@hc3021 This is mostly wrong, in that most abusers still start to show warning signs far earlier than marriage, but people blinded by infatuation and unable to see things for what they are just ignore the signs. Most people in the honeymoon and pre-honeymoon phase are totally blind to the warning signs and red flags. Even when their friends point them out, they go totally ignored. I have seen it first hand MANY times, including with my own sister. I try to tell people, they ignore me and carry on, then wonder why I don’t want to listen to their whining years later when they’re miserable.

Sometimes anger is a first sign of dementia. Honestly people, if someone doesn’t Want to be with you, show them the door. Life is too short to be full of anger and hate. Move on.

My mom behaved exactly like this when I was a kid, all day every day, any time she didn’t get her way or everyone else’s world didn’t revolve around her. Vacillating between abusive rage and violence and tearful pity. Anger and rage release a surge of endorphins, and I genuinely believe these people’s brains become addicted to that, making them high in a way. I think they get to a point where they truly cannot control themselves any longer. My sister and I used to call it Spoiled Brat Syndrome. I have a theory about this. He is a superhero for finally leaving her. That's incredible. She's got a personality disorder that would have doubled in intensity every decade.
