Boeing 747-8F goes on roller coaster flight
Ғылым және технология
A flight loads survey is often compared to a long roller coaster ride because of the sudden and dramatic ups and downs during the flight. And because of those extreme maneuvers, it is one of the most grueling tests for a new airplane, including those monitoring onboard.

Much Respect to Engineers!
Wow! I'm amazed at how any human being would do this voluntarily!! I swear I would either have a massive heart attack or just drop dead I'm terrified of roller coasters and only fly when absolutely necessary!
Ok... I just found another profession I will never consider. Amazingly beautiful plane though!

@HDaviator Good memory ... this is actually an update to a video we posted a couple months ago.
It was a privilege and an honor to operate the hydraulic presses for my father Edmund Lewis Weber owner of Weber Metal who supplied Boeing with hand forged aluminum parts not final machined. During the 1960's and 1970's

My belief is the BOEING company is the best manufacturer of aerospace and aircraft. I think the Apollo / Saturn V made a mark for BOEING and Weber Metals. My father spoke highly of the personnel who worked at BOEING for many years purchasing aluminum hand forgings.
Now I understand why they always tell us to keep our belt on!
Jesus..I knew being a test pilot was one of most dangerous job and they got steel balls..but I forget abt engineers in seats taking notes..they dont get enough credit, their nuts too.. everyone risking there lives every time they go up..crazy, think their was a tragic accident that killed all on board on a test run..
This video shows the plane taking off at the old Norton Air Force Base which is now San Bernardino International airport, I have seen this plane many times in the air around the area in which I live and it is HUGE.
None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm.
0:53 can't get over him saying that with the background lol
Fantastically more powerful, quieter, and even more efficient GE, Rolls-Royce, you got rick-rolled. I would be seriously concerned if an A380 did any of these maneuvers at maximum weight, so concerned I wouldn't be there. Think how many times this airframe has bee certified since the first in 1971?
What's that thing trailing behind the vertical stabilizer ?
The wing flex is awesome!
"What if the wings snapped off?" The wings are force-tested to destruction on the ground on other copies of the plane, so they know the wings can take many times more stress than they put on them in the air.
Can anyone explain me what's the reason to design that hedge of the engines in such a strange way? Reducing drag/noise?
What happens if the worst happens and these tests fail?!? what happens to the test passengers/pilots? How are they to survive?

KyKatRo That was my go to assumption... but im not sure how they would "exit" lol (yeah I thought about it a little too much) The reason I say that is unless they were able to get the plane at a jumpable height and speed, opening an emergency door would just suck them all out and to my knowledge, there's no rear hatch door. Ahhhh I wanna know!! hahaha!

