Boston must not have very many companies on an alarm, around here that would just be a 2 or 3 alarm fire. We send a lot of companies on an assignment though. I don't know why FD's still order ladders without waterways though.

I walked by there a few hours ago and I got the impression that its really one building across the front of that short block and the whole thing shares the air gap between the ceiling of the upper floor and the roof surface and the fire burned all through that space. I am guessing they were built no later than the 1929 market crash like everything else here in Boston except the projects. I'm pretty sure that's how it worked here.

far from it. These buildings were not built to burn, they were built to last. The old, tough wooden construction makes firefighting in Boston difficult, especially when they are so narrow.

Brickford City Fire I said it looked in good condition and they were built well but when they have a fire it most likely is a bad one. A fire in a wood building is always a bad thing. Probably the lightweight construction of today is worse today than when that building was constructed and will burn even faster. That was a hard fire to fight.

Okay this might piss some off! But there some things that do not fly with any other type of business, company or service. That the fire departments do that just make no rime or reason. Unless it is to promote their identity! #1 After on seen, they leave all lights on. Not needed. 2 they put on their PPE air respirators, turn them on. Then let them run out of air so the alarms go off. And never turn off so the alarms continue, blaring. Not necessary! 3 they do not help each other like they should, see way to many just stand there and watch others struggle pulling hose or other work! 4 always park and set up 95% of the time down wind, and work the fire into the wind. The other 5 % the got lucky! 5 people think and worship them like gods. They are not gods and there are more workers that.put their life on the line all day long. Work in all and every condition. Providing safety and security for all, And no one gives them as second thought. See they don't ride in on a screaming red horse. In a army as big as necessary. With twice the equipment. Yes they fight fire. But not continually, only if and when there is a fire. To me they are far better and needed than pro sport players. But people worship them too. See when they mess up, make a mistake. No one blames them except maybe the person who watched his life burn while thet stood there. They do their Job they are paid for. No more. Other things too.

You don't know a thing about firefighting do you? 1. Yes, they need to leave them on for safety, they are absolutely necessary (plus it looks cooler) 2: those alarms are not always air running out. 3: They are usually standing waiting for an assignment by a captain or chief, or those are the on scene safety officers and chiefs making sure things are going smoothly. It may not look right to us, but they are doing something. 4: Down wind is not always an option, and it doesnt matter. You get in, stop, put the fire out, leave. especially in Boston. Nobody gives a crap about where to park, as long as you do it safely. And in Boston, the 100+ year old roads are very narrow, good luck fitting in everyone if they need to go "down-wind". 5: people appreciate their service, as anyone should. Not even sure what you were trying to say here.
