Jack Linde .. okay? I was just expressing that it's odd to phrase the sentence to talk about how often OP has heard the song in the past 20 years, when it has only existed in 12 of those 20 years.
Green Day wrote a good song...but Maiya Sykes transformed it to sheer greatness. Easily the most soulful thing I have ever heard.

+TheUltimateCatLady Maiya has such a talent to input emotions into the song! Have you heard her sing this!? kzread.info/dash/bejne/hWGnl7F8mqi5gLQ.html
Her technique is amazing. When you use that much vibrato, it's hard to make every note so clear. I love her voice, her emotion, the way her presence dominates the space. Maiya Sykes is perfection.

If the title hadn't said that this was a Green Day cover, I would have assumed this was an old jazz standard I hadn't heard of. The spectacular singing and arrangement make this an exquisite interpretation of the lyrics. This is truly art at its finest.
1:56 the drummers face in the few seconds as she hits that perfect emotional note - PERFECT!!!
This made me break out into tears. Her voice is so undeniably gorgeous. It's strong yet soft and gentle, it pounds in your heart like an unforgiving drum and then soothes you with its floating smoothness. It's so many things I can't even describe. It is people with talent like her who make me so damn glad to live in a world where music like this exists. Needless to say, this is definitely my favorite PMJ cover to date, with "Seven Nation Army" covered by Haley Reinhart in close second. So happy to hear a voice like this ❤️
in the past 12 hours or so I listened to all the songs in the postmodern jukebox playlist (~95). all the songs are anywhere between A+ and A+++. all but one. this one. this one is like Gödel's theory of incompleteness, way past the genius point into a different universe…

Her style is definitely unique. Her timing and pacing keeps you guessing and actually keeps you interested because she doesn't usually go where you think she is going to. It is actually uncomfortable in some parts because it is so unpredictable.

I felt like this a few months ago. Everything felt broken, life felt broken. I'm glad that's behind me now. Now and then I feel a similar pain but never as bad as those days. Things are better now, I'm proud of myself for overcoming that, I didn't think I could but here I am today. To anyone out there who might be reading this, even though I know very few people will see this, if you're feeling bad, don't worry, look on the bright side, and get help from your family and friends.

Beautiful.. Maiya is obviously SINGING FROM EXPERIENCE. She is feeling this song taking us back with her, walking. She has tapped into the true emotion of the song.. felt the depth of loneliness, with insecurity lagging behind and the distant hope, of one day, finding peace.
Maiya Sykes has made absolutely THE best cover of this song. I love you Maiya!!!!!! 😍🥰🙏💜
Wow. I'd started watching for the novelty of a different arrangement -- and soon got blown away by her. Terrific!
Along with her powerful voice, Maika threw some real emotion into this and the made this song so much better

Thought provoking. A beautifully mournful moment of courage. This woman's great voice was made for that song. I had read that she nailed this on the first take. Why would you ever want to add anything to this? Maiya, you sing such sweet melodies to my soul. You are such a gift.
This proves Greenday songs are incredibly timeless and emotional, brilliant.

That would be a WOW !
I see man as he steps out of his apartment, his beard showing a three day growth. He pauses as he checks both ways, making sure the street is clear as he makes his way across, ever so present of the background noise the city can not help but release, a few cars quickly scatter by. The pavement is wet as he steps up to the curb on the other side, pauses and lights a cigarette. He adjusts his trench coat, pulls up the collar and quickly tucks his hands into the pockets as he heads toward the park. His image fades as the grey, rainy, overcast day engulfs him and he disappears into this world.
This literally hit me so hard! Like dayum hun, work them pipes!
Maiya, your vocals transfer the emotion of the song like an arrow.
I'm speechless. I don't even know where to start typing. Phenomenal.
Love how she lightly but accurately hits those high notes. Beautiful voice EDIT: watched till the very end AND MAAAAAAAAAAN THOSE MELISMAS CAN KILL A MAN SO GOOD
whoa. get this woman to come back.
this style fits for the lyrics, well done!
Actually, if you manage to take your eyes off of Maiya, look at the guy at the drums. Every time she hits a long and/or high note, he just smiles and shakes his head, not believing what he hears. He looks so sweet. :) Imagine to hear that live, that close, and be able to play this song with her.

I love this sing, always have. She sung it like it was supposed to sound. She gets it.
Her voice just melted me into a puddle of tears and emotions. Touching.
This is why I love PMJ... They can take songs like this (one of my favorites) and just give it an entirely new personality and meaning. Her interpretation of this is just so many levels of amazing.
