Lyrics:
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
When the wicked
Carried us away in captivity
Required from us a song
Now how shall we sing the lord's song in a strange land
When the wicked
Carried us away in captivity
Requiering of us a song
Now how shall we sing the lord's song in a strange land
Let the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart
be acceptable in thy sight here tonight
Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts
be acceptable in thy sight here tonight
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
By the rivers of Babylon (dark tears of Babylon)
there we sat down (You got to sing a song)
ye-eah we wept, (Sing a song of love)
when we remember Zion. (Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
By the rivers of Babylon (Rough bits of Babylon)
there we sat down (You hear the people cry)
ye-eah we wept, (They need their God)
when we remember Zion. (Ooh, have the power)

It's lived a life before this... Psalm 137 [1] By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. [2] We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. This is a very easy question to answer. The black guy dancing around is not singing anything, the song was written by a german white guy who is doing the singing, the guy you see jumping around is lip syncing. In addition, the good looking gal the camera is focusing on is also lip syncing, she is in there as window dressing. The person who created this whole thing should get an award.
I'm listening. I never heard this beautiful praise song to God before.

@Peter Evans . This recording is analogue. Digita recording of music began in the midst 70's with classical music , made by Philips and Deutsche Gramophon . In the end if 70's, Giorgio Moroder made the first digital recording for an album, the mane is E=MC². But the first album totally in digital recording was The Visitors, the last album of ABBA. It's realized for a "new" technology called compact disc. An analogue recording if well done can be so good than a digital recording, but to show their sound quality depends of the transcript to digital.

@Peter Evans in the 70's there's a standard level for digital recording in bits . The consumer standard choose is 16 bit, the recording studio at the time in the early of 80nuses 32 bit. Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett have their own individual projects, and can be booked for events on their websites. Reggie Tsiboe seems to be living out his 70s out of the limelight. Maizie williams is actively touring with a Boney M. "Cover band." Bobby Farrell unfortunately died in 2010 of heart failure in a hotel room while on tour. Interestingly, he died in St. Petersburg, Russia on December 30. The very same city and date that Rasputin (the subject and namesake of one of their most famous songs) died.

Psalm 137 1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. 2 There on the poplars we hung our harps, 3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” 4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land? 5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill. 6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.

Amen. It's curious to think that such Godly sentiment would be "cancelled" immediately in todays culture. What a shame it is for art today to be deprived of such meaningfulness, and to find itself so debased as a result.

Hey, sounds like you forgot the rest of the psalm: 7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation. 8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. 9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

I came to see if anyone else had noticed this. So many layers to this song that the whole world has missed. They were singing deliverance over Black America, maybe they knew, maybe they didn't May God open our eyes. 🙏🏾
They didn’t win this, but they will be remembered forever. Who remembers the winner? Not me. This song gets played every time I read this Psalm!! They won in my mind! ❤❤❤

@beergrill4607 oh i see now. Well we all have something about a song that makes us happy.this reminds me how god government will rule and will bring peace. Daniel 2: 44..psalms 37: 9, 10,11, 29 And no more pain and death revelation 21: 3, 4 So not only does it bring back memories of when I was young? It also gives me thoughts about the future. So that's my answer. And everybody else has their own reason. I hope that answer your question.

It's based on the bible. It's about Israel being beaten by Babylon. Psalm 137:1 KING JAMES VERSION By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. {137:2} We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. {137:3} For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. {137:4} How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land? {137:5} If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. {137:6} If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy. {137:7} Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. {137:8} O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. {137:9} Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
