I have the 16inch version. I love how short and handy it is. I had to do alot of work to mine as well to get it suitable for me. Fun guns for sure. Even with the 16inch barrel I'm still getting around 1800fps. Much higher than a revolver.

Great video, Thanks and Thank your for your service to our country. I just picked up the 16" stainless version the other day. I went to my LGS for other reasons and there it was, just sitting on the shelf, eyeballing me to no end. Got it for $690, so it came home with me. I did get "how many guns do you need" when I got home, my reply was "how many pairs of shoes and purses do you need?" Pretty quiet at dinner that night. I'm in the process of breaking it in like your video. Out of the box, fit and finish are pretty good. No sharp edged on the loading gate, so hopefully Rossi has been reading reviews and fixed that. A couple screws needed tightening, the stock screw and one on the receiver. Cycling is a little stiff, but I notice it getting better the more I break it in. Loading gate is stiff also, I might do some spring work on that if it doesn't loosen up. I'm looking forward to more videos. 👍

This is the rifle I carry in my truck. Because both our handguns are .357 we only have to carry .38 special or .357 magnum. Because of limited space on a tractor trailer it works for us. Great gun hope you have lots of fun with it Rick.

I have the same gun in the blued version and love it. I just leave the safety off and ignore it but I'm looking forward to your video on taking it off. There is a little device that you can buy that makes it fire every single time you cycle the lever action ( like on the old rifle man series) that just pops on and off that's fun to use every now and then. That's a great deal you got on that gun I paid nearly that much for my blued version.

I love my lever. Bought a Winchester model 64 at gun swap back in the 80's. [ 30-30 ] Traced serial number and was made back in 1935. some wear on it before I got it and smooth like you say with use over time. Saddle gun for me and fixed sights, never needed to a just them, just a good gun that has put a few meals on the table. I got a Browning 270 cal lever some 15 + years ago. I like it but not like the old one...

Sweet and practical piece Ricky. I've always wanted to snag one of the Rossie 92's in 357 stainless. It does have a bad reputation for being a skin remover at the loading gate. That and that safety is the only thing negative that I've ever heard about that rifle. Other than that it's a very practical rifle for many applications. Especially if your on a budget and need fewer or even one gun to do many jobs. And especially being an old wheel -gun man, I carried a 357 when I was on the job, it marries up nicely to any 357/.38 The longer barrel does boost the Remington 125 grain JHP 357 rounds that Walmart used to sell in the 100 round "value packs" for under 40 bucks (damn, those days are GONE!) to almost AK power. I hate that the prices on the Rossi 92 has went up so much. Like everything they used to be much more reasonably priced, around 400 bucks or so if I remember correctly. And the cost of 357 ammo has gotten stupid too, but still enough of a favorite and so practical for a revolver owner to make good platform. Times what they are you got a good deal on a very sweet looking piece. Bravo! I'm curious if it was new or used? There is a video or two out there where people have smoothed out the opening to the loading gate from the inside to solve the skin removal problem when pushing that last round in, but I don't trust my own gun smithing skills on that nice of a piece. Please do show the video of you removing that idiotic redundant safety that is so unnecessary for someone that knows how to use a lever gun with the half-cock hammer safety, and any tuning up you do to the action. Thanks. Hey Mokie!!!!!

I've owned two of the Rossi 92's. Both of mine were the rifle version with the 241/4 octagon barrel and featured the crescent buttplate on the stock. Mine were both chambered in .45 Colt. My first one was stainless steel and marked Navy Arms. This was an earlier model that didn't include the "Lawyer Safety" on the bolt My second one was produced under the Legacy Sports International label and featured color case hardened furniture. Both functioned flawlessly the early stainless model had an action that was fairly rough. These copies of the Winchester Model 1892 have an action that is damned strong and capable of handling pressures generated by such cartridges as the .454 Casull. Rossi offered them in this chambering. I ran some pretty hot loads through mine, loads I developed for hunting wild hogs in my model 92 rifles as well as for bear protection in my Ruger New Model Blackhawk.

Sweet, thanks for sharing. I bought a Rossi not too long after the Lady Smith came out. Both were 3” barrels 5 shot stainless revolvers. The Rossi would outshoot the S&W which surprised me. Both had fixed sights. It shot as good as any 4-5” barrel revolver I put it against. I can’t remember if it was Henry or Winchester that said 1 outta every 1,000 lever guns are exceptionally accurate. I hope you have the 1 that will outdo the 999. Be cool Rick.

I would not just sit there working the action. Where does the 5000 cycles number come from? I took my Rossi down, polished the bolt using a flat Norton stone. I worked a few areas that were rough and took some burrs off of the ejector slot and "ramp" to the chamber. Greased the action lightly with Mobil 1 red grease and Ballistol. My rifle is slick and smooth and loads with my pinky. I reduced the spring tension on the gate and removed the sharp edges on the gate and loading port with 600 paper and oil. And it has maybe 100 cycles on it and most of those were shooting.

That is a nice rifle and a good price. I have a Marlin 357 lever. I ran it 2000 times and it smoothed out quite nice. I do 10 at a time and keep track on an index card. I'll do it while I work (from home). Over a weekend or 3 days, it goes by quick. For the loading ramp, put a round in half way and leave it over night. It'll loosen up a little.

I have a Rossi 30-30 and like it. I did have to send it back and it took over a year to get it back so there's that for consideration. I've watched probably 100 videos on the 92 and found it has a little trouble cycling 38 spl due to the length of cartridge but you may have different results. Take it out, shoot and enjoy it. Video please!

