Next time a man (or woman) claims how “out of control” he gets and how it’s not really his fault cuz he’s upset, remember how calm this guy is. He’s describing how he waited to wake her up. He did everything 100% deliberately. He was in control the entire time.

Occasionally borrowing it bc it's closer, sure. But you're not casually opening my phone and browsing through it, nope no way. Nothing to hide but nothing to see either!

There's a very specific reason why officers repeatedly ask about her being strangled. This is because in ALL available data on DV, strangulation is routinely known to be a pre cursor to murder, particularly in female victims that is widely recognised among threat assessors /DV specialists worldwide to be a behaviour regularly reported by DV victims who were subsequently killed by their abusive partner. And as such, it's crucial for officers to document this in an effort that extra resources may be offered to prevent a possible murder victim in the future.

My feeling is that the very FIRST time either verbal, or God forbid physical abuse, occurs, irrespective of who is at fault, it’s time to separate and terminate the relationship. Abusive behavior is typically repetitive. Filing charges and sticking to them is the only way to try and stay safe. IMO, similar to never believing an addict, never trust an abuser. They may apologize (and even believe they mean it); however, up and until they ask for and receive help for the underlying causes for their behavior, a pattern of behavior develops and it generally ends very badly.

I worked with this guy. They dropped the charges shortly after she went to the DA and admitted she lied about most of it. Her step-dad (blurred in the video on his phone) told her to lie. Not sure why…but when I talked to him about it, he was as honest as he appears in this video about it. That he did lose his cool and cut open the stuffed animal, but he specified he did it because he knew how special it was to her and to signify how hurt he was. He should’ve never talked to them without a lawyer, but he never strangled her. It even says in the affidavit that there were no injuries/marks/bruises on her, so I’m not even sure why he was charged with domestic battery in the first place Quiet guy, and a bit weird but he was always nice to me and willing to help no matter the circumstances

@@JasonWatts-n1x wow, that's terrible if it's true she lied. I definitely don't condone that at all. I hope she learns a lesson from this and him too.

The victim was being evasive initially, and I personally think it's because she didn’t want the officers to know she was cheating. It would have been helpful if someone had explained to her that creating may be morally reprehensible, but it's not illegal - assault is. The way she asked, "Did he... say anything...?" makes me wonder if she was experiencing shame, feeling like it was her doing that he assaulted her, worried he would rat her out to the cops (which of course he immediately did). But it seems both the victim and her offender were under the impression that her cheating was an extenuating circumstance that makes his crime less heinous. Nope. Not under the law - hope they both get that point clear.

I’ve spent a long time working on the legal side of DV and I can confidently say that this is very common. I can’t even begin to tell you the countless hours I’ve spent watching police hold the hand of abusers (both literally and metaphorically) after being arrested for DV. Sometimes it’s a tactic to get more information out of a suspect and sometimes they genuinely have sympathy for/relate to the abuser.

I finally told him to go ahead and hit me with whatever he had handy, but to make sure I stayed down. I didn’t stick around, he wasn’t going to change.
