BOSS EV-30 Expression Pedal Does Ambient Guitar!

Музыка

The BOSS EV-30 is a great expression pedal for Ambient Guitar! In this video, I demo how to use its dual expression outputs to control the BOSS DD-500 and RV-500 at the same time, dynamically blending delay repeats and reverb level. Super cool!

What are some of the ways you've made use of an expression pedal? Post your experiences here!!!

Great vid--thanks for posting! I know the RV-500 has both a delay and reverb, and has multiple assign slots, so I think you could probably do the reverb time x delay feedback swap with a single expression pedal right? I currently have a Dunlop DVP1XL on my board, which has the Boss MS-3 (multi-effect switcher) at its heart. The Dunlop can be used as a volume pedal or an expression pedal. For years, I had been using it for volume, but now with the MS-3, the guitar goes directly into that input and I just use the Dunlop's expression out to control whatever makes sense in a given patch. Usually, it's still (now digitally-controlled) volume for muting or good swells, but it can also control wah, or any other parameter(s) of any effect in there (not unlike the xx-500 units)--or even to send MIDI to an external pedal/etc. Maybe I'll try out your experiment using two assigns, but would want them to be separate from volume for the swelly leads. Fortunately, the MS-3 has two expression/switch pedal inputs, so I could control another parameter independently with a different pedal or switch like the FS-7. The DVP1XL is a beast--solid and smooth, but also big and heavy. My only other expression pedal is a Moog EP-3, which gets the job done most of the time, but doesn't have a great feel to me and sometimes has calibration issues. You've got me thinking about the EV-30... the dual output definitely opens up some creative possibilities!

Triple delay have ex input? hmm.. something to think about I have some ordinary but really awesome expirience with ex pedals amt ex-50 + boss syb-5 really groovy but "vintage" synth sound. ex-50 is simple and cheap optic device, but works cool Vintura Vibe simulates expression by pressing and holding footswitch By the way, Bill, did you use Ventura Vibe? Maybe you have some unusual ideas for this pedal

I love this channel and have really benefited from your reviews of verbs and choruses. Many thanks for that. As far as expression pedals go, I'm still searching for a video that shows me how they can be useful in a typical song with band and vocals. In other words, it seems like they are most often used to create their own musical sounds whereas I'd like to hear how they can be used to enhance a song that is not made just especially for them. I can see them controlling a Leslie speed or tremolo speed, but there must be other tasteful uses. I just haven't come across a video yet demonstrating them. I'd welcome links.

Great video, like the dual control feature. Has anybody seen an expression pedal that lets you limit BOTH the minimum voltage and the maximum voltage output so you can really limit the sweep range of the pedal? I've got some pedals that when used with most expression pedals, the sweep range is just too big.

thanks for this. Im using the gt1000 core and trying to understand how to use it, and it is so confusing. Trying to figure out to use the expression. Not sure if I need to assign a footswitch to call wah or volume, then use the expression for levels. Or how to set it up as I have seen some using the top 1/4 of the pedal position to trigger the wah, and the lower to control volume But if I move past a certain point it will remove the effect. Seems very confusingVery in how to use one pedal for multiple things. Any suggestions? Any resources that will explain this process for the greater understanding?

The Strymon Compadre as a similar feature and I sometimes use an expression pedal as a volume pedal. The other option to avoid scratchy pots is to get a volume pedal without a pot. I use Morley volume pedals, and even after 20 years of constant use, they stay super quiet.

I've tried setting up my signal chain differently but it won't actually do anything, if I hook it up to my monument trem pedal the pedal won't even turn on... Can i use a dual expression pedal for two different pedals; or one channel for total pedal volume control. The manual on the es-8 has two exp in; two cv outs plug 4 control. NOT CLEAR IF the cv outs and exp out is dedicated to what its plugged into ! Why not have expression inputs be assigned to the different pedals that support exp. pedals; but fed thru the es-8 rather than the exp input on each specific pedal. the exp pedal does different thinks to my pitchfork vs tremelo box, perhaps a volume control. But the ES-8 does not seem to have that now; only two exp out; vs being able to supply Qty-8; outputs if you had 8 pedals. This works for pedals that support exp. in or midi control. next version of the ES--8A !! You Could feed thru to control all 8 pedals ( then software editable) or add 8 Exp/cv cabled outputs. Then.... go one step beyond to pass thru your expression pedals if you have two es-5,8's in series. Then can be programmed via the editor to be usable on the 2nd pedal board connected.
