Bolt Action Tutorial: How To Paint WW2 German Grey Camo - Panzer III
Ойындар
Welcome to the second video in the Straightforward Tanks series where I show you how to paint WW2 tanks using nothing but an aerosol primer, normal acrylics paints and brush techniques. This time I show you how to paint German grey camo using a Warlord Games Panzer III as a subject.

+IDICBeer Thanks bud
The look for the effort is amazingly high here, this will come in handy, thanks!
Just discovered your videos and they are very informative. I have been wargaming for over 40 years and am always open to the kind of helpful techniques that you show. Thanks very much...oh and I thought your reply to the "rivet counter's" rather rude comment was very diplomatic. Cheers

Straight to the point and spot on. Amazing and Motivating. Thanks!
Very good video. Easy steps, easy instructions and great result. I look forward to using this on my Tiger tank :)
Fantastic! I plan to follow your method for painting my Warhammer 40k vehicles in my Deathkorps of Krieg and renegade guard armies!
Brilliant! this is both the simplest & the most effective tutorial I have watched. Well done

This is great! Straight up and to the point. Thanks!
Just stumbled upon your channel. Love these tutorials, wish I had found them a long time ago! New sub too!
This is exactly perfectly everything i needed and looked for. thank you.
I love this tutorial and I was rather curious as to how you could achieve this camo scheme with your M18 Winter Camo Video
Thanks for the great vid, I have a panzer III platoon to paint for my Operation Barbarossa army and this will allow me to get them done so much faster.

Subscribed!!! Nice work yet again!!!
Very good technique for wargaming - fast and easy. Good work!
Excellent tutorial. I have been going round and round in circles trying to get exactly what I need for my early war Germans and you have nailed it for me! Cheers! Now what about the troops?
Thanks very much for this series. I've been put off painting my growing pile of armour as just about every tutorial seems to insist that an airbrush is the only way to go - this proves otherwise. Great stuff, keep them coming please.

Gracias, un trabajo muy bueno. Gracias a este video he aprendido a pintar los vehiculos alemanes, sin aerógrafo, al fin alguien lo hace, Muchas gracias. Thanks, a very good job. Thanks to this video I have learned to paint German vehicles, without an airbrush, finally someone does it, Thank you very much.
What a wonderful grey ~
I'm going to try this technique on my artillery as well as vehicles.
Very late to the party but this is a great tutorial that still really holds up! Any idea on how to replicate this with citadel paints? I assume spray mechanics grey, wash nuln oil, but then not sure what to highlight? Thanks again!!
how long did the weathering actually take you to do? it turned out awesome! i have been painting and weathering tanks and armor for 20+years and that looks amazing!! great effort, nice work!!
Really nice grey, I might be tempted to use this on space wolves instead of you pre Hersey tutorial so I can use ap paints. Might have to find some additional highlights to finish them though.

+Grey Deathangel Various mixtures of Uniform Grey, Ash Grey and Matt White should allow for a good range of highlights
You did a beautiful job
nice work keep up the good work
He he he he how easy was that. Another fantastic vid thank you and I look forward to the next 100 :)
That was Some werry got 'fifs you gave there. Well done 👍
Great job
Nice video! That little model looks amazing... can you do yellow multi cam german tanks?
Hi, can you use a dark tone wash insted of the ink? Thank you
Could we use the same method to do infantry, too? I'm getting into BA but the thought of painting thirty german uniforms fills me with dread!
Superb!
Excellent vid .....tempted to buy a tank model and give it a go

For quick paint job using just brushes this is great. As an alternative one could paint the tracks a dark silver and wash with the brown.

+VT ViewfromtheTurret Yep that's good suggestion. I personally went for the all over brown to represent accumulated mud.
Great, thank you very much
Thank you PETE!
THANK YOU! I have spent a week trying to learn how to paint my tank grey, and I found your video!! Thank you sooo much! I started modelling and painting two weeks ago, so i have 0 knowledge base. This video will forever be bookmarked and used for my German army! Thank you!

+TWG Yes, It was a tough choice between the British and Germans, but I fell hard for German Armor, and now I've started my Bolt Action campaign. I received my own Panzer 3 last week, assembled it, and have been trying to find a way to paint it ever since.

