The announcers didn't even realize what they were watching lol. A 15 year old freshman walked down a national champion senior to run 1:47! That is INSANE I hope Cooper Lutkenhaus stays healthy and motivated because he is an otherworldly talent. Can't wait to see how he develops

It will be the last time announcers are so unaware and unexcited. This kid is as exciting to distance as Quincy Wilson is to the sprints, although Quincy also ran a 1:50 split haha

Right! He also runs like he has zero lactic acid haha. It’s such a shame the commentators had no clue what they just witnessed, and they were talking about Donovan Brazier more than they were talking about him haha.
Cooper Lutkenhaus is a generational talent. Everything I’ve seen of him have been crazy, and for only being a freshman and reaching this height at that young is wild.

@@DillPickle99 Yeah, I thought about that, but in his case, I think he's just uber talented. He ran 48 seconds for 400m in eighth grade, and it's hard to imagine him not getting faster and stronger as he continues to mature. I think the only thing that could hinder him is injuries.

Compare it to his Texas state meet. There, the announcers were fired up. The female one’s voice jumps an octave when he starts his kick. 😆
I wanted to call out Cooper's great tactics in that the first 200 he made sure he was not boxed in on the rail. He then followed the leaders thru windy conditions and set up his kick on the backstretch by again getting great position heading into the last 200. Great execution and effort!!!

I was watching the same thing. Didn't go out to fast. Most importantly, positioned himself on the line between lane 1 and 2 so he had maneuverability, yet was running to many extra meters. He learned from previous races. He's racing smarter now.
OMG. So clueless. Then justifying his win by his tactics rather than saying "we are witnessing something unprecedented". And maybe, "This kid has loads of talent."
My biggest flex is being able to say that I went to the same hs as Cooper Lutkenhaus. I remember him training with our xc team when he was in 8th grade and he was absolutely cooking everyone
I saw this race in person, absolutely amazing!!!

@@MaxMelton-fd3jg lol? I’m just saying that when people put insane expectations on young runners it can very easily mess with their passion as they inevitably fail to live up to some of those expectations. I ran 1:50.2 in HS pre super spikes, I’m happy to see high schoolers run faster than I did.. not everyone is miserable like you
Cooper is a special talent. He had a fantastic tactical sense. He understands exactly when he needs to position himself to be able to unleash that monster finish. He was .03 off the meet record which is held by the AR holder, but he ran it when he was a senior. Believe it or not, he is .08 off the world age 15 record which is held by a Brit who has run 1:43. If he stays patient and healthy he will be a real contender for the national team in a few years.
Michael Granville is paying attention!
Very windy--that was fun hitting that there wall of wind wherever that might be----- I have always considered the 800/1/2 mile was the Greatest SPRINT--not the Mile

the 800 now appears to be a sprint.
@brianmcewen3082
Ай бұрын
No, a 1:48 800m is 27secs per 200m. That may be sprinting for you, but these guys could run 22.X in the 200m. Also, the 800m record of 1:46.45 is from 1996. Kersh ran 1:46 in the '80s, and West ran 1:47 in the '70s. So, the 800m has been this fast for 50 years.
@zk4761
Ай бұрын
@@brianmcewen3082 In the next 3 years he should improve by a couple more seconds. He might be a Ben Pattison type of phenom or even more. If he stays healthy. Apparently he does low volume training and run 22 - 200m and 47 - 400m. With that kind of speed (Coe like) and time to build up a base, he could be very special.

@@runnerspace No, 1:44 is 52 per 400m. That would not be sprinting speed for them. Every speed is sprint-speed for someone slow enough. But the 800 is not a sprint.

Here’s a little English lesson for you: “wow” indicates awe at the fact he is so physically developed for a freshman. “Gifted” implies he was put on this earth to run.
