Once I'm done moving labs and getting my new machine shop set up, if you ever wanna collab, I'd love to make some rocket parts. Gonna be trying to get 3d metal printing working this year hopefully, so that could be fun. And once you're shooting stuff into space, would be awesome to build a little payload and do some science. Maybe a little gamma spectrometer and measure cosmic ray energy shift as the rocket climbs. See the spike in high energy comic rays/annhiliation as you get higher.

That journal thing is so important. It empties everything you’re thinking short term so you don’t forget or overstuff. This is very helpful to me. Just don’t write a schedule, whatever you’re thinking about, write it down with the “I thinks” and “so this and that” also included it helps piece things back together after looking at the journal a few hours or days later. And don’t be strict “get abc done by this time on this day” freedom is key. amazing quote by frank gehry, a famous architect: *“if you know where it’s going, it’s not worth doing.”*

@eyeborg3148
3 жыл бұрын
Well “enthuthiasm” only gets you so far - you do have to have some skill, especially when it’s a 2 man operation. You can’t be dead weight. That doesn’t mean you need to be an expert in rocket design though, for example maybe you’re really great with CAD and computer simulation, or you’re great at PCB and hardware/electronics design, or maybe you’re great on writing flight navigation software with lots of experience in robotics. Just be realistic with expectations and don’t think someone with no experience at all and only “enthuthiasm” is going to get any serious consideration. Use that enthuthiasm to learn some skill and then come back and apply.
@unrealreality.design
3 жыл бұрын
@@eyeborg3148 well I cant say i "only" have enthusiasm, because well I've been learning coding. Have some good experience with 3d softwares. And also I have launched a small model rocket of my own. So I do have some experience but I want to take it to next level. That's where enthusiasm to learn comes in.
@eyeborg3148
3 жыл бұрын
@@unrealreality.design good, those are all positive experiences. Certainly what you just said is a better way to present yourself - as someone with some basic experience AND enthuthiasm who wants to take it to the next level. Also it’s good to always have one or two concrete examples of projects you’ve done if anyone asks you about experience, even if they’re relatively simple. I certainly don’t mean to discourage you and I wish you good luck with this or elsewhere. Either way keep working on your skills as there is always more to learn.

Plant name recommendation : Laika (first dog in orbit)
I think I heard you mention “standing waivers” so I assume you know about model rocketry in SoCal, but in case I misunderstood: You need permits from local fire marshalls to launch here, and you need permission from the landowner. There are rocketry organizations that maintain permits, so it’s relatively easy for hobbyists to fly with them, but it’s harder on your own.
@andrewred323

I assume he does mean those places like the Friends of Amateur Rocketry and the Reaction Research Society. Because it is otherwise pretty annoying for launch permits because of the fire hazards.
