Addressing another comment in the video, that bed step is not that big in the United States. For some reason they change it in Australia.

Someone has probably already mentioned these things, but the truck beeped, because you left the key fob in there and shut the door. Also, the side step on the truck "bed" as we call here in the US is a lot larger than the ones on these trucks in the US. When you opened the door on the model you reviewed, I could see that there was the GM sticker stating that it was made here in Michigan. My father worked for General Motors in Flint, Michigan his whole life. I've got a 2024 2500 HD and it was made in Canada right here next to Michigan. I'll be using it to haul a fifth wheel RV so I needed this instead of the 1500. Do you all even have 5th wheel RVs there in Australia? When you opened the door on the model you reviewed, I could see that there was the GM sticker stating that it was made here in Michigan. My father worked for General Motors in Flint, Michigan his whole life.

The seats can be lifted but yes the Ram and Ford are a bit better for forward vision and even seating but beyond that, I love the Chevy. If you want to lift then the other two are easier to do too but the Chevy without a big lift drives real good. PS: there is a gauge for the adblue but you gotta go thru the menu for it and the tank takes about 25lt. PPS: in tow mode the exhaust brake seems to work even better, no problems keeping things stable.

Ticked all the boxes for an emphatic…no ! , not at that price Nic , but everyone to their own mate. I could think of a myriad of vehicles here in Australia ,and $180k ? ,that would build an amazing tourer. Did you consider the Ford F series ? Anyway it was a nice “sidetrack” but can we get back to the build bro ? Kim. 😎👍🍻

Heated and cooled seats are amazing. The heating is great for long trips to allow your muscles to relax and stay limber on long stints. Nice looking rig. Massive bonnet, but the tech helps manage it. Great capacity if your planning for big dog towing and hauling. Interested to see if this join the family !

Hi guys I watched your vid on the new 2024 silverado .just thought I might let you in on something. You said you would put shocks on it ,in gmsv eyes that would be a modification and no warranty for the hole vehicle. I found this out on my 2023 as I fitted a bull bar, suspension, wheels UHF. Now they keep denying warranty. My accessories have nothing to do with the warranty issues .because of all my problems gmsv said I deserve a buy back .as soon as I mentioned accessories the buy back was cancelled. Even down to the dent in the roof damaged on delivery and noticed on pick up .apparently this is also my fault as I have fitted accessories .other buyers should be aware of this as most buyers would fit accessories. what really rubs salt in to injury is they sponsor a fully modified truck for Aussie destinations unkown .cheers Rob

Just replacing the tub with a tray and canopy, like Mitz or Norweld, will set you back $30k plus. Then, suspension wheels and tyres another $10k. Bull Bar, Tow Bar costs unknown. Putting 5 adults in with luggage will be close to gvm. As you mentioned, the next model up will need a licence upgrade to drive it. All depends on what you are going to use it for and whether you claim it all through a business.

They have a Allison branded transmission. The gearbox was designed and built by Ford and GM , Allison inspected it and put their name on it. I also agree, buyers should register it NB2. The trouble with the 1500 is that the have lifter failure issues.

Yes, AFM or displacement on demand just ruins the petrol version of the 1500’s. In the USA, many Chevy fans realize the 3L turbo diesel is the way to go. It’s actually a cheaper option than a 6.2 petrol and weighs nearly the same. The fuel economy is fabulous. The only issue is the payload on 1500’s here are merely 675kg. Sooo……what’s the answer🤷🏻‍♂️? I know my 209 is petrol and while it is a cracking engine and reliable, it’s also thirsty. The diesel 1500 will get nearly 60% better economy, although here, regular unleaded is less than diesel.

@@donrichter3523 the answer is don't buy one and buy 4 cars/utes of about 5-8 years old with low kms that add up to about over 100k. Don't pay full comp insurance on them just get third party. You could have 2 turbo diesel utes one a single cab 2wd for run about, then a 4x4 dual cab, an suv and then a sedan of some sort for fun. All can tow between 2 and 3.5t and some have payloads over a tonne. What I describe never seems to be the answer. It's either get one because ur one of the boys or don't get one says the greenie. There's never this third option which I describe here.

The problem is I've been saying this for ages and ages that the diesel is an option in the US. They don't really option the diesel if they aren't towing over 4.5t. GMSV have really stuffed up. They should have never got 1500s or 2500s with the diesel. Just the petrol 2500s. Perfect for out weights. The 2024 petrol comes with the 10 speed now and they didn't even bring it. I think the petrol is like 300kg lighter?

At 180K you wont take it off-road, it's too big. Certainly not for the High Country, I doubt most of the SA stations tracks would suit it either - so it really is restricted to touring on the black top. Therefore, you don't need a diff lock. Indeed, you don't need 4x4 to do that sort of driving. Are you really going to throw 25 to 30K on a tray and canopy? Means you are now at over 200K and still no front bar, rear bar, winch, suspension etc, etc. And then there is the payload issue. This is a very expensive vehicle for a limited application.

In North America where these are common, we don't use them for true off roading. The 4x4 and rear locker are mostly for getting out to hunting sites on muddy roads, towing trailers out of a parking lot with 2' of fresh snow, getting around a ranch or farm, etc. Too big and too expensive, even here where they are much cheaper, to truly take on trails

This vehicle is for a completely different use. If I could tow 4t and load 1.5t onto the back of the Patrol there would be no need for a big truck. I could spend 150k on setting up a 200 series thinking that will do both jobs but then find out that I'm still overweight and illegal at the end. Have an accident insurance won't pay out and then all of a sudden you have that investment worth absolutely nothing. Believe me mate, this is not a decision taken lightly. Do it right, do it once.

It's not the government. It's the heads and GM and Ram for example not bringing the right models. A single rear wheel 3500 is a better fit. A petrol one too. And the public and media not pushing back. Telling them they messed up and brough the wrong models.

  • @slatibaadfast

Weight limit overloading can be blamed solely on manufacturers. Look at the advertising. Every manufacturer and almost every Australian car reviewer when talking about towing claim 3.5 tonne. Never mentioning how bad GVM etc is. I've even asked reviewers, spruiking about towing to set up a van AND vehicle for 'the lap' for a family of 4 and all the shit said family would take. Then put the entire thing over the scales to witness how overweight the entire thing is. NOT one has responded. I argue that I had to train to get my Semi licence, learn how to load, handle and back a vehicle while a motorist who catches a bus to work every day can hook up a 3.5 tonne van to his 4cyl car and 'legally' disappear into the sunset. But manufacturers should be forced to tell the truth about loading rather than the bullshit they sprout every day.

Because none of the 4WDs you can buy in Australia do what these US pickups can do. To get this level of payload and towing, you would have to buy a truck like a Fuso or Isuzu, and you're sacrificing a LOT of comfort and power with that.
