So true. Some musicians can emote through their instruments, and Hornsby is definitely one of them. I recently listened to an old Journey song, Send Her My Love, and Neil Schon does the same thing with an electric guitar (not an instrument you think of as emotional lol) in that song. The guitar solo sounds almost wistful.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written...ever arranged...ever recorded, and in one take for the vocals no less.

This rendition is so soulful. Everyone in the band is amazing. But of course Hornsby on the keys and Bonnie's soulful, bluesy voice, are sublime.

Bruce Hornsby was playing Piano. That was Paul Schafer playing keys. Small difference I know but those heavyweights have to be respected.

Totally agree about Hornsby but what is Shafer even playing? He always tries to showboat and make it about him. He's nothing more than a sound effects man half the time.

WHAT A VOICE! the phrasing in this version is UNREAL!

She absolutely still has a beautiful voice.

She is singing in a Willie Nelson laid back jazz style that shows versatility in her vocals. Kudos to the musicians not being thrown by her restyling in this performance.

Just a note, this song written by Mike Reid, a former offensive lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals, and Allen Shamblin. A friend of mine played with the Bengals with Mike and recalled him coming into the locker room after a game complaining that he had broken a finger and wouldn’t be able to play piano until it healed.

You always know its her and thats what makes a great voice.

Reality of love not reciprocated is a freedom within itself.

I read that when she recorded this song, she basically did it in one take. I also read that the writers of the song had written a different part for the piano but Bruce Hornsby improvised on it and just took it to another level. What incredibly talented artists ❤.

@@melatomic Correct. Mike Reid wrote this along with Alan Shamblin while they wrote songs in Nashvile. Before that, Reid attended college in Pennsylvania where he studied music and played football for th Cincinnati Bengals. It was on his first album "Walk On Faith" in '91/92.

Wow, Bonnie voice still sound exactly the same. I truly wished she’d actually sang the song exactly like her original recording, instead of just talking through some parts of the song. Oh well, I guess we can’t always get what we want. I still loved it though, because it’s always been one of my favorite songs.

This is beautiful. I have always loved her music and she sounds amazing in this video. She should have been inducted a long time ago but glad she has been recognized for her talent.

Have never seen a singer so into her lyrics, such as during this performance by Bonnie. Unbelievable how connected she is. How different than the 100 various pop singers of today who are singing for a paycheck.

I relate to this song. There's a girl I'm in love with. I knew she didn't feel the same way. I figured she deserved to know. I told her. We had a good conversation about it. I just pretended to be cool about it, while in fact I was, and still am, shattered. That was a month ago. Since then everything went downhill. It's just difficult to put your feelings away and stil try to be there for her when she needs me. The night I broke I listened to this song and I just felt like my feelings deserved to be there as this isn't my fault.

This is one of the finest songs ever written, thank you Bonnie Raitt. Great vocal. Bruce Hornsby played beautifully and was fully featured (btw. he started as Linda Ronstadts pianist) but yet again Bonnie missed the chance to demo her lead guitarist /slide guitar mastery on an important occasion of record. Like many great women she is naive about self promotion/ getting full recognition for real talent. This was definitely the place for that.

What a gift to listen to this beautiful melody. Times like this I truly appreciate that the universe is great and I am very very grateful ❤

"The Glow" is the masterpiece like "Nick of Time" not a bad cut on it. A real sleeper,, as it didnt make the cut to CD in the beginning of that technology. I think its her best offering.
