Brain tumor patient plays guitar during awake craniotomy surgery
Brain tumor survivor Robert Alvarez and neurosurgeon Sujit Prabhu, M.D., explain why and how Robert played the guitar during his surgery for a grade II astrocytoma. It was the first time a brain tumor patient played a musical instrument during an awake craniotomy at MD Anderson.

This really hits home for me. It combines two of the most special things in my life. My Aunt was diagnosed with a brain tumor 23 years ago, and it was cancerous. She went through multiple surgeries, and I got to spend a wonderful 12 years of my life with her. She passed away in March of this year. But something that always sticks with me is how supportive she was. She showed me her guitar when I was seven, and she was the one who made me realize that this was it. Music was my passion. @@blwd this is a very rare comment to see
If I were a doctor, that'd be the most entertaining surgery of my life: hearing the patient sing and play guitar.
This technique is a great achievement of medical science..being in medical profession can truely relate to this..it not only helps to check whether the patient is all fine while the surgery as earlier when this process wasn't used some amount of post operative prblms arose..moreover it also makes the patient feel calm while the surgery through whatever act he or she while the ot..thanks to this channel fr bringing up this video so that ppl can see advancements in med sci n can b aware of it!
Robert seems like such a sweet guy. I’m glad the surgery went well, and I hope his career in music is successful!
Amazing!

1 word with many likes what a legend
Doctor: **pushes too hard on brain** Patient: “wHAT THE HELL AM I DOING HERE??? I DON’T BELONG HERE”
All of these people are incredible🙌🏻
We all have to realize not every hospital has the same expertise as others: The credit goes to MD Anderson Center, and the entire team of surgeons that helped this guitarist keep his musical focus. If truly the brain as they say: feels no pain during a surgery, then why can't more people naturally play the guitar? I think this neurosurgeon had the exact expertise to stay away from certain areas of the brain, what an amazing story.🙏🙏🙏💯👏👏👏
this surgery is gonna take a long time Patient- I wouldn't fret about it

The bravery that some people have to go into brain surgery awake just leaves me in awe.
Amazing, just amazing. It flowed, was painless, and full healing energy via music frequency. All the makings of alchemy. This is the bridge where modern medicine meets holistic/natural care.
The fact that he plays creep by radiohead🥺

This gentleman's miraculous talent amazes me!
Commendable commitment and great empathy shown by group of medicos...
My dad had the same type of surgery, they woke him up part way through it and asked him questions while they tried to remove his GBM so that if he could not answer anymore they knew they were getting to close to sections
