Bose Amplifier working in Infiniti G35 w/Pioneer Z110BT and Metra 70-7551

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I do not recommend purchasing this harness any more, use the PAC ROEM-NIS2 adapter (amzn.to/ZoUCoK) instead of the 70-7551. There are MANY (including professional shops) who report terrible sound quality and volume using the same method and parts install I used here. I only leave this video because some shops give this wiring harness free with a radio, so it's worth a shot before buying the ROEM-NIS2. If this way does not work for you, you need the PAC ROEM-NIS2 adapter (amzn.to/ZoUCoK) instead of the 70-7551.
To do it the way I've done it, you connect the amp ground wire from the 70-7551, the ground wire from the 70-7551, and the ground wire from the factory harness together. Ground this to the body of the vehicle.

    Had to use this harness today for my new install in my g35. i got it to work exactly as you have it, but could turn my stereo up all the way; it was decent but not loud. I then spliced them all into the head units wiring instead of rca's and the difference was amazing. Stereo is booming at 30% volume; will need a bigger ground and to maybe separate the amp ground from the head unit to clear up any low volume static.

    @Kidoelement The 05+'s work fine this way, but 03-04s seem to need a different adapter - PAC ROEM-NIS - to work properly. If you want more help, come to the g35driver forums, I've got a fairly extensive post in the AV forums for what you need.

    The built-in EQ on the bose amp goes nuts on the signal whenever you send a high-level signal into it, and since it's an amp that is only designed to accept differential-balanced signals, you're already screwing it up with the low-level inputs. High-level inputs will cause it to interpret even more of the signal as noise. I recommend the PAC ROEM-NIS2 over the Scosche, as it's been used by my recommendation with extremely good results, but since they are equivalent, either is good.

    Hey Wrathernaut! Thank you for enlightening us all with your videos. They have been a huge help for me getting my double din into my g35. I wanted to ask you about the metra axxess interface for the steering wheel. Did you have any errors as far as mapping the buttons? I've managed to get it connected but the buttons don't do what they are supposed to do. Even remapping doesn't help. Have you ran into this?

    I had no issues with the default mapping on a pioneer NEX series unit last time I used one, at least not once I figured out just how long (very) you need to hold the volume button. If it is issuing commands to the unit, but not the ones you want, the best way to handle it is to download the axxess app and reprogram it with a USB OTG cable. It's much simpler than reprogramming the axxess directly.

    You'll have to take my word that the bass was unchanged from before, but it seems 03-04s have it worse for some reason. I did a full system upgrade including new amps, and just stopped at this point during the install to show that it was fine with only the 70-7551 harness. And if you thought anything Bose sounded "great" you need to hear what actual premium audio systems are supposed to sound like. But you can get it back to "normal" with a PAC ROEM-NIS2 in place of the 70-7551.

    Use the metra 70-7550 and go high level into the bose amp if you want to get more jam out of the system. Be sure you turn the new decks beep tones off as this will cause the unit to play "hot", meaning "loud" and to hot to touch. You are right people the 70-7551 harness will cut output almost in half . The Scosche SC-4 with adjustable input gain control will help greatly !!

    That's what worked for me, this time. Many others have failed using this method or with the speaker-level wires. As the updated description of this video states, you should use the PAC ROEM-NIS2 instead of the 70-7551 wiring harness for a much greater chance of being able to keep the bose amplifier. But even more recommended is to replace the bose amplifier, since it's terrible.

    The ROEM works best when connected to the speaker-level outputs in our cars. I do recommend attaching RCA cables long enough to reach trunk to the back of the new radio, and tucking those cables into the void under center console so that if you do add an aftermarket amplifier, you don't have to remove the radio again. Especially in the 03/04s - you risk damaging the clock trim, which is extremely brittle from the sun.

    Oscar Trujillo you need an amplifier for the speakers. It can be the Bose amp, an aftermarket amp or the radios internal amp. If you're using internal, use the 70-7550 harness and wire around the Bose. Aftermarket, use the 70-7550 and run your own rcas to the amp, using stock wiring to go to the speakers. Bose amp, use the ROEM-NIS2.

