I love the story of how this song was written. Stevie was on her way to her honeymoon and heard Prince's "Little Red Corvette" on the radio and was immediately inspired to write this song. She detoured from her honeymoon to get into the recording studio and got Prince's number. They had never met. She called him and told him that she was working on a song inspired by his "Little Red Corvette" and that she was giving him 50% of the royalties for the song if it ever became successful. She asked him what he was doing right that moment and if he could come into the studio to play on the recording. He said yes and was there in 20 mins. He worked on it and played on it in the studio with Stevie and her crew for about an hour and a half, and this is the result. Pretty great stuff.

☮️ Nicks has often told the story of how she wrote the song. She wrote it on the day of her marriage to Kim Anderson on January 29, 1983. The newlyweds were driving up to San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara when Prince's song "Little Red Corvette" came on the radio. Nicks started humming along to the melody, especially inspired by the lush synthesizers of the song, and "Stand Back" was born. They stopped and got a tape recorder and she recorded the demo in the honeymoon suite that night. Later, when Nicks went into the studio to record the song, she called Prince and told him the story of how she wrote the song to his melody. He came to the studio that night and played synthesizers on it, although his contribution is uncredited on the album. He and Nicks did agree however to split the publishing royalties on the song 50-50. Then, she says, "he just got up and left as if the whole thing happened in a dream.☮️

Not just young woman, not just rock singers nor songwriters....but all those in the industry. She is more than a talented performer, shrewd businesswoman and public advocate for many causes.....She is Stevie Nicks: A FORCE OF NATURE that bends like a willow while still strong enough to knock down walls with one note 🎶. If her voice doesn't snare you then her lyrics will. She IS Timeless and she knows it. Rock On, ancient queen!

A great song was a big hit but should of been much bigger. Stevie is such a diva, up there with Cher, Diana Ross, Madonna, and Tina Turner; the strut on stage is priceless. For age 71 she looks stunning; the weight gain has turned a skinny girl into a Rubenesque model. Brava!

I call her "The Goddess of Rock"...because for me, when I was a younger guy, rummaging thru my stepfather's record collection, all the album covers with her on them, whether it was 'Mac' or her early solo work, Stevie looked like a 'goddess'...with the head laid back or cocked to the side...long, blonde hair with those hooded capes covering her head...or those gypsy dresses with the thigh-high boots. She is definitely rock royalty..and you wont find a much better lyricist in the business. I have a great amount of respect for her talent.
