    You make a very good point in the first minute of the video that really resonated with me, it's all about focus. This really goes for everything in life, martial arts, education, relationships, you name it. It's not something your teacher or coach can just give you, it has to come from within. Are you really focused on learning when you're at practice, or is your mind drifting off somewhere else? You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Great content coach, keep it up.

    Focus is great. That's why I don't like people talking to me at the gym too much. Makes me angry even. They don't understand some people like to focus hard. Bro....I be feeling like I'm the only one there just jabbing. Love it! Hope you enjoy your focus!

    That statement you made, that learning happens overnight, is POWERFUL and physiologically accurate. Even if we don't feel we're improving right away, it's important that we stay paying attention so that when the stars line up the information clicks for us. It's important not to get frustrated and let that stop us from learning.

    For sure. Sometime you're on a plateau for months or more when nothing is changing or improving. Then one day you're suddenly 30% better and all that prep work on the plateau was there for a reason while your brain and body were figuring things out.

    This is a drill I do a lot with people who train with me. But seeing two pros like you and Nate perform it, I can always get something more out of it. The one thing I'll tell my partners to do is: you're not just feeding punches; this is also a time for you to focus on throwing yours correctly, while I focus on blocking. Or vice versa when we switch roles. That way the one throwing the punches doesn't feel like they're wasting their time. They can focus on their footwork, their chin, their guard, etc. Nate did a perfect job being a realistic opponent for you. You guys are great!

    This works great for people that shut their eyes. It also works well to develop an awareness of how to change backing up to working an angle. I used to "Slip right into a punch" more often. This drill makes it less painful when I'm with a few of my sparring partners.

    Some simple techniques in there 👍🏻. The all round movement is where anyone wanting learn needs to be, so as you showed, good boxing stance, subtle head mvt, hands high to parry (and not reaching, but touching their glove only), slipping and rolling and fundamental to it all, footwork. Just keep them moving whist doing the rest, and relax. Novices should shadow as much as possible outside of the gym sessions. Good video.

  • @drjonesey5

    Well yeah, it teaches you to slip punches which is valuable for both boxers and in situations where you may have to do self defense. Getting comfortable punching at someone and getting punched at is a thing the average person doesn't think about. Some people go their whole life never having to fight so assume they'll just punch a guy hahaha when angry one day and knock them out which is why the average person either A-throws a ridiculous weak punch B-Head hunts trying to punch heads all day and miss when angry C-Throws haymakers, overhand rights and wild punches in fights. You literally can jab the average person down without issue if you know how to fight. Learn Boxing and some Wrestling or Jujitsu and you're good. Can subdue people properly and evade punches while dishing them out if you need to.

  • @TheQuarterbackX
    @TheQuarterbackX4 жыл бұрын

    It's a pretty simple and great approach. Just simply practice, practice, and practice. Having someone work with you in them punching and you trying out your defence and different approaches. The hard part for most is finding someone that will be your drill partner. Unless,they know someone with the same interist around them, and sees the genious in this approach.

    Good tips, goog long reach partner. One thing, I do different : I include single shots on my (defending)side, whenever the partner gets close BEFORE punching. Otherwise, there is an unrealistic distance, that one shouldn't allow in real sparring. On the other hand ( pun not intended ), it teaches me to keep "closed" after my attack.