gorgeous airplane!
Is there anything done like this for the passenger version??
im sure after years of the 747 being in service, and definitely during initial development in the 60/70s, they had a specific range of Gs for the aircraft to be able to handle so they wouldnt overdo any type of G test on this flight
Any power difference between 747 8f and 747 8Continental with concern of power?
Oh my god i love this plane! Someday I will be in the flight deck, then it will be my baby!:)
How many Gs of lift will it take to break the wings on a 747 and is it even possible to reach such condition e.g. a dive with a sudden pull up.
Great stuff !
Any specific problems?
yeah what was that for???
I wonder if they sell this Aircraft. Just interested to know what happens to it after all the tests have finished.
I know they are trying to test the air frame, but what if one of those tests fail and the wing snaps off?
747 all the way!!
Excelentes e impresionantes. todos los modelos.
The Boeing 747 has been, and still remains, the most beautiful Passenger aircraft in the world. Bar none. We have all seen the Airbus A380, inside and out. We have seen its capabilities and interiors and the whole deal. But is there really anyone out there that can say with a straight face that the A380 looks more beautiful than the Boeing 747? Okay, if you were a Limey or a Frog, from the EU, you might say the AirBus is #1. But, we know that would not be the reality. 747 Rules the skies!
Very impressive! Nice
Awesome video! I luv the 747! Liked! :)
Awesome!!
The Boeing 747-8I is not as big as the Airbus A-380, "The Spruce Goose", or the Antonow An-225. But it's still pretty impressive.
How many feet is this???
I love Boeing!!! I so want to be a pilot and fly a 777!!
This is why Boeing is the best in the skies.
the airframe has probably been tested in computer modeling over and over + Maybe miniature wings or airframes in a high speed wind tunnel and sensor will of course register over loading of the wings before they will be damaged
It looks really cool.
They say it can fit the same amount of people but remember that the 380 has two floors and not one and 1/3 like the 747 so that would be VERY uncomfortable to seat 500+ in one 747... I bit of greed from airlines in order to maximize but I its not nearly as big as the 380 I flew in it last week and truly its HUGE. :)
Awesome!
They did a test on the ground where they snapped the wing off..... Sure you can find it on here
nice flight sim
What if the wings snapped off?
Cool! But why are the flaps, spoliers, and landing gear all down in the animations showing the airframe performing maneuvers?
@brendanstanton7079
10 жыл бұрын
during test flights gear stays down, and they were probably testing the limits of the flaps and stalling with spoilers. I dunno, they are pushing the plane to its limit though
@MrCriticOfAll Qantas pilots don't call them Scarebuses. It's known as the A180. You bring it out of maintenance and then do a 180 degree turn to tow it back into maintenance. Dispatch reliability of the A180's is woeful at best, and after the engine malfunction last year it looks like Nancy Bird Walton may be written off as it's proving difficult to get a dispensation to allow it to fly to Toulouse where both wings need replacement.
bonito e impresionante avion
Nice!
@Boeing I have a question to go against the A380 are you planning for a new aircraft .or you could have extended the upper deck of the 747 all the way down the plane
that looks like fun....
how did they not get sick?
That wing flex tho

Fortunately I had the opportunity on July 25 to be in the plant of the Boeing Everett Tour the foundation of the future of the factory of Boeing, which saw the construction of the B787; B777 and B737 freighter, of which I am very proud because in calendas flew past the B720, B707 and Boeing 727-200 of this great American company for commercial aircraft. ASD
Тест Boeing 747-8F, по моему всем понравилось:)...
What if the plane breaks up in mid air isn't that kind of dangerous to put people in there while testing the aircraft?
imagine the wing snaps.....
They only test up to 2g i thought it can handle going through a storm
@givmi_more_w9251
8 жыл бұрын
+flameout12345 It can. When flying through heavy turbulence, pilots reduce the speed so when encountering a heavy updraft that increases the angle of attack (and thus lift) the wing stalls due to too low speed so the additional load doesn't rip it off. And a China Airlines Boeing 747SP once prooved that it can handle abuse up to 6Gs and stil land safely (look up China Airlines Flight 006).
Pilot puts on the gravity stabilizer.
lol what if they push it too far and it breaks what do you do LOL panic
The A380 is bigger in terms of seating, it carries about 500 whereas the 747-8 carries about 450-467 passengers. However, the 747-8 is longer and more fuel efficient.
That's the exact reason I avoid Scarebuses.
I saw my Dell Precision M2400 in there...
@priyonjoni lol nice
I love BOEING !!
Even though it says it not fun it looks like fun! Just look at their faces!!

the airbus a380 didn't have to do these tests?????? it would probably break anyway.

Alexis Carrington-Colby State of the art modern aircrafts have time and again breached the 'failsafe' system and i do not know how you can say 'they are prepared for such a situation'. Need not look further than engineering errors and also airline policy. For example, some video in here shows how an airline would recommend not loading the fuel tank in full resulting in vapour emanating from shallow fuel inside the tank coupled with sparks from worn-out copper insulation in the wiring beneath the tank which resulted in a 747 blown to smithereens in mid-air. So if something does go wrong I hope aviation industry/engineers would come up with something which would meaningfully tackle the current threats and make air travel a lot safer than it is now.
So, how many times did he say "the magic of flight" ?