+TWG Thank you very much! is there any similarities between Army Painter and Vallejo? I have lots of one, but less of the Army Painter.
I'll be doing all my early and midwar germans like this as I love the classic grey look, even if it's not historically accurate.....sacrilege I Know!
Could you please tell me what these colors are in Vallejo?
Excellent video!! Could you please consider doing a tutorial on painting WW2 Russian tanks using Army painter paints in the same manner (i.e no airbrush, special paints, weathering products) I need to paint a bunch of them for Flames of war. Awesome work mate.
Does this method work for larger models? I'm thinking of buying a Warhound Titan model and painting it like a German tank in Panzergrau colors as seen in the video.
Thank you
if paint were to chip off it would reveal a red oxide colour like rust because that is what the Germans used to prime their vehicles. Just a bit of a nitpick. nice tutorial.

6 year old comment so prob useless but another very small pick would also be that the iron cross on earlier war tanks didn’t have the black inside?
In the list of paints there was skeleton bone, did I miss where that was used?
Hi, good morning. What paint do you use to prime the tank?
Could something like this be applied to larger 1/16 scale models ?. 🙂
Goodnight. Could you let me how to paint (lights and shadows) in German uniforms that are dark gray (without airbrush).
tanks this helped me
Great video! Do you paint Africa corps? DAK? :)

Am I right in thinking this suits your blue/grey'ish german scheme ?
do you paint the tracks on brown just for contrast? or theirs another reason. i like though.
@PeteTheWargamer
7 жыл бұрын
I go for brown as tank tracks often became caked in dried mud which would make it difficult to see the metal beneath. It gives them a more weathered look.
I use the Army Painter stains to high lite and protect my vehicles, by chance would you know what type of effect that would have using the dark tone ink with a covering of the light stain in regards to the darkness of the tank. Thx
@PeteTheWargamer

You could use the Dark Tone Quickshade over the Uniform Grey. This would probably give you quite a dark but also quite a realistic finish.
@JudexDirus

I thought of that, but I only have light and strong...... and another 30.00 for just one kit would be a little over kill... Ill test it on the bottom and see how it works out. Thanks for the reply and the great videos.

Great! I've got a Churchill and Cromwell that I'm wanting to paint. I'm not the best at painting though, so I like the simplicity in this video. Perhaps you could make one of these simple tutorials for the Cromwell and Churchill (preferably the Cromwell, it comes in the "Starter Army" for Bolt Action British Army.)

very nice vid. but brother, did u say, that u mixed the colour with 50% WATER??? i was looking some tutorials before this video and thought, that i need a professional wash or at least some turpentine?? if this works I will also use water!
Anyone know what the Vallejo equivalents are?
Never knew it can be this easy.. LOL dont even primer! Good tutorial!
very nice! Alternatives to the inks? I have Nuln Oil for example, could that work as well?

Yeah don't thin your paint so much, also move your airbrush around. If you keep the airbrush pointed at a spot it'll cause pooling

Hey brother, hope all is well. Team yankee bro, team yankee
Warthunder brought me here.
Wrong color tone. Dunkelgrau was a very dark blueish-grey color. The RAL color system is pretty specific. www.autolackcenter.de/media/images/ral7021-large.jpg
@PeteTheWargamer
8 жыл бұрын
+ancientsociety79 If I had wanted to be 100% historically accurate then yes RAL7021 would have been the correct choice to use. However, the colour tone that I have used (even if it is technically incorrect) has been widely accepted as the standard 'German Grey' , especially when it comes to miniatures. A quick google search of Panzer Grey will return a Panzers in a wide variety of hues and shades of grey. Besides if we really wanted to split hairs here, dunkelgrau is literally translated as dark grey which is what I painted the tank in. But thank you for commenting anyway.

+TWG Good video, thanks. I also agree that the end result on the table is important. I tried painting two models in the 'official' Dunklebrau and found it far too dark for the miniatures. Your approach is a good compromise, and I have painted up my own Panzer using the method. Great result!

The War Gamer Some people don't understand this is for gaming, not a scale replica (but there's always 1 'experten' in the bunch - lol). Besides, no way the 'real' colour is good in this scale.
Italeri..... Well, I don't like these Kits.
