The fact that some people see this guy as being anything other than humble and intelligent blows my mind. Every single answer he gives, ever, is pure class. It's all credit to others. He doesn't badmouth, or self-aggrandize. He makes music and tries to make a difference.

Yes, he has contributed many donations, but he should not divulge that to the public to prevent himself from being seen as a self-important cock (compare that to Prince who kept all his donations private). And creative artist? Well, U2 have done a number of solid songs despite their limited talent, but Bono is not an incredible creative artist. Paul McCartney, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Brian Eno are creative geniuses. Bono is not...

@ Greg Stella Could not have put it better myself. I'm Irish and the thing that forever boggles my brain (and annoys me intensely) is the fact that the one place where he gets the most stick/criticism is his home country. Go figure. Personally I've always had a hell of a lot of time for the guy, I admire him greatly and he makes me proud to be an Irish man. I've been a fan of U2 from the get go. Growing up in Ireland when I was younger Bono for me was always a voice of positivity when around me negativity seemed to reign supreme. To Bono I say: 'Keep on rockin; in the free world" bro. It certainly needs you. Over and out.

Bono is a family man, a proud activist for every thing good that this world should be. I you don;t like Bono then either you are ignorant or you don;t like the world you live in. He loves his family, he is kind to everyone he meets, he does nothing but positive things with his time.. What's not to like!!??

32:09 Songs are like prayers, they are to us...songs are a preoccupation...all of these problems are spiritual...Songs come from somewhere else. Bono is a Christian I respect. He uses language that is fresh, he's engaged in problems that face our world, and he strikes me as a person of integrity.

There is nothing wrong of him wanting to be rich while helping others. Bono has saved and improved so many lives etc... and some of you shit talk him because he wants to be rich himself while he does it? Really?!?! Like really?!?!?

October was great, War prettygood, Under a Blood Red Sky was great, The Unforgettable Fire was great, Joshua Tree was great, Rattle and Hum was great, Achtung Baby was great, Zooropa was great, and after that I started losing interest. However Boy has always been the album by which they built their standard of greatness. They sounded hungry, and fresh. After Joshua Tree too much celelebrity and media spotlight was put on them, and pressure. Few bands can ever really survive that in terms of keeping the focus needed to sustain maintaining the greatness of when they started. But, in the case of Bono and all he's done for humanity, if that meant a less great U2 then I guess the trade off was worth it.

A bunch of very vain and shallow comments here. Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone has to do what they can with what they have. I don't envy Bono but I'm pleased he has done well with what has been given to him. If you haven't been around "A" type personalities, you don't realize that there are differences. Much like "principalities, powers, etc" in the angelic realm. So to within the human one.

U2 only wants to put out great albums, and I mean truly GREAT albums. That's why it takes a long time to make them, they are constantly rewriting them and perfecting them. U2 has been around more than 30 years, long past when most other bands would have broken up. Just be glad they are still making music and touring.

No. Not just something I read. Personal experience. Not putting the Irish down. Lovely people. The thing is - when Bono gets on his soapbox, people complain. Then he doesn't say anything - people complain. He's a rock star. Not his job to organize the world. I DO remember several occasions when Bono spoke of injustices and violence in Ireland -good times and bad. I prefer to see him on a stage and not behind a podium.

Love them or hate them, Bono and U2 are perhaps the only modern artists of any kind to realize and grasp the inherently human contradiction of their own Ethical(Aristotelian Ethics - not that abomination of a concept called "social ethics") natures over/against their fortune laden individually aesthetic talents. Aesthetics - all aesthetics - is contemplative and abstract - while Ethics demands of each individual to constantly act, to choose, to become, and not just contemplate - thereby becoming concrete and not abstract. It is indeed world historically rare to find artists who possess even a bit of dialectical thinking and thus appropriating to themselves the disjunctive that every human being faces at every moment of his or her existence. .

In essence great stuff. From personal experience his stance on the Irish have a history of injustice is fully dimensional. I left Dublin, aged 3 and my family moved to a provincial town where people of Anglo Irish descent (on one side) were not welcome. I believed myself to be Irish, but was treated as a hostile enemy. So Bono, look at the injustices within your own country before you take on the challenges of others. You'll have more credibility that way!!
