The fact that some people see this guy as being anything other than humble and intelligent blows my mind. Every single answer he gives, ever, is pure class. It's all credit to others. He doesn't badmouth, or self-aggrandize. He makes music and tries to make a difference.

I agree. He's a genuinely decent person -- on top of being an incredible creative artist.

Yes, he has contributed many donations, but he should not divulge that to the public to prevent himself from being seen as a self-important cock (compare that to Prince who kept all his donations private). And creative artist? Well, U2 have done a number of solid songs despite their limited talent, but Bono is not an incredible creative artist. Paul McCartney, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Brian Eno are creative geniuses. Bono is not...

@ Greg Stella Could not have put it better myself. I'm Irish and the thing that forever boggles my brain (and annoys me intensely) is the fact that the one place where he gets the most stick/criticism is his home country. Go figure. Personally I've always had a hell of a lot of time for the guy, I admire him greatly and he makes me proud to be an Irish man. I've been a fan of U2 from the get go. Growing up in Ireland when I was younger Bono for me was always a voice of positivity when around me negativity seemed to reign supreme. To Bono I say: 'Keep on rockin; in the free world" bro. It certainly needs you. Over and out.

He's a great man and absolutely fearless.
I wish I could meet bono...I love this man...and his music.
Great interview. I enjoyed it. Bono is an independent thinker. A good, smart, intelligent man.
Thank you Bono, your music lifts the spirit, and your spirit lifts us, showing us that we can make a difference. You inspire me to reach farther, and do more .
One of the reasons I have loved Bono for many years. Not only the way he sings, writes, performs, his looks, but the way he speaks.
4:13 "I come from a long line of traveling salesmen on my mother's side." Quoting his own song lyrics. Was fully expecting him to say. "I wasn't going to buy just anyone's cockatoo."
I love their music, I love seeing them perform, I love what they stand for, and I will continue to do so until my time is up. Bono is a family man, a proud activist for every thing good that this world should be. I you don;t like Bono then either you are ignorant or you don;t like the world you live in. He loves his family, he is kind to everyone he meets, he does nothing but positive things with his time.. What's not to like!!??

Not exactly Keith Richards is he
32:09 Songs are like prayers, they are to us...songs are a preoccupation...all of these problems are spiritual...Songs come from somewhere else. Bono is a Christian I respect. He uses language that is fresh, he's engaged in problems that face our world, and he strikes me as a person of integrity.
I love conscience rock! Their early music challenged me on a lot of social issues.
This man is amazing.
I'm so proud of Bono for making it his life's work to get involved in the politics of poverty. Yes, he's over the top, large ego, but I love him for it. I wish I had half his energy. I lived in Africa for 9 years, and it wore me out. Bravo to him for not giving up.
Bono truly is a man from a different world, beyond his time and beyond this world. He is one of the most brilliant men you will ever meet. He's funny, but never underestimate what this man is capable of. A true legend, absolutely will always love him and U2! Truly one of a kind...
Bono is such a great and intelligent guy! I respect him a lot! Idk why do so many people hate U2 so much...

To this day, so far Bono said that Far Away( So Close) Is his favorite song Which is phenomenal!!!!!
All I know is that what Bono says makes sense. We are all hypocritical in a lot of ways. Sometimes the best we can do is to have good intentions. He is not perfect. Nor am I and neither are you. Do the best that YOU can while you're here. :)
I am still so interested in Bono and his band.
Amazing interview. Bono is one incredible person on and off stage.

You people who bash Bono for being rich... Really?!?! So you aren't allowed to be rich and help others at the same time? Are you only allowed to help others when you are middle class or poor?!?!? There is nothing wrong of him wanting to be rich while helping others. Bono has saved and improved so many lives etc... and some of you shit talk him because he wants to be rich himself while he does it? Really?!?! Like really?!?!?

Bono has done a lot of great things for humanity. Kudos. Now here's a challenge, you and your band make an album as good as the first one, Boy.

Why only as good as Boy? They have a number of much better albums. Oh wait, i get it...you're the hipster who says they only like their early music from before they became big (and in U2's case better).

October was great, War prettygood, Under a Blood Red Sky was great, The Unforgettable Fire was great, Joshua Tree was great, Rattle and Hum was great, Achtung Baby was great, Zooropa was great, and after that I started losing interest. However Boy has always been the album by which they built their standard of greatness. They sounded hungry, and fresh. After Joshua Tree too much celelebrity and media spotlight was put on them, and pressure. Few bands can ever really survive that in terms of keeping the focus needed to sustain maintaining the greatness of when they started. But, in the case of Bono and all he's done for humanity, if that meant a less great U2 then I guess the trade off was worth it.

