True, true! I ordered therefore his book. I tried a lot of other online teachers. Some are really nice guys, but it didn't in the end for the one or the other reason not really work for me. It means not that I sometimes don’t watch what other teachers show. But normally I have more than enough to do here and the method is getting better and better. In the end, it's a lot of work to do and I hope Arthur delivers more Material.

Hey Nick, it's not really working HARD, but working SMART. I found that 10minutes at a time with a short break in between , learns faster than 1 long session. All the Best....

I play multiple instruments. I’m left handed also. The piano has always been tough. But it is all about muscle memory! Thank you for your encouragement! Practice is usually not fun; but you made it fun!

I have been playing classical piano for years. Always wanted to try boogy woogy and this is definitely the way. This guy is brilliant!!

Absolutely brilliant! This singular video cuts through to the heart of piano practice! There is no magic or hacks on the way to becoming a better pianist. You have to do the work and put in the effort! Thank you for posting this and helping me to focus my practice!

Mental challenges for the brain! Nice job

I've tried picking up piano for years to emulate my grandfather a great boogie woogie player. After a few hours I gave up thinking it impossibe. I can barely play the piano and now at 48 I'm trying again and after watching this it's actually coming. Every day I'm getting closer with these exercises. Can't thank you enough for this. I was in the woods and now I've found the path.

Great explanation of how the subconscious brain is so important to ear training, muscle memory and especially the hand independence requirement of Boogie Woogie. This is different than multi-tasking, which studies have proven to really be multi-switching. Quickly switching between one task and then the other but never actually performing both simultaneously. Getting the left hand to go on auto is something else altogether and you demonstrated it well. For me, repetition is more important than association as a mnemonic memory device. Boogie Woogie is so different than almost any other type of music that is linear with melody and chord changes working in syncopation. This video is helpful to all of us learning how to play Boogie.

As a beginner, this is such an important video for me to see. It's reassuring to know that mastering a new piece is the same process for everyone regardless of how long they've been playing, and that nobody just "gets it" right away. I love your technique for attaining hand independence and will definitely be using it going forward (and cleaning my piano lots while I do it), cheers!

Arthur ... fantastic ! ... at this point, I've managed to get a bunch of left hand boogie patterns under my belt, that I can play consistently without even looking, but as soon as I bring in the right, the left begins to go to hell. So realizing now that I was missing the next 14 exercises you demo'd ...jumping into those now. Big Thanks !! .. and I'm a subscriber now ;-)

I went and saw a play called Million Dollar Quartet. Story of Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Johnny Cash (and someone else). Well the dude playing Jerry Lee Lewis KILLED it on the piano. I came home and said to myself, “I am going to learn that left hand”! I did exactly what this video teaches. Though, it took me 3 months to have my left hand not think about what it was doing! But, man, when you get it - you got it! Cool video. Thanks for sharing!

I bought the book before even realising he had a YT channel... the lessons blend perfectly.. just got my first keyboard and I love Boogie Woogie

Thanks Arthur for showing us in such great detail the process that we’re all trying to master - it’s so encouraging! Having studied the workings of the brain, I can appreciate how mechanical repetition (that establishes new patterns which move from the conscious to the subconscious), allows us to repeat a pattern without ‘thinking’ about it. A similar process takes place when we’re learning to drive a car.

Jim, that's great! Exactly the intended purpose of the video. There is no real "short cut" to motor learning. Just takes repetition, repetition, and more repetition. ;-)

Pay attention to this guy. He knows his stuff. Your brain does work on this shit over night while you're sleeping. Arthur's one of the best on the boogie scene. When you see him put it all together you'll be blown away! Go Arthur go!

Dude -- thank you for this! This is great! This is the way to get good. Good old-fashioned hard work over TIME. Muscle memory. I've done it on guitar. For years I wasn't able to play what I wanted. I did this intense repetition and after about a years I suddenly got SO MUCH BETTER. And..I can now play without thinking. You still have to learn new parts, but the better you get the easier it gets to learn new challenging music.

Last year I was in a music class making my own song and I chose a rock and roll tune. Before that I haven’t played in like 7 years. I had to reteach myself everything. I couldn’t do separate left hand. Until I thought to 100% concentrate on something else. Within 30 seconds I was so excited that I figured it out. It’s weird to think to learn something you shouldn’t give it any thought

That's right! It's just like walking, or driving, or eating... at first we have to really focus and try. But if we are motivated to keep trying eventually it becomes a learned pattern of movements and we can do it "in our sleep" if we have to!

i cant think of a better lesson than something as real as this. Showing yourself learning a grove simply gives a person confidence in whatever method they use of repetition they use to learn. I honestly was thinking how do people practice. I am a musician and fairly new at piano but I often feel like for me to really master just a riff or part of a song I would have to do what Im sure is way way more than anyone else has to do before it comes naturally. However I often think Im sure things dont just come naturally super quick for most people. I mean when you see a respected musician you see them when they have honed the music they are playing to the point of making it look easy. So when a lesson like this comes along and shows you how to practice it by showing you his true method and being humble enough to make it clear that it takes work for beginners as well as advanced players to learn something new. Im rambling I just think this is simple video teaches so much more than than it intended to teach. Incredible to keep finding great teachers.

I did almost this exact same thing about 2 years ago not knowing if it was productive or useless. I'm really glad I came across this video! I'm going to work up some more left hand patterns now that I have some confidence that it's a viable approach. I would wear earbuds so that I could watch Star Trek on my phone. Then I would wear standard headphones on top of the earbuds and attach them to the piano so that I could hear the keyboard and the metronome. Then I would try to text and play on the phone while playing piano and watching the show (floating window on the phone for the show). Made getting two hours of practice in much easier!

I, for one, intend on following your lead and am going to get that left-hand down..firmly! And.. I've learned you've spent a long time here in Arizona and by my name you can see I am here --I think I use the same Casio(CDP-135) that you have! So- starting today 4/26/20, I 've adopted you as my new and only teacher of this wonderful genre of music- It was just meant to be--

One of the biggest lessons here for me is seeing the substantial amount of time and effort it takes to really get something down. Great format this video has.
