Brandt-Daroff Exercise for Vertigo (BPPV): At-home treatment

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Brandt-Daroff exercise is the original at-home treatment for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). However, it's seen as being less effective as it may cause the crystals to move into the wrong places of the semicircular canal. The other maneuvers that are seen as more effect are listed below.

What is BPPV?
BPPV is a type of vertigo caused by small crystals of calcium moving in your inner ear (semicircular canals). These small crystals moving out of place can cause you to feel dizziness and like the world is spinning around you. As the name suggests, it is considered a benign condition caused by positional changes with your head.
Other common BPPV symptoms include:
A loss of balance
Nausea
Vomiting
Symptoms can be intermittent lasting for sometimes up to a minute. Do not continue with this maneuver if you progressively feel worse afterwords and check in with your healthcare provider if your symptoms remain the same. You may also feel nausea while performing this maneuver but that is normal.

Hi Nick, you may have something different than what this video is normally used for. If you'd like we could try and find someone in your area that might be able to take a look at you if you don't have someone already!

@@swampy1234 Then it is most likely BPPV in that case. We highly suggest you find someone who has uses video frenzels or VNG goggles to test and see what canal and part of the canal might be the issue.

@@Sdchironeurocalifornia thanks. Although I have no idea how to find such a specialist, I'm curious how such info would help with the treatment path? I thought it was just Epley, Sermont and maybe the somersault manoeuvres that are conducted?

@@Sdchironeurocalifornia also, irrespective of which canal these crystals might be in, can I expect things to sort themselves out over time without any intervention?
