Bonelli's Eagle - Pole Lure Training with The Colonel
Спорт
The Colonel - Male Bonelli's Eagle, parent reared in his fifth season.

This video shows two pole lure sessions, the lure is used once or twice per week maximum in between hunting sessions. The wind on these sessions was between 40 to 60mph. I'm constantly observing his flight style and analysing his condition and determination to see what areas need tweaking to keep his confidence levels high. It's a great tool for footing practise, teaching speed of turn so he doesn't anticipate his preys movement, allowing him to reach his full potential and fly as if wild.
This combined with the Bull-X remote lure machine and hunting most days keeps his kill transfers good and aggression is taken out on the lure, his fitness levels are high and body condition at a level 5 barrel chested. This allows me to feed high calorie food and give good crops most days.

Many thanks. You get out what you put in. The pleasure of watching an Eagle living a life like his wild cousins is unbelievable. He’s flying over 100 miles most weeks. Regards Nigel

@@hawkinsfalconry that’s very impressive. Unfortunately not many falconers have this level of commitment and attention to detail. You are a great source of inspiration! Cheers!

Yes totally agree. If they don’t have sufficient time to dedicate then they shouldn’t be doing it. The simple question I always ask people that imprison their birds is: What would you want to do if you were the bird… ? Thank you Nigel
Glad youre back and posting again mate.

Had a season off to recharge and enjoy the flights instead of getting stressed trying to video them all. I might start videoing again next season thanks.
I have been privileged to have been on a experience with Nigel and his birds and it was amazing, have me a real appreciation for the commitment he has and the opportunity to witness the eagle and his Harris hawk working cheers 👍
