I had the 2009 Chateau Branaire Ducru saturday night and it was great, still very young but with a very nice balance, drinking so easy but still getting better.

Thanks Tom, really enjoy your posts! Your experience is hard to beat. I was in the wine business till I retired 5 years ago. I have a little of your top rated 00 & 05! Thank you for your advice!

Excellent analyses. My only disagreement is 2013, which was a disaster on both banks. 2016 and 2019 may be the two greatest vintages ever in Bordeaux.

How bout 1928, 1945, 1947, 1959,1961 & 1982? I have had only three wines from 1928 but the rest of the vintages I am well versed.

Ha indeed, I’ve been fortunate to have some of the top growths from 1959 and 1961 over the years from the cellar of our friend Stu Roberts down in Ft. Lauderdale and last year he uncorked a ‘47 Cheval Blanc that was sublime, with that subtle port like nuance that I had always read about. I haven’t checked your review of the ‘80s yet but that’s my favorite decade. 1989 Lynch Bages is my favorite wine of all time.

@@jimhowaniec 1947 Cheval Blanc is port like. I remember the 1st time I had the 47 Cheval Blanc in Paris in 1983. The wine had 14.5 % alcohol but had balance and length. As far as the 1989 Lynch Bages I have formerly stated in past episodes that I believe the 89 was one of the great Lynchs along with the 1985 which is very different in style.

I happen to enjoy a wine that I know you are not a fan : Chateau Pavie. And then we mix that with the 2003 vintage and at least for me I enjoy the wine a lot ! Thanks for your videos, I enjoy them a lot

It goes to stylistic differences. Pavie has a great terroir but they really push the limits of wine making but is still a darling of some wine writers. Sometimes less is more! Enjoy

Thanks for your informative videos. One query: are your comments & ranking of vintages equally applicable to Bordeaux white wines?

Bordeaux whites prosper during higher acid years. So the quality of red and white Bordeaux can vary greatly in the same vintage year.

Excellent reviews…thanks!! I was gifted a bottle of 2005 Ponte Canet, is it OK to open now in your opinion? It’s getting harder for me to keep waiting! 😅

I do own a case of 2005 Pontet Canet but have not cracked a bottle yet. My experience with the 2005’s is that there aging at a glacial pace. The right bank wines are more open then the left bank. If you decide to open the bottle I would decant it for at least one hour and serve it in large mouth Bordeaux glasses. Enjoy!

Thanks!! I’ll force myself to wait a little bit longer.😢 Also, i’ve read and heard that there are excellent wines from the Cru Bourgeois classification that can be consumed now and are great value. Would very much appreciate your insight & opinion into them maybe on a future video! Cheers 🍷

2010 is my favorite to drink right now. 2005 is very overrated imo.

Looks like I will have to buy some 2019, I've got some 16, 18 and 20 but no 19. Was it better on either bank that year?

An over site but there are certainly great wines made in 2010 but there many high alcohol and over extracted wines (especially on the right bank). The consensus of the wine press is that the 2010 is a great vintage but I prefer the 2009 because of the lushness and silky qualities of the year. Maybe not classic but so seductive.