    Yes, but the bose systems are extremely inconsistent, so even with the 70-7551 harness, there's several significant issues that occur randomly. That's why the entire description of this video is telling you not to use the 70-7551.

  • @xfirechickenx2400

    I realize this is an old video, but I just went through the madness with this harness (Metra #70-7551) as I have a 2002 Infiniti I35 with the Bose system. Like the G35 it has the Bose amplifier and when I installed the new radio (one of the Pioneer AVIC model navigation units) the volume was extremely low and sound quality was horrible. (completely distorted) (Sorry if I'm annoying you with all the parentheses!! LOL!) I didn't read all the other comments, so please forgive me if my comments are redundant. Anyway, I called up Metra and was told that the RCA outputs on my Pioneer unit do not send enough voltage to the Infiniti's on board Bose amplifier, and that that's the reason for radio's the low volume and poor sound quality. I can't speak for all brand radios, but if you're aftermarket radio is exhibiting the same issues using the afore mentioned harness with the Bose amplifier pairing and it isn't a Pioneer, I'm thinking it's a pretty safe bet that the remedy I'm about to give you will work for you as well. The tech at Metra told me to clip off the RCA jacks on their harness (Metra #70-7551) and wire those leads to the Pioneer's actual speaker leads (you know, the separate +/- wires that all after market radios come with?) and that will fix the volume/sound quality issue. I did what the tech suggested and it totally worked!!! Full volume and ZERO distortion!! For all you wiring gurus out their, I don't want to get into a "doubling up of power amps" debate, I just know it worked (LOL!). I suppose an explanation of my last comment would be appropriate. I was always taught that you never wire two power amps in line, because the signal in the speaker channels those amps are responsible for would become too hot, and cause the signal coming out of the speakers to be distorted. Connecting the speaker leads from my Pioneer radio to the Bose amp would be doing that, because the amplifier in the Pioneer is utilized when using the speaker leads. Even though in this instance I doubled up two power amps, it did not cause the distortion that typically happens when wiring two amp in line. If you decide go the route of clipping off the RCA's on the Metra harness, just realize that the copper wire (without plastic surrounding it) on the outside of the cable's right and left sides are the negative wires. Another issue worth noting for the Infiniti/Bose amp installation is that the blue wire on the Metra #70-7551 that says "power antenna" is actually the wire for the Infiniti's "on board" antenna booster. It should be connected to the aftermarket radio's remote lead (usually blue). If it's not connected the radio reception will be poor.

  • @Wrathernaut

    @Wrathernaut

    10 жыл бұрын

    The problem isn't signal levels, it's signal type. The bose headunit and amplifier use a differential-balanced signal. Aftermarket headunits almost without exception, use an unbalanced signal. I'm not sure if it's just inconsistency in bose "quality" but sometimes, as in my install, it sounds fine with the low-level or speaker-level inputs. I can't speak for the i35, but the G35's antenna amplifier is POWERED by the wire from the radio. It is not triggering a relay. Aftermarket headunits do not provide enough amps to actually run the antenna amplifier, so FM reception is terrible if you try and run it from the radio's remote or power antenna lead. The way I've recommended it be wired, is to power the antenna amp with the same switched power wire that's powering the radio.

  • @xfirechickenx2400

    @xfirechickenx2400

    Wrathernaut It's funny you should mention that the remote wire on an aftermarket unit isn't powerful enough to run the Infiniti's antenna amplifier. Today while driving, I noticed that the radio reception is better since I wired the blue wire from the Metra harness to the remote wire on the Pioneer unit, but it still isn't perfect. This weekend I will take your advice and wire it to the "switched" (which I believe is the red wire) wire. BTW, clipping the RCA's from the Metra harness and wiring them to the speaker leads on the Pioneer did fix my audio problem. In your mind, is there a better way to do it?
