Pussycat was a Dutch pop group from Brunssum in Limburg led by the three Kowalczyk sisters: Toni, Betty and Marianne. Other members of the band were Lou Willé (Toni's then-husband), Theo Wetzels, Theo Coumans, and John Theunissen. The band had four international hits in a row in the mid-seventies: Mississippi (1975), Georgia (1976), Smile (1976) and My broken souvenirs (1977) and then a series of hit singles in the Netherlands and Belgium. Mississippi was number 1 the Netherlands and in another 15 countries. 'Mississippi' achieved 22 gold records. It is estimated that "Mississippi" sold over five million copies worldwide. Most of Pussycat's songs were written by Werner Theunissen.

I met Toni, in 1971, before Pussycat was formed, she was a very talented singer even then. We even danced after her gig, was finished, We said our goodbyes, on our coach, when I got to my home town, with my mates, think she carried on to Manchester. To her hotel. good memories.💔💔💔

I had forgotten this song. YT suggested it and instantly it was 1976 and my family are on our way to a holiday, such a time of innocence and contentment for me... put a lump in my throat!
This was my brother's favourite song when he was a little boy, he is now 51 and still loves it!

Such a beatiful song and beauiful voices 🥰🥰certainly the most beautiful song about Mississippi ever made 🥰🥰 Before I discovered the Pussycat band I believed this beautiful song was from USA, from some American country singers or so 👍and I imagined they were sitting on the river Mississippi under the blue sky and singing with their banjo guitars. 🤗 Finally it is European singers in a garage or something. 😂 But never mind it is absolutly fabulous !!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

@@harrymitchell8909 Oh definitely not! Pussycat were from the Netherlands and most of their career was during the 1970s. Pussycat Dolls were an American group who actually started off as a dance group - their career started in the 1990s. Totally different.

Never get tired of listening to this. Love those harmonies 👍 Never been to Mississippi or indeed America but love these country ballads. Don’t know why but I always think of the song Country Roads when I hear this and usually listen to that straight after.

Stumbled on this as a recommendation and the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. In an instant I’m taken back to the Spring of 1976 when I was just 12 years old living with my Dad in Brunssum, Netherlands which is where the band originated from. Happy memories that bring tears to my eyes as I listen to the familiar melody. Where did my youth go?

We are the same age, I was also 12 in 1976. I´m in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Pussycat exploded with Mississipi and another song that deeply impacted me for life: If You Ever Come to Amsterdam. I was so touched for this song, its harmony, melody and lyrics that going to Amsterdam became a dream that I had to make it come true someday. And this day happened in June 2016 when I went to Utrecht for work reasons and I stayed in Amsterdam. Man, you have no idea of what it meant for me, a 51-year old man at that time that had dreamt of being there for 39 years!! Only two days and I went to all possible places. The city was more, much more than I had read, watched and heard about all my life. It seems you are in another planet or universe. When it was time to leave I found myself listening to this song the whole day and crying like a baby for hours. Thanks to Pussycat and their song I have been able to know the most incredible and wonderful city in the world!!

Many deep memories of domestic upheaval when this came out. As a screwed over sailor being away from my kids for months on end, this was the song that was being played almost constantly, and it saw me through it all the darkness that enveloped my life. I still feel an almost real feeling of close familiarity with their song. Thanks for the memory. I am alive.

Exceptional band I have been listening to them less than 10 years as I had never discovered this band prior. So gifted and such harmonious voices. Blessings to all of them.
