The incorporating of the map vote to the home screen has been IMO one of the best change the devs made. Before it was like 50 hardcore AOE2 purists who held all the control and never allowed any novel map concepts. IDK who could wver think that was better for the game. By having more variety and community input you’re going to maintain a stronger player base.

totally agree. Arabia and Arena aren't going anywhere so it's awesome to get wackier starts and see more of the numerous map types that are underutilized by the online crowd

The funny thing is that those purists used to complain on the forums that too many whacky maps were voted in and that things would be better if the map voting got moved to ingame! Of course, this only lead to *more* whacky maps being voted in.

Yes as a low elo player I vote for the weird maps Ive never played before, and enjoy the different games. It feels like a bit of uncertainty on both sides is more interesting then the standard meta on Arabia or Arena etc

I agree with the idea youre stating but these hybrid shallows maps are the wrong representation for the game imo. The relationship between navy and army units is still so convoluted, there are tons of bonus damage relationships that i guarantee even T90 doesnt know about. They actually addressed a few of them in the upcoming April giant patch (bonus damage to camels from ships if i remember?) but there are still things that need to be fixed so players will understand what they should be making to counter what when ships meet land army. Example: few players know that spearmen get bonus damage against some (all?) ships. another weird interaction its hard to find exact data on but its definitely there. Leaves too many situations where youre gonna get wiped by units that theres no reason you should lose to. At lower levels if you dont care, fine, but at higher levels there are strategies being developed and people care about their ELO and its janky to have these wildcard maps that just shift the meta entirely with little intelligent thought behind the relationship between units that rarely ever meet on the battlefield

Me and my friends picked up the game again a month ago and 20 games in we were SHOCKED to realize there is a frickin SECOND PAGE in the docks, lol!

feudal galleys, fire galleys and demos are all upgraded together with the galley upgrade. I think that the best they could do to make it a little bit more intuitive for newer players without changing the game would be to make it so that the upgrade icon should appear beneath all three of them. You click any of those 3 upgrades and you upgrade them all

watch some of the older videos of T90 to see how much he's grown! such perfect casting now, amazing! I don't even play the game much but I like listening to this guy, such intelligent and friendly casting, not to mention the life stories :))

1200-1300 elo here. 300+ ranked games played. Did not know war galley also upgraded fire ships 😂

The issue with the older videos (like 5 years or older) is not that it's not entertaining, it is. The issue is that your voice sounds like a completely different guy xD

T90, I’m a true LEL. I bought this game maybe a year or so ago after one of your streams came up on my suggested. I’ve followed your KZread stuff pretty closely since. I’ve even watched your video about how broken the dock menu is- AND I STILL GET CONFUSED BY IT. I don’t comment ever, on any videos. But, yeah, something has got to change.

If I'm not mistaken in the past you only had access to fire ships once War Galley was researched, so in my mind it still makes sense to add previous version of those for early game and then get them upgraded in the same exact way. Of course I would agree that not having individual upgrade techs is bizarre to say the least since that's how the rest of the game works, but it doesn't really bother me, it's cool to know that the game is being supported and evolving compared to the Forgotten days, maybe they will do something about it in the future

Would add, great strat is to sneak early demos into the back of the enemies base and let them chill until they expand into them

I can understand the fire galley / demo raft upgrade being confusing, but I never had trouble with the dock's 2nd page. I was able to figure it out at 11yo when AoE2 came out. Then again maybe people don't play the tutorials anymore.

Right, it's as simple as wondering what the arrow button does on the dock. It's not intuitive, but it's not exactly rocket science either.

Regarding the dock: If devs want to keep the two pages, I'd say put the eco ships on page 1 and the military ships on page 2

Ever thought about making a video every time the new map rotations come in to go over each of the new maps and metas?

i absolutely love the tropical setting and water/island stuff but actually playing it is horrendous and odd so many different routes you have to check and pathing you cant build on swamp but walk there, ships on "land" is weird, etc.

Oh my... These odd scenarios produce so much fun in your hands its incredible...

The good thing about this map is that low ELO legends won't get gebaited researching heated shot.

@T90Official the dock thing you mentioned that the war galley tech also upgrades your demos and fires messed me up as a returning player from the Age of Kings days. Back then, each ship had a separate tab under it to make the elite versions, but now all of them have been consolidated into a single tech that is confusing. It wasn't until I had played a bunch of games before I realized this was the case, and I thought fire ships were still fire ships by default (not the weaker fire *galleys*) for awhile too. I probably should have paid more attention but it's not the most clear thing to even returning players tbh

I tend to find the second page of the docks midway through a water game, swear profusely, remember it for a couple more games and then forget it as soon as I don't play a water map for a few days. Considering I only play a couple times a week at most, I don't often make demos or fires. I did know about the war galley upgrade applying to all the ships because I read the lil tooltip they put on it one time and remembered that but I usually just assume I'm playing a civ that doesn't get much navy.

T90 maybe those most common ships are on the second page because you'll likely use a keybind for those, whereas the specialty ships need to be easily accessible for mouse clicks.

I was watching a lot of sotl videos and they talked about byzantine bonus fire galley firing speed. I assumed it was a byzantine special, Greek fire and all, but uh....there's that second page lol. It was probably my second or third water map I found the second page. Of course I mouse over all the icons to see what the dock could bring me. I did play 15 years ago but I never did a lot of navy action. Edit: to t90, I had the same question about watching matches from say the internet when I'm out and not at my pc. Or my phone, taking a lunch break. Thanks for answering!

Red got literally every upgrade in the game except the important ones haha. Something tells me he got random'd italians and doesnt know that genovese exist.

Blue could've also had some fun making kipchaks for the pikemen.

As for movies, John Wick 4 was AMAZING. Best one of the 4.

I wish they would do one upgade for imp ships too I like that they cut a lot of the expense of navy it still could do with being cut down a bit even futher (exept bombard)

If they just change the War Galleys tech name to perhaps War Ships, may make a little more sense. It's pretty easy once you know how it works though.

Yea I made a comment on your last upload about how I couldn’t figure out how to upgrade my fire ships. I’m on Xbox and we have different menus. It’s just a wheel with no second page and it doesn’t tell you how to upgrade them. Someone responded and told me how and it says it in the tech tree but I had looked around but the way they have it setup on there is not intuitive at all.

So this was basically an Arabia game as they ignored the water haha. Good fun.

I still say the dock should be removed and replaced with two new buildings one for making civvie ships like fishing ships, trade cogs and transports and the other to make the military units

I usually vote for a new map, because playing the same things can get tedious

Always sad to see Italians lose, because it's actually a really strong nation to play as, especially on water map, but it's always the player that cannot utilise them.

OHHH WOW! Big secret reveal from T90. We have a map here with 80% water. I will in my great wisdom tell you what to make. You need to make SHIPS! And also you need to discover that huuge RED arrow on the docks build page. What ever could that ENORMOUS red arrow mean. Not even the great Uncle got it so then noooone ever could right??? Couse it is not blinking in many colours and have a flashing text saying CLICK HERE! That makes it super unintuative doesnt it? I have very little respect for the one map clowns. The beauties of this game are many, and one of the biggest in my oppinion is the variation it offers. Two games are never the same. Lets keep it that way. I dont want this game to turn into Starcraft where maps are all the same. And also big trees are beautiful and theres NOTHING wrong with them. 😎
