    Now I toggle to tone mode. I have tone mode set for a low tone for Nickels and then start in all metals. When I get a target I switch to tone. The tone or lack of tone gives me an idea what the target is. I never thought of toggling to discriminate though, good info!

    Tip: Pull tabs (Aluminum) from drink cans (from back in the 1970s) and GOLD Rings give the SAME tone when using the TONE mode on your metal detector. Bottom line is, you don't know what it is until you dig it up. 🤪. But remember, it's a hobby, not likely you will make a living at it. So just go have Fun with it. Good Luck. .

    Does discrimination work in tone mode? If so when you toggle out of All metal you would get a low or high tone and you could have your discrimination set lower to include nickels and gold.

  • @AmericanDetection

    @AmericanDetection

    Yes, essentially you can use tone or disc to toggle.

    Whats the best way to detect a 18k gold ring using a method like this? Also is it bad that I only get like a 3 inch range on my test gold necklace? Its not that bulky but I would imagine I'd get more range then that

  • @AmericanDetection

    @AmericanDetection

    Жыл бұрын

    Gold necklaces are hard to hit with any metal detector, there just isn't a lot of metal in a necklace. So 3 inches is pretty good. You'll do better on gold rings, as there is more metal. To use toggling for gold, set your disc lvl lower to accept gold. Good luck!

    Also on a penny I feel like I only get about a 6 inch range max sensitivity. Could it be a bad head or brain box? I did multiple sets of batteries that all tested good

    It depends on your soil mineralization. 6-8 inches on a coin is in the typical range though if the TKIV.

    I've got the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and have tried to find a property marker (rebar) using some similar method but have no luck. What would you recommend trying to find this large piece of rebar? I would think it should be easy....Thanks! PS Great Videos!

    I would like to hear the answer for this. I'm considering buying just for locating my property lines via the rebar the surveyor left. I want to make sure I locate my fence accurately.

    @@mikeg9450 I can tell you that I found 2 of my property markers with no issues. I still cannot locate the other 2. Not sure if there is actual rebar at these locations. This metal detector worked great. It is also very easy to use. I would recommend....

    Russ what state are you in. I'm new to metal detecting. I'm in San Angelo Texas Tom Green County I called our state park and no metal detecting is allowed at neither of our 3 lakes. Nor at our many city parks . What do you suggests. I want to be in compliance with rules and regulations.

  • @AmericanDetection

    Hello Samuel- Most state parks are off-limits. I would call your local police department and sherif department to see if metal detecting is allowed. I live in Texas and in my city and county metal detecting in all of our parks is allowed. I have emails from both the sherif and chief of police stating it is allowed. I keep those accessible on my phone to show any law enforcement or park employees who question my right to metal detect at any of the parks. Just be sure to dig a proper plug and cause as little damage as possible and fill in your holes after every dig. Good luck!

    Hello I'm thinking of starting out. Why is metal detecting prohibited in those areas? Wondering why they would care? Watching your videos and trying to educate myself

    You would have to set your disc. A bit lower between 12 and one positions on the disc. control.

    If you’re going to switch it over over to discrimination mode anyway to decide if you’re going to dig it why even use all metal in the first place? Just leave it in discrimination mode. if it was in all metal mode and went deeper then you move it to discrimination mode and it disappears because it can’t reach it anymore. Would you even know the difference?

  • @matthewseipel4929

    What is the point of starting in all metal if you are just going to pass on the target if it doesn't tone in discriminate? Why not just start in discriminate and ignore the target that you're going to ignore anyway

  • @AmericanDetection

    @AmericanDetection

    All metal mode is the deepest mode. So if you want to make sure you reach as deep as possible you hunt in all metal mode. You can and I do hunt in tone and or disc mode. It's just another option for those who want options.

    ALL-METAL mode is the deepest mode. So if you want the deepest possible detection capabilities you hunt in all-metal mode and switch over to Disc to quickly check the target ID.
