    Great stuff. I've done the Kruger Challenge with you in previous years. You ARE SO RIGHT in not putting the net in the water too early!!! There is no point in doing so as it will likely freak the fish out AND no way you can net it after that with water resistance. Tire the fish out and wait!!!! Excellent net work!!!

    Awesome video! Well captured - including video, stills, just the right amount of music, and voice. My group is getting older and we aren't quite as agile as you guys but we are still hoping to go this year...we get a tow from Seagull Outfitters up to Red Rock bay, then through Red Rock, Alpine, Jasper, Kingfisher,and then base camp on Ogishkemunice for a week. We go the last week of August and usually nail the Walleye.

    Hey Tony. Love all your BWCA videos. (I'm a subscriber) I have never been, but a buddy and I are planning to go this 2019 summer. I have done a ton of research, but cant decide on an entry point. Wondering if you could point us in a good direction. We are thinking 5 or 6 night trip. We are pretty able bodied and could handle a fairly tough trip. Good fishing and secluded is what we are looking for. We have done similar trips to the U.P. and Canada. BWCA is calling! Also what time of year is best! Thanks man and keep the videos coming! They are awesome!

    Luke Chomic Hi Luke, I’m glad you like the videos and you’re going to love it in the BWCA! So, if you’re looking for good fishing and solitude (which is why 90% of people come to the BW), you’re at the right place. I’m going to make two assumptions, 1- you want to stay away from motorized areas and 2- you don’t mind some portages (I’ve found the quickest way to find solitude is one or two long and/or difficult portages) and you’ll be off the beaten path. I would look at Mudro Lake (Entry Point 22/23) as there are many loops to do from here with great walleye fishing and a good combo of lakes and rivers. Another good choice would be Little Indian Sioux River North (Entry Point 14). Both of these routes have lots of options and many species of fish. Here you can fish big water lakes or smaller intimate lakes and there are native pictographs near by. Let me know if you have other questions.

    @@gopheradventure9652Thanks for responding. I had mudro in mind (because I like the loop idea) but I will check out EP 14. Definitely dont want to be in motorized area. Looking for walleye eaters and smallies and BIG Northerns! What is the best time of year to go? Bug season? I was thinking August. Best Outfitter to use for just Canoe (we have all the gear) and maybe transport? Sorry about all the questions...Just pumped to go!

  • @gopheradventure9652

    @gopheradventure9652

    Luke Chomic Most people think June is peak walleye action, but that’s just when they’re shallow and easier to find. In August, the walleyes will be there and hungry, they’ll just be deeper, in the 20 feet deep or deeper areas. Dusk is best time for walleyes, pike and smallies will be abundant and you may catch a big one if you bring big lures. I caught a monster pike on the Basswood River a few years back. I can’t speak too much to outfitters as I have my own gear and canoes, but I’ve used Voyageur North Outfitters for permits and bait and I’ve always been happy. I rarely hear bad things about any BW outfitters though so I’d go with whomever has the canoe you want. Have fun planning, that’s almost as fun as going on the trip itself...almost.

  • @gopheradventure9652

    @gopheradventure9652

    4 жыл бұрын

    Reese, we didn’t bring minnows, we brought leeches. They’re way easier to keep alive. Keeping minnows alive in the Boundary Waters can be challenging, but doable. You just have to give them a drink quite often and it helps (especially in a July and August) to sink them into the deepest water you can find at night.

    That’s a Snow Peak Giga Stove. Works like a charm. I’ve had that thing for over five years now and use it a lot. I’ve had to replace one of the rubber washers where the stove connects to the fuel tank and that’s about it. I emailed Snow Peak about it and they sent me two replacement washers free. Awesome customer service.

    TheHawk213 TheHawk213 That’s a Cooke Custom Sewing 1.1 oz 10 x 14 ft tarp with a ridgeline set up. Slides right back into its stuff sack while still hanging from the trees so no dragging it around. It’s super light, but as strong as can be. I’ve had 40 mph winds slapping that tarp and it performed admirably. They’re not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

    I usually get my maps from REI, Midwest Mountaineering, or any of the outfitters in Ely or Grand Marais. You can buy McKenzie and Fisher maps online as well. I personally prefer Voyageur maps, but they are hard to find. On this trip we used exclusively McKenzie maps.
