles stop better and quicker ". I agree, but if you hit something or person the stopping distance becomes immaterial. Stopping distance only relates to when you know you need to break.

    You usually have *some* reaction time tho, so it does matter how quickly vehicles stop. Either way, up to 50km/h crashes are rarely fatal, so that's why usually 50km/h is the city speed limit all over the world. 30km/h makes sense for when you have very little visibility, for example neighbourhood roads, but otherwise 40-50km/h is usually fine. I get annoyed tho when there is some boulevard with parked cars all along it, and I have to drive right next to them: then I don't have the needed visibility, but as it's a boulevard everybody else is driving with 50km/h.

  • @pm8465

    @pm8465

    @erejnion I know what you're thinking but the fact is even if you were driving with full attention to the road, at 50kph you'd have travelled 8 or 9 mtrs before you even apply the brakes and then another 14 mtrs stopping. That's for vehicles in perfect condition, fully attentive driver, and perfect road conditions. Don't know whether you've been hit as 50kph, but I spent 30 yrs in the police dealing with it and can't recall many walking away, and that depends on what type of vehicle hit you. I don't agree with blanket 20mph in Wales, but maybe some is justified. Needs more consideration.

    @@pm8465 I think you aren't reading what I am saying. Try again. I made very specific claims. Again, if you have little visibility, you obviously don't have these ~20 meters. But 20 meters is not much at all, all things considered, even in an urban environment. And if worst comes to pass, and you do get hit by somebody with 50km/h, it's rarely fatal. You may not walk away from such a hit, but you will most likely walk eventually. That's just not true for speeds above 50km/h: the fatality rates shoot up for higher speeds.

    The limit 20 mph works. It’s easier to get out of side roads into the traffic, and we spend less time at the traffic lights. In most of Cardiff the traffic rarely gets above 18 mph anyway, most f the time in queues.

    When you were reversing into that Loading-Bay Area (near the end of the video), I was reminded of how I prefer to Lift Up the most-rear Axle of the trailer (in Eurotruck Sim 2) especialy in smaller yards because otherwise you have to go Wider if all 3 axles are fixed and it can be more of a challenge.

    I have to agree, but if so many people are mad about it, then maybe they could meet in the middle and limit to 25. If it was really about safety though, they'd just make it mandatory for all vehicles to have emergency braking sensors like modern trucks have.

    I don’t live in Wales and I’m glad I don’t. What a bunch of little hit lers they must have in government (even worse than in England) to impose such pointless rules on everyone. Just authority for the sake of authority. It makes no difference to greenhouse gases, safety or anything else. I was going to Wales for a holiday next year but won’t be going now. I wish the Welsh people no ill but I hope this new speed limit is an absolute catastrophe, especially for the Welsh economy. Their ultimate goal is to reduce car ownership and force people onto abysmal public transport.

    I’m Welsh and I 100% agree with what you say. They’re on a power trip. They put an average speed check of 50mph around Port Talbot, they say for the environment. Yet Port Talbot has one of the largest Steelworks in Britain, which creates unbelievable pollution. You couldn’t make it up.