Great interview, thankyou Bono and Charlie Rose....
KEEP IT UP GUYS! KEEP GOING, KEEP GIVING, NEVER STOP GRIEVING FOR THE LESS UNFORTUNATE.... I LOVED YOU GUYS EVER SINCE I HEARD YOUR FIRST RECORD IN THE EARLY 80'S. NEVER STOP DOING WHAT YOUR BEST AT STAYING GROUNDED AND JUST BEING HUMAN..WHAT A WONDERFUL HUMAN YOU GUYS ALL ARE!
Bono does pay personal taxes in Ireland, since that is his residence. It is the U2 operations that are now based out of the Netherlands. This idea that somehow he is not paying taxes under Irish law is a delusion.
BONO IS A HUGE INSPIRATION TO THIS WORLD!!! BONO HAS A HEART MADE OF GOLD!!! BONO DOES GIVE A SHIT!!!..BONO IS A WONDERFUL HUMAN BEING!!!
Love and admire him
What a truly inspirational, and human, leader...
Bono has followed a life affirming philosophy right from the start and has used his fame to pull together the worlds best minds, the best ideas, to solve a difficult problem. God bless him for standing up for what he believes and inspiring millions to act.

the only way to "fight poverty" is to help encourage someone to keep fighting against their own idleness, inability, and discouragement.
Bono is a great man, intelligent and made a massive impact with U2 many have their opinions on him but in my opinion he deserves credit
Bono I think summed himself up when he says he doesn't like John Lennon's "imagine" - dreaming was a sixties thing, today we are more driven by doing, action.
I think a lot of people don't realise how much good he has done... still doing ...
Love that guy.

Fabulous Man You are Bono!!! "artists are plumbers, mechanics ~~~ Soul-miners" ~Bono
Fantastic. Just fantastic.
Ha...love how he quoted Breathe lyrics in this interview. Beauty
A bunch of very vain and shallow comments here. Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone has to do what they can with what they have. I don't envy Bono but I'm pleased he has done well with what has been given to him. If you haven't been around "A" type personalities, you don't realize that there are differences. Much like "principalities, powers, etc" in the angelic realm. So to within the human one.
U2 only wants to put out great albums, and I mean truly GREAT albums. That's why it takes a long time to make them, they are constantly rewriting them and perfecting them. U2 has been around more than 30 years, long past when most other bands would have broken up. Just be glad they are still making music and touring.

No. Not just something I read. Personal experience. Not putting the Irish down. Lovely people. The thing is - when Bono gets on his soapbox, people complain. Then he doesn't say anything - people complain. He's a rock star. Not his job to organize the world. I DO remember several occasions when Bono spoke of injustices and violence in Ireland -good times and bad. I prefer to see him on a stage and not behind a podium.
Lots of rehasing of much of the old Bono stories and material but you have to admit, he has that special spark and sharp perspective. "We live well..." They sure do. I love his energy and luminosity even if he reuses a lot of the same catch phrases
Great man.
I was at U2 very first USA show at the Ritz NYC, Bono is like the Irish Muhammad Ali, Hes the real deal.. Hes asking the richest of the world to do the same. To not have the spirit of greed you must do this work. Just imagine if Jay Z and P Diddy thought like Bono. Bono is married to the same women for 32 years,

Love them or hate them, Bono and U2 are perhaps the only modern artists of any kind to realize and grasp the inherently human contradiction of their own Ethical(Aristotelian Ethics - not that abomination of a concept called "social ethics") natures over/against their fortune laden individually aesthetic talents. Aesthetics - all aesthetics - is contemplative and abstract - while Ethics demands of each individual to constantly act, to choose, to become, and not just contemplate - thereby becoming concrete and not abstract. It is indeed world historically rare to find artists who possess even a bit of dialectical thinking and thus appropriating to themselves the disjunctive that every human being faces at every moment of his or her existence. .

hahahaha so true.. i thought i was the only one
In essence great stuff. From personal experience his stance on the Irish have a history of injustice is fully dimensional. I left Dublin, aged 3 and my family moved to a provincial town where people of Anglo Irish descent (on one side) were not welcome. I believed myself to be Irish, but was treated as a hostile enemy. So Bono, look at the injustices within your own country before you take on the challenges of others. You'll have more credibility that way!!
Again your human and not the only person in the world or rock goddess that hasn't paid his freaking taxes....So what! He has blessed us w/ 30 years of music that has touched my life and I'm sure many others. They are amazing! and I'm Irish as well and understand just hoe fragile are lives are and can so quickly stop, because of the lessons we learned from the Irish potato famine.
Bono is a great salesman for Monsanto.
A lot of people talking shit about bono and U2 are extremely ignorant. This man has been doing community work with pioneers when a lot of you haters were still in diapers or weren't even born. Like honestly, if you didn't grow up listening to U2 and understand what they've contributed in the world, you have no say. It's funny how U2 went from being the most respected and loved band of 87 & 91 where everyone understood what they were about. To now where everyone is whining like babies and not really saying or doing anything. fuck ya'll
