Boeing 747-8 performs ultimate rejected takeoff
Ғылым және технология
It's one of the most dramatic tests for a new airplane as the pilot slams on the brakes while going 200 miles per hour (320 km/hr). Watch as the 747-8 Freighter, loaded to maximum takeoff weight and equipped with 100% worn out brakes, perform a rejected takeoff without thrust reversers.

That test engineer had a bow tie on
Those are some amazing brakes to stop 975,000 lbs.

wonder how much it costs to replace all of the brakes, tires and wheels on a 747? Its like $750,000 on a 777.
What if the runway was wet?
I find it hilarious seeing firefighters watching a fire before being allowed to put it out
It's incredible that one of the oldest jets out there is still getting updated as it's almost the face of Boeing! Still an impressive piece of tech!

Most of the developments for the 747-8 came from the 787, which in turn shared development with the 777 (and future 777X), which is why even though it's not a good seller, it generally isn't much new technology except for a stretch.
She will always be the. Queen. Of the skies.. And still beautiful

As a passenger of the 747, I appreciate this kind of testing muchly.... Great video and great test....
Dear Boeing, please continue the 747 line. Classic aircraft!!!
It still is the Queen of the Skies, sexy, amazingly capable and beautiful!
The only brakes that could be hotter are the rear brakes on a 4 door 1974 holden after a narrley aussie burnout

+BayMechanic1009's Channel! Thats spelled gnarly, actually. And which 4 door Holden exactly? And why 74? I assume you mean a Monaro as four door Toranas were not the kind of car that people used for burnouts. More so taking the kids to school? You have no idea. Stop it. Its embarrassing.
what beautiful plane!!!
Well thought out, particularly the tire deflation. It's amazing how it took many aircraft accidents, across all brands and models, to reach this point. Industry is a funny thing: do the minimum, get sued for mistakes, and then produce a corrected product. It works the same in nature except that instead of litigation, there's extinction.
the most beautiful air plain on EARTH.
Since Drum breaks are the most efficient way to stop heavy weights. The action of the drum on the shoe causes the shoe to press tighter onto the the drum. Its called self energizing. The reason its not used in cars is because cars use their breaks over and over in quick succession meaning that the drum can over hear reducing breaking efficiency. Airplanes don't use their breaks that much, so its not a problem.
Like if you think the 747 is the sexiest plane in the sky.

Remarkable Aircraft! Can't wait for an opportunity to be on board!
I have to say; Boeing takes a lot of care and maintenance testing in those air planes! And that's the kind of service I would want on their airlines 👏🏻
I love how many subs Boeing has. So satisfying.
2:26 the guy on the left hand sight has a love kiss on his neck
Well then.....thats a pretty solid aircraft.
The a380 can still stop using thrust reversers and other stopping systems. Thus its certification. The 747, in the event of an engine failure (where reversers may not function) can preform an RTO as above.
That's respectively mph and kph. In knots, that comes down to 175 since it's based on nautical miles.
Just Awesome plane...
Way to go, Boeing!!!
Perfect!
Awesome, looks like a very nice airplane.
Those are the most epic brakes I have ever seen O_O!
imagine how much money goes into just building one aircraft...and then all the testing needed
I can't wait to hear about or see an A380 or A350 XWB attempting to land at the airport in Bloomington, Illinois. I've heard about 747s doing it though that airport is designed primarily for A320s and 737s. 747 brakes work exceptionally well, as this test proves. She will always be queen...
I wish more airlines bought the 747-8
Make a video on developing and changing the 747!
Great stuff
And the Test manager's name is Hammer.
He's Captain Kirk, of the Boeing 747-8, not to be confused with the Starship Enterprise, hehehe!
Those firetrucks looks ancient...
Dear boeing, I want this plane for christmas!!! :)
Amazing airplane. Iconic.
With Captain Kirk on board, this was a peace of cake ;)
Awesome video. I know that all 4 engines were running but at 1:28 it looks as if the turbofan engine is off because the blades don't seem to be spinning.
Very impressive!!
I'd like to test drive THAT!
I ''THINK'' that the flight engineers know what they are doing
Nothing more sexy than the slender long legged 757!
If its not Boeing, its not Going
how do you replace the tires now!?
How much would it cost for a set of new tires and brakes?
I'd give my right arm to fly in a jumpseat behind Kirk Vining. That would be a hoot.
Captain Kirk solves a physics problem!
Those tires got pretty hot quickly....
AND THEY STILL LOST OUR LUGGAGE !!! 😄😄
Nice!

748 is such a beaut, soo much more majestic than that bloated thing of an A380.
cool!!
muito bom, parabens
At what knots?
Looks so tense when the brakes overheated

"Slamming on the brake" reminds me of ABS.
@OpticQ Almost Tailstrike??? Thats a normal dayly freaking take off!
This is one of the brakes (breaks) you have to take to moce forward.
aircraft brakes are very good.
Still the best passenger jet EVER built ..THE 747s
@trio3d it says in the title the Boeing 747-800 series
the great dream of my daughter and travels in a plane that that penalty. but I realize that dream one day .. here in Brazil so in vontande ^^
do some 747 ones
all planes can RTO, however some planes have lower speeds for RTO's than others
Well yeah, Going so fast and instantly stopping the wheels of anything will have that effect. What is good though is the fact the plane's tires don't explode.
HOT BRAKES
This went WAY better than the A340 RTO. If it aint Boeing I aint going.
braking power courtesy of Hitchiner Manufacturing in Milford,NH for Goodrich...these don't have shoes like in your car, they are torque bars made of inconel that wear into the drums somehow. all i remember is we cast a crapload of them for Goodrich, from what i understand they only last a few cycles. all jet powered aircraft have Hitchiner parts in them. i dont work there anymore, but they do amazing things with very hard to handle metals. inconel is some seriously strong metal!
The 787 is so popular lots of other Boeing aircraft is looking like the 787 747-8 737 max 777x
OK,somebody get the rhino-jack...
The A380 can't do a RTO? how did it get certification?
Where was this filmed was it filmed at seattle,Washington the boeing place?

Louis Smith - Or rather the original concept for the 747 (and probably MD-12). Look for a national Geographic video "Megafactories - Boeing 747" or just search for this video: v=73mfHVDadug - The first 747 design in 1965 was a double decker. Once you find it, fast forward to 7:00 in (or watch the entire video if you want). A little after 8:00 they explain the first 747 design (double decker). It is fairly obvious that Airbus copied it, and obviously Mcdonnell Douglas was bought out by/merged into Boeing.
about 170 knots
cool
Can someone please tell me how they would change the tires on a plane with all flats out on a runway?

so huge wow what elses
This is one of the most scary test the aircraft must undergo... O.o I've seen test like this went bad..
do it when its raining i wanna see how well it does there also :P
Worst case scenario would be a wet runway with worn out brakes and a full load of fuel one would think?
