Bowtech SS34 Bow Review & Speed Test | Comfort vs Performance

Спорт

The new Bowtech SS34 provides a shooting experience like no other. With 2 different draw cycle options, either comfort or performance this bow can be set up to accommodate someone looking for a more forgiving smooth draw cycle or when put on performance a more aggressive draw cycle increasing speed. In this video we shoot the SS34 at 28” and 31” draw lengths with 3 different arrows to see what kinds of speeds it is producing on both comfort and performance settings. We also give you our thoughts and first impressions on the over feel and shooting experience. Check it out!

    Thanks for shooting this at 31". I always have to assume what results would be at my draw length and many times once you actually get to test a bow it's not what you expect to happen. This SS34 is easily the smoothest bow I've ever shot, I feel like with performance mod setting this would be a great "do anything " hunting/3d bow

    I have a LabRadar that I purchased for my rifles, just got into bows. I purchased the bow trigger adapter which is not needed but makes it a little more accurate. Only really need to set it up for archery mode and if you are using Doppler or the trigger. As far as inputting weight, that is so it can calculate KE at various distances that you select. You do not have to input any fps (no setting for it either). One draw back is you need a minimum of 20 yards from the LabRadar to your target if not it has a hard time tracking projectiles.

    It's so smooth, I turned it up a 3 lbs. and it still feels like a lighter poundage bow overall. Then it shoots faster than my V3X 33 and that is on comfort setting.

    The only reason to input the weight of the projectile for firearms, is to be able to provide the downrange velocities, doesn't have any effect on "at machine" calculations

    I know a lady that shoots 610 grain arrows with a single bevel up front, at 47 pounds and 24 inches. Her arrows sizzle along at a whopping 149 fps. She doesn't mind showing off the Elk and wild hogs she has shot clear through out to 50 yards. She has been told quite a few times you shouldn't try to hunt anything unless you are shooting 320fps.... She doesn't seem to really care. Their are natives shooting self made long bows and 4000 grain arrows, they don't go hungry very often lol

    It’s funny you mentioned that about 80lbs. I went back to my 70 lbs. Solution SD because pulling 80lbs in the northeast during December and January isn’t fun. But I also shoot a Revolt X with 60 lbs limbs maxed out set on performance as my 3d and backup hunting bow. I’m curious with the same arrow set up and the same bow but two of them one set up at 70 lbs on comfort and the other with 60lbs limbs maxed out on performance what the FPS difference would be.

    This bow has serving separation issues. After you fire about 100 arrows, the cams eat up those cheap strings they put on it. I love Bowtech, but this is the proverbial rose that's loaded with thorns. No dealer wants to talk about it. Get yourself an Athens Vista 35. You'll be much happier! Beautiful balance, no jump at full draw, excellent fit and finish, and GAS bow strings.

    The original Solution SS is only 30 inch ATA and feels amazing. Very dead in hand, quiet, and draws like a recurve. Same speed as the SS34. I can't argue with the SS cams. If you think the extra 4 inches won't be a problem up in the tree, the SS34 is what I would get.

    Could have been a really nice bow if it wasn’t so slow. Should have had a 6”-6.25” brace height. That’s all that’s needed on modern bows and you get great performance and excellent shootability from that length.

  • @HuWhiteNat

    @HuWhiteNat

    @@Cooldibs I don’t think one sided at all. I shoot 50# with a 31.5” draw length. My arrows are usually mid 400’s for total weight. All of my recent bows over the last five years have shot in the 260 - 270 fps range. I’ve never purchased any modern compound based of advertised speed. Why? Because they all make sufficient speed to blow through a whitetail deer. Smooth draw cycle, repeatable grip and forgiving geometry all come before speed for me.

  • @Cooldibs

    @Cooldibs

    8 ай бұрын

    @@HuWhiteNat same for me, but to say speed isn’t important isn’t true. For people that hunt deer in a tree stand, they’re aren’t shooting shots off at 50 60 70 yards. Speed definitely matters at those distances for those spot and stock hunts for large game. But I agree, for Whitetail, where you ain’t really shooting past 40 yards, speed isn’t as important

  • @HuWhiteNat

    @HuWhiteNat

    8 ай бұрын

    @@Cooldibs My initial comment was regarding these longer smoother platforms that are increasingly popular with archers. Not only that but guys are going down to 60 or even 50 pounds. To me, this is a positive trend. For a long time people were chasing speed. This was achieved by super light arrows and radical geometry at the expense of accuracy, momentum and forgiveness. With my draw length, I’m getting all the speed I need. If I had a 27.5” draw length, I’m sure I’d have a different outlook.

    Question guys, why doesn’t anyone ever talk about accuracy on bow reviews??

  • @thomasstanworth

    @thomasstanworth

    Жыл бұрын

    Because it's impossible to comment on objectively. 99% of the accuracy difference between high end bows is nothing to do with the 'accuracy of the bow' - they're all insanely accurate when properly set up for the archer using them. It is due to how perfectly the draw length suits you, followed by let off and a few other subjective things. When comparing bows of the shelf at, say, the 28" setting for an archer who tends to shoot 28", one bow may come in at 27.75" and another at 28.5". There is going to be a big difference in shootability simply down to this difference in draw length. The same goes for hold. There is a lot of nonsense talked about hold, with people comparing bows that are not even at their draw length and bear in mind that draw length and ideal loop length will cary depending on ATA. So all in all, it's best to ignore any talk about accuracy and hold because once you have a bow in your hand, the accuracy you're going to get out of it has much more to do with how well you set the bow up for you and how far you go doing this than anything to do with the bow itself. For a target archer, this can take months of tweaking and many hunters perhaps don't go far enough getting their bows *right* for them. Its just pot luck where the stock settings on the mods leave the DL. Stock settings on mods means 1/4" differences in DL at best, but when you start working with string and cables, this is where an 'OK shooter' can become 'insanely good'.
