The Trail Gang
Director: John Rich
Writer: Carey Wilber
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
Genre: Western
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 26 November 1960 USA
Filming Locations: Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
Storyline:
"About to set out on a cattle drive, Ben hires a young drifter named Sam Jackson as one of his drovers. What he doesn't know is that Jackson is really outlaw Johnny Logan, who signed on to the drive because he knew it was going to pass near the town of Waycross, and Logan is determined to kill the Waycross sheriff--who is his father." Written by frankfob2@yahoo.com on IMDb.com
Reviews:
"Characters involved: Father and son - John and Johnny Logan.
Main Characters: Hoss and Ben Cartwright. Little Joe and Adam are MIA.
For some odd reason, land tycoon and probably one of the richest men of his time is doing his own cattle drive with Hoss. He's desperate for hands and hires some with questionable reputations. Along comes a young man who seems really nice and all, but he was in prison and now wants to kill his father for putting him there.
The episode was a good one. There's a good lesson about tough love and accepting your family's mistakes and all. The characters were believable.
One thing about having an episode with a lot of character actors is watching several different of our baddies coming together to be bad and good. Every episode is unique, but it's nice to see the actor's character seems to have a lot in common show to show. Good episode.
1 dead." Written by mitchrmp on IMDb.com
"This Bonanza episode has Ben Cartwright and Hoss taking a herd of cattle from Texas back to Nevada where they run into a town that has one strict sheriff in James Westerfield. I'm guessing the pickings were mighty slim in the way of trail hands because he hires veteran western heavy Robert J. Wilke and his crew to drive the herd back to the Ponderosa. The only one not with Wilke is trail cook Edgar Buchanan.
Also with Wilke is young Dick Davalos who like Wilke has a grudge against Sheriff Westerfield and wants to shoot him on sight. Davalos is a mean kid with a chip on his shoulder and Westerfield is his dad.
I think you see that this has the ingredients of a shooting showdown and the episode delivers. Edgar Buchanan as the foxy old reprobate cook really delivers in his scene stealing performance. He's worth the episode all by himself." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

If you change "fabulously wealthy" to "enough money to live on", that's my adoptive parents. They were awesome, and I miss them, we didn't have monetary wealth but we had everything else, and that's the best inheritance they could ever leave me. ❤️

at 3:02 Cook Hicks was singing "Old Dan Tucker" that Laura used to love hearing Mr. Edwards (Victor French) sing to her on Little House on the Prairie. Since that show came after Bonanza I guess Michael Landon stole it from here. The cooks acting was on point, especially when he was really wild and drunk shooting his gun off in the saloon., Interesting that Hoss says how he took Little Joe from the town every night over his saddle when the series has never shown this happen. This was a pretty good episode but it suffered from the bad writing that most Bonanza episodes have , that the criminal behaves incredibly stupidly at the end so someone can die and get the plot wrapped up quickly. Even if Brazos had a big grudge against sheriff Logan he's not going to murder him in cold blood in front of a town full of witnesses making himself a wanted man and probably getting himself hung. At the end Ben just rides out leaving the town in ruins, again. Who's going to pay for all those damages?

There ain't no Bonanza cult, we are all forms of people that simply love good videos of fun creation. family love, good guys, nemesis guys, and beautiful women that good guys attract. And an Alpha male that doesn't take no shit off anyone, Ben Cartwright and his loyal son's that back his play every time and do their own very well, by following in the fabulous Fathers wishes, good nature, his integrity, honor, and good humor.

Felt sorry for the dad/sheriff. He was trying to do right with his son but just wasn't real good at it. His love for his son made him too heavy handed. But it worked out well with no one killed except the scumbag who instigated everything.

There's no excusing sending an innocent man to suffer in prison for a year, especially when you're his father. That's just evil. It's probably his 'heavy handedness' that Johnny was rebelling against in the first place. The scumbag that instigated it is the sheriff himself.

Yes, I have NOTICED alot of recycled scenery on Bonanza as well as the BIG VALLEY. I wonder if both shows were filmed on the same land using the same calves. I think i've seen JARROD Barkley's horse on this show. Jarrod's horse has a very blockish white mark down the front brow to nose of the horses head. I've seen the same guest actors and actresses from Bonanza on the Big Valley. It would only make perfect sense if they recycled the actors that they would the animals and town props as well. Actually PETER BRECK was on BONANZA as a guest star and then later got the lead role as NICK BARKLEY on The Big Valley. So, it's probably the same horse.