I bought a new Henry .38/,357 through gunbroker, very nice quality gun, about the same price, but it has the removeable tubular magazine, I didn't like the finger-pinching side loading gate, you slide the tubular magazine forward, load 9 or 10 and lock it back down again, very nice Henry quality, had no problems at all and with the red dot optical on top. Gunbroker is a good way to go !!!

Very nice rifle, congratulations on finding one, very hard getting these lever actions from Rossi and Henry now a day's. When I purchased my 45 colt rifle two years ago, I had a choice between a Rossi and Henry, I ended up getting the Henry even though the Rossi was cheaper. The Rossi is lighter than the Henry Big Boy classic, so carrying it around is easier on you, but I like reflex red dot sights and is easy to install on a Henry because the Henry is side ejection. I also prefer tube loading over side loading gates, the Henry has both and the action on the Henry is buttery smooth right out of the box. In case anyone wants to ask why a I would get a 45 colt over a 44 magnum.....answer is versatility. You can shoot cowboy loads for target practice all day long, standard loads for small game hunting or +P for big and dangerous game that exceeds a 44 magnum and is in 45-70 territory.

That is one mighty fine lever action.as for what is better, that is a subjective question. I have a Rossi like yours, a Henry, and an old Marlin all chambered in .357. All three are excellent rifles and unique and different in ways that complement them. Funny thing is that until I watched your video, I realized that I shoot the Rossi much more than the other two. It is very accurate and so handy to take horse back or on the Side x side into the wilderness. I feel 100% confident that with my .357 Rossi and the revolver I carry in .357, I am prepared for anything that comes my way. I was lucky to enough to choose my Rossi at my local GS. They had just received about 12 of them (this was about 10 years ago) and I cycled them all to choose which one I wanted. Since day one mine has had a very smooth action, I have put over 1,000 rounds through it, so I"m sure that it has smoothed out even more. Get out there and shoot and enjoy your AWESOME rifle!!!

I have a new one and what I’m preparing to do is disassemble it and use scope lapping compound on the bearing surfaces, but not the rails, reassemble and work the action 100 times or so. The disassemble, clean, lube and reassemble. I’ve used this method before with success. The loading gate on mine seems stiff but ok for now. I really think the spring could be improved.

Hey Rick , you are deep into the break in process , but , Buy yourself some Clover valve grinding compound , it comes in different grits , take the gun apart and apply the compound on every wear surface , work the action until you wear out the compound , take it apart again , clean the surfaces with a cleaner , not oil , and then recoat the surfaces with the next less aggressive compound , work your way down to the finest compound , you'll have a mirror polished working surface and it will be smooth as glass . Does it take a long time ? Yes Is it messy and a pain to do ? Yes , But the results are worth the effort , I did a High Standard riot shot gun and a Remington 780 that way many years ago , I could load the chamber with one hand not using the pump arm , just inertia .

I really worried about buying a Rossi, because of the complaints people had. I've had mine for years now, and it's been great. I got a good one, it looks really well put together. Mine has a good trigger from the factory. It's been a great gun. When I load it, I don't push the rounds all the way in until the last one, like you showed. It's hard to add more if you push one all the way in.

I have 2 stainless Rossi R92s that I recently purchased, .357 and .454. The fit and finish are excellent, the action is smooth and functions as a 92 should. I will modify nothing until I have run several hundred rounds through both. I hand load for both. I have no problem with the bolt mounted safety. In a hunting situation, the weapon will be on full cock and the safety is very quiet to operate. These rifles are 100-150 yard affairs, so the quieter the better. When I unboxed each, the screws that attach the fore end and the stock were very loose. When I tightened them, the wood to metal fit was outstanding.

Right on Rick, you got a pretty good deal bro. I have the 16” blued version and paid nearly $800 for it last year, and then to top it off I had it sent over to Academy like a big dummy and they charged me $60 freakin bucks to “transfer” it even though I had Texas LTC made no difference. I usually pay $15 lol but the rifle is great once you tear it apart and clean/smooth it up some. Sometimes I wish I got the 20” version because the 16” looks so small lol

Hey Rick, I always wondered like also like with single action army guns where are these metals meet and you can see where they’ve scuffed up against one another. Could you advance that wear with a buffing tool on a Dremel. To get a smoother action?

yea but very easy, the longer it takes the better, if you go fast and take too much you can mess up gun

There's no Craftsmanship in fun building. My buddy purchased a 6.5 Creedmore Remington 700 bolt gun a few years back. IT WAS HORRIBLE. gritty, noisy sticky. I spent 2 hours on that gun with a Dremel and polish. I didn't take off the blue or whatever finish it was but it felt like pot metal. It was unbelievable how rough the action was. It loads like a decent gun now. Not sure how a manufacturer can send out something like that.

From a manufacturing stand point stainless steel is very hard on equipment. The higher the quality the higher manufacturing costs for wear and tear on cutting tools and dies. So like an overpriced Daniel Defense the great quality comes from the grade of steel and what’s its capable of withstanding. So the grade of stainless will certainly affect the cost of a rifle pretty quick. Disclaimer I have no idea what grade is used on guns. My experience is in 304 and 316. I would imagine heat and twist threading would be a must to know

You will want to start making your own reloads for this rifle. The 38 sp and 357 mag are fairly simple and fun to reload..... if you can find primers...!!
