Bowed basement walls, I beam install

In this video I go through the steps of installing beams on a bowed block basement wall. First, I found the location that the beams needed to be installed. Next, I removed the cement at the new beam location and install blocking support to the existing floor joist. Last, I install the new I beam then use a screw jack to apply tension to the beam to help support the basement wall. Future videos will show how I dig up the dirt next to the foundation, push the wall back into place and seal the wall from the outside to prevent water penetration.

    EthanAllen1775 Yes I do. I like to apply pressure with the screw jack. Once I feel all movement is done. I install a piece of metal between the concrete slab and the beam. Cement in the bottom of the beam. Then I fill the gap behind the beam with mortar mix to prevent future movement of the blocks not touching the beam.

    I have a drain system installed around the perimeter of my basement that leads to a sump, when installing the I beams could I just leave the drain pipe in place and just work around it? I saw that you cut a type of tile system in this video but I was wondering what you did after that!

  • @handylandlord

    @handylandlord

    3 жыл бұрын

    Jacob Huey yes you should be able to work around the system you have in place as long as there is enough room between the wall and pipe for your beam. Normally, the top of the drain pipe Is flush with the top of the footer. In that case your beam install would be easy. The drain pipe would not get in the way. My situation is a little different the system you saw me cut out was on top of the old clay tile system. I’m planning to install new drain pipe over to the sump pump. I was mostly worried about getting the wall supported before if got any worse. Thanks for watching. I will post more about this basement in the future.

    My cinder blick wall is pushed in by 4 inches at the bottom. The bottom course is still in it’s place as it’s up against the cement floor. Do you think we can use this system to push the wall back that far? Soil will be dug out and we’ll place temporary supports to raise joints by a 1/4 inch over head.

  • @handylandlord

    @handylandlord

    4 жыл бұрын

    Definitely you can use this method to push the wall back into place. You may have to push the wall back then reposition the beam and or the jack. I would make sure to support the cinder block wall before digging outside. These screw jacks are the best method I have found to put tension on the beam to push the wall back into place. Just go slow and try to push the wall evenly. Good luck on your project. Keep us updated on how it goes. amzn.to/305NbKU

I would support the wall before digging with any machinery. I'm not sure I would take on this project alone if you decide to give it a go. I do feel you are on the right path with excavating the exterior and sealing the wall. Tosik Dwane Permits depend on where you live. But more than likely yes. For the water meter. I normally open the hole around the pipe coming through the block on both sides to give the wall room to move around the pipe without messing up the pipe coming through the block. First thing is to check to make sure your beam will fit in between the floor joist and the block wall. I cut blocking to go in between the floor joist at least 3 joist spaces back. Also I add a block between the first floor joist and the beam. Then, I glue and lag bold a 2x8 to the bottom of the floor joist screwing into the joist and the blocking that was just added. Install the screw jack and apply pressure like in the video. Hope this helps.
