Boosted 370Z - Daily Driven or Weekend Only Car?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

*THE HONEST TRUTH* with my 600HP Nissan 370Z
Can you daily drive a boosted car? Whether you have installed a supercharger or a turbocharger, it can be scary taking the leap into the forced induction realm. Will the car be reliable? Can you drive a boosted car in the winter? What sort of maintenance comes with turbocharging your car?
I try to answer some of these questions in my 1-year updated video, where I talk about:
* Maintenance involved when supercharging your car, including oil changes, turbo guard and pre-filter cleaning, supercharger bearing wear
*Things you can do when building your car to ensure your turbo 370Z will be reliable
*Can you reliably tune a boosted car?
*After all this time, has the car lost boost, and is it still fun to drive my supercharged Nissan 370Z?
*Is turbocharging your car worth it?

my advice to everyone as someone who's made numerous mistakes due to shortcuts and lack of patience is TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO IT ONCE - DO IT RIGHT! Trying to save $40 on a part could cause you so many headaches or hundreds of dollars. Also, build above what you want if you can, having to swap out a bunch of parts if you want another 50 or 100 HP sucks

I love your build. One of the best 370z out there. You've done a marvellous job. Nevertheless, I have noticed a lot of supercharged/Turbo 370z vids blasting the Z's in a straight line. I'd like to see this car on a circuit with plenty of turns and different conditions to determine if the power sacrifices the car's overall handling. After tracking the car finding its pros and cons. Thank you for your channel. You have helped me with my own 370 to no end.

Is the 1” pulley shown at 11:43 only used in Aaron’s topgunz kit? I’m asking because I see the 1” pulley in a couple of peoples Soho A2A kits (for example, it can be seen in the thumbnail of EnthusiastPOV’s installation tutorial), but it isn’t there in other peoples pictures.

Hey Robert, your "Supercharger Install" playlist is precisely the whole reference I will be beginning my future boost initiative from when I can eventually supercharge a VQ37 infiniti Q50 with SOHO's A2A premium component kit. I actually am super fortunate being a 22yo son who is allowed access to endless good tools and a lift in a trade park shop with abundant determination to achieve this one day like you described. My limitation simply is life finances and incentives; but if that weren't the case, with your tutorial content and what has (for me) recently been a shocking expanse in advanced tools and space at my disposal, there's no way I couldn't connect the remaining application specific dots and see this boosted Q50 come to fruition. And ultimately, it would not have come about without this content because (who knew!!?) clean camera angles and prolonged explanation of complex projects could retain viewers' attention span and provide valuable intellectual resources that continually benefit them plus rake in replays and act as a lasting refence for an objective that won't be faded from lots of VQ heads any time soon. I know other channels with *complete airheads* who super undeservingly have tens of thousands more subs than you. Tons of value. Very empowering too because now i truly know I am already capable, that it is possible and the only hurdle is making plus retaining enough money to achieve it...... goddamnit bro.. Props on saving and working enough to make it happen. That alone is half the whole damn thing.

Bennett, in the admittedly few years I have been doing youtube I must say that this comment is probably one of the most touching I have read. My mission has alway mainly been knowledge sharing and showing people that working on cars is not that difficult. I hate being over charged for work from mechanics that sometimes do a crap job. I encourage everyone to get to know their car mechanically and get to a point that they feel comfortable trying the work themselves, while being realistic and emphasizing that failure can and does happen sometimes along the way. Which is also why I try to highlight my failures rather than try and block them from history. Hearing that I inspire others to work on their cars means a lot to me. The fact that I even make ad revenue at all is just secondary. While it would be nice to see more subs or viewership, I'm ultimately happy just knowing that I helped some one out. Cheers, and best of luck on your build!

@@thecarizon504 I'm very glad to hear that. And yes, cheers to this being the only actual source on the internet pertaining to this entire subject matter (that's what's pretty amazing too, it being based on an extremely popular product of a worldwide car manufacturer; boiled down to Robert & his 370Z in his gararge). Yes, you have created it (this resource) and it was not there before. I have laid at least some ground though, and these tutorials will be the permanent marker of the tallest climax my Q50 will ever reach if it ever does, but for now: •fast intentions non resonated hfc •ark performance 2.5 dual flow CBE •thermostatically controlled setrab series 6, 25 row cooler & matching thermoswitch wired suction fan •stillen gen 2 intake.. •and a currently uninstalled UpRev tuned ECU that needs some refinement due to subsequent mods and driveability. I had the same pulley fail on me. Also, my serpentine belt failed within 5,000 miles. I have a related question for you, how is your coolant overflow tank hose routed when coolant needs to be released from the system? Your routing looks like mine use to look and caused coolant to be sprayed on the serpentine belt. It was just a little coolant, but over time the coolant will breakdown the material in the belt. My coolant tank is now routed straight down and I am running the Green Fleetrunner belt (recommended by Aaron).

Even on my NA Z with a tune and bolt on I never really "have" to be heavy on the throttle, more than enough power to quickly get up to the legal speed limit with minimal throttle input. In some ways I prefer my slower 4 cylinder car for hoonjng because I can smash the throttle and still sip fuel and be under the speed limit 🤣

The new kit uses a standard conical style filter which I think is what you are referring to. The turbo guard with pre-filters works good. It does clog faster than a standard conical filter (less surface area), and I noticed just a little bit of suit build up in the pipes, but nothing concerning. Definitely looming forward to going back to a conical filter if and when top guns gets around to trading out my old supercharger kit.

@@72mlauer hydrolock shouldn't be an issue unless you drive through around a foot of water which you shouldn't be anyways. As long as you have all of your splash guards on, rain should be no problem. And you can try a water sock for added protection. The access is another matter. You don't need to clean them as often but to get to the filter you do have to pull back the fender liner which is an extra step.
