Bouldering: Life On The Rocks | 101 Subway | Unique Stories From India
Ойын-сауық
A new extreme sport is climbing to the top in India.
Some guys climb mountains. Some just climb rocks. Big f*cking rocks. Meet Sandeep, Adarsh and Jerry, three young climbers who are at the forefront of this new extreme sport in India. Follow them as they retrace the steps of their hero, Pil Lockey, who first started to explore the region around Chhatru, Himachal Pradesh. Their goal is to promote the sport and explore new regions and climbing routes in the Himalayas, and in other places around the country.
Bouldering is the fastest growing segment of the climbing community. The goal is simple; make it to the top of a boulder without letting your feet touch the ground. In August 2017, the sport was officially included in the 2020 Olympic Games.
Sandeep and Adarsh have represented India at Bouldering World Cups. Adarsh is the current national champion, and Sandeep is a silver medalist in the nationals.

I am an old guy who once crossed the Sara Umga pass from the Tos nala to the Chota Shigri and then camped for a few days at Chatru in Sept 1985. I am really happy that young Indian rock climbers are striking out in different directions and the standards are rising rapidly, thanks in part to two World Cups having been held in Mumbai recently. The next level would be for Indian climbers to tackle serious technical routes on the Himalayan peaks between 5000 to 6000 meters high in the lightweight self supported fashion that the top alpine climbers in the world are doing.... only then will we be able to say that Indian mountaineering has come of age!

Mountain climbing is mostly about mind over matter. Having said that, it is a great advantage to be physically strong and have lots of stamina, both mental and physical. You are young and have time on your side. Work on your physical fitness and go to the mountains as often as you can. There are many courses available in India where you can learn the basics of rock climbing, mountaineering, sport climbing etc. Once you have the basics, there is no substitute for practice, practice, practice!
I came to know about this video from its director Pranav Jain whom I met yesterday in the climbing gym yesterday here at Matunga, Mumbai. Very nicely made video! I hope it motivates more people to take up these sports and find economics to support this! Rise India Rise! :)
I amaze to see such video I am kind of shocked that such things are also there in India too but the only encouragement required for all this Good job 101 India
Thanks 101 India for making such videos. None of the big media houses are showcasing these talents and beauty of India!
only 5000 views what a shame a hardworking channel like this deserve more plus a lot of it in english so that outsiders like me who want to visit can understand and have an in depth look at india from indians

That's a good life, these guys are living. This sport looks doable at first glance but seems like my confidence won't match up for the determination it requires.

+Ashish anand I apologize for being presumptuous. well currently they dont have sponsors.Hence the movie.Did you know there are bouldering world cups. Two of them hapenned in mumbai. Also the indoor discipline have been added to the 2020 olympics.Lot of companies who do outdoor apparel, travel and adventure should be interested. That being said this sport is extremely popular all around the world.
Sorry dude but i just cant understand this sport... i understand d risks they take n their passion .. respect .. but i just cant understand the pump of climbing a rock .. just an opinion though....
