I saw this tour in both Pasadena and Oakland. What an amazing live show. U2 never fails to deliver the most amazing, energetic, yet highly personal show. I remember my 8th grade history teacher coming to class talking about how she'd seen the War Tour show the night before in San Francisco. She said it was almost a religious experience. I was like 'yeah, whatever'. I remember eating those words when I saw them the first of two nights in Oakland in November go 1987. Miss Brown was totally on my mind that first night!

As far as im concerned, I dont think U2 have ever done a bad tour throughout their 40yr career. I found something of worth in every tour that they've ever done.

You know, before this concert, I admittedly would not have called myself a U2 fan. ( Shame on me ). But after this concert, I had a different opinion. Absolutely, one of the best concerts I have ever been to. It was just incredible. U2 is without a doubt a band that stands the test of time. I will NEVER forget this show. Timeless.

DrawFlush That is the story of 80 percent of their fans. I was drug to a JT concert in 87 and blown away. That is why they are so big. They toured relentlessly in the early 80s and built fanbase up over seven years, then of course the Joshua Tree probably tripled the numbers of an already big band. They sold out Madison Square Garden in minutes in 85, 2 years before Joshu Tree. They only had three well known songs at the time: Pride, New Years Day, and Sunday Bloody Sunday. Only Prince and Bruce Springsteen played to more people in 85 in US. That is a testament to their live reputation.

I had the same experience! I liked some of their songs, but didn’t have any idea about how big their show was until I lucked into getting tickets. Hearing 70,000+ people singing together was an unreal experience in itself, but the sound and production was unfathomable. I’m still awed every time I see photos and videos because it’s like I can’t process/remember how big it was.

He was nothing short of genius. I saw the 1980 Pink Floyd The Wall tour at Nassau coliseum show. Gas abs tolls from Phila cost more than the ticket price $15 musically it is still superior to Roger Waters wall tours , and it took me a long time to say that- perhaps the new album, David Gilmour , the newness and surprise of the experience. And seeing the documentary of the wall gave me a real appreciation. Of his work. Likewise major credit to Marc Brickman - he was actually contacted. By Pink Floyd , and he was in his 20's back then. And he grew up right arm round the corner from me. Why did I never meet him? My career wiould have skyrocketed. Concerts just have achieved a high level of sophistication thanks to these innovators .

I believe that this is THE most spectacular live entertainment event and experience ever staged in history. The scale is jaw-dropping and the execution was flawless; the investment of creative energy more than paid off Kudos to all involved, famous and anonymous. I can't even begin to imagine what will ever top it - which is why, I suppose, I'm not in demand as a stage designer. Sigh...

Bono wasn't lying about the how great the show was from the cheap seats. I went to several dates on that tour, in Dublin I had seats in the middle section, Pasadena and one night in Anaheim I had GA, and the second night in Anaheim I had seats in the rafters. It was a totally unique and special experience wherever you were in the stadium. In GA there was a very intimate experience with the band, but you weren't able to see a lot of the graphics in the screens. In the middle section you got more of a typical experience of this kind of concert where the screens and the band were both easily visible. In the rafters however you got to see the exterior of the claw and that perspective was totally different. There just aren't a lot of bands who put in so much effort to give every single person in the stadium an extraordinary experience. The U2 live experience is just at a whole other level.

Fun fact: This setup actually cracked the floor of Etihad stadium in Melbourne Australia. They had to prop up the underground parking underneath the stadium so the cracks in the floor wouldn't get any worse. This happened because there was only 4 points of contact for that behemoth of a stage roof. Last I heard the cracks are still there to this day.

U2, you are the best band ever, and it is clear we are all still nostalgic with the past, when you see everybodys energy rise when you play your old songs :)

But with the giant stage production you lose space on the field (standing/GA) and since you don’t have any “walls” of amps they and the lights need be hung somewhere - and there aren’t any walls behind the stage to help with that. And the whole idea with the giant circle stage without any backdrop or walls on the stage was that everyone should be able to see the band and get a great experience. And the idea behind this gigantic stage was to get the people in the stadiums to feel close to the band (in Bonos words: To turn big stadium to a small club.) and it worked.
