Bobi, the World’s Oldest Dog Is 30
When Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, celebrated its 30th birthday last year, Costa knew he had broken an almost century-old record held by an Australian cattle-dog that died at 29 years and five months in 1939. Costa got in touch with Guinness World Records, submitted all the paperwork and a year later Bobi was officially named the oldest dog on record. "It's a feeling of pride we can't explain," Costa, 38, told Reuters. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer explains.

He passed away this week at the incredible age of 220 years old. May he rest in peace!

Minimize kibble & canned food. Give a variety of appropriate homemade fresh food .
I lost my dog this past January. He made it to twelve, which is about what's expected for his breed, but I still wished he had more years. I hope Bobi has many more years ahead of him. It looks like he has a loving family taking care of him so I hope he gets the most out of it.
Bobi got the best life a dog could ask for. Always free, eating the best meals, no stress, living in a calm environment and always chillin

Biologically speaking the 7 dog years to one human year is mostly a myth. Dogs age logarithmically, so much faster than that in their youth, but slowing down by middle age and to a relative crawl by advanced ages.

average life expectancy of the world is 72 which doubled is 144. If we're going by the country with the highest life expectancy than it would be Japan at 85 which doubled is 170. So technically only a Japanese person could double their life expectancy and end up at 170 🤓

I’m sure you can also agreed that processed food that most dogs eat in developed countries will shorten their life expectancy. Bobbi was lucky for eating fresh food and I’m sure that helped him stay healthy and vibrant.

At his age it wouldn't be surprising to see some sort of illness or health condition slowing his heart, but no, he looks very healthy. Imagine seeing a 200 year old grandpa walking like a 40 year old... that'd be considered a miracle, but that's Bobi's everyday life. INSANE!

Unfortunately it was (and still is in many parts of the world) extremely common. Not everyone can afford to spay and neuter their pets, and uncared for kittens and puppies will become feral, spreading disease and hurting people. Feral dogs form packs and can easily kill humans. Its just not worth the risk. Its sad but there arent any great alternatives yet in a lot of places

I had to listen to the beginning when she mentioned his father "buried the puppies." I thought I didn't hear her correctly and thought she must have said he sold the puppies. That's nuts that she speaks about it as if it's nothing. Especially knowing that a lot of dog lovers would find this story. I'm happy he survived though!

It's not really unheard of for farmers or people of lower income disposing of new born animals when they can't afford them. You can't really just sell puppies/kittens, they usually need papers or to be a certain full breed to be able to be sold (besides, people won't just buy a mutt or a cat if it isn't 'special' because they believe all the hype in breeds.) My bio dad has a farm where people dump their dogs around and he takes them in, but it is not a sanctuary and in the long scheme of things, he is doing more harm than good. He doesn't get the dogs fixed or their shots, so it's a colony of diseased dogs just breeding, eating, and killing anything they can. He doesn't believe in putting them down and just hope that one day someone will come around, see a dog or two that they like, and take them or that they just wander around and find a new home/get hit by a car so he doesn't have to feed them anymore. Which one would you say is crueler? Killing newborns or letting them live a horrible life to be diseased, feral, and to get struck and then die painfully slow? That's why people need to fix their dogs/animals.

My grandparents used to have a farm in the 70s and 80s and was common practice to drown barn kittens in a bag, so horrible. :(

Looks better than my 14 year old Golden Retriever. As a dog person, it’s one of the hardest things knowing they can’t live as long as you but hearing this gave me some hope I still have some years with my sweet girl! Sending snuggles your way Bobi!

@@Nuttyirishman85 My Golden made it to 18 when all his legs and shoulder-blades completely failed and he couldn't even hold himself in sphinx position, and could only lay on the side without ability to move . Putting him down was rough knowing his mind was still clear and loving.

@@mygirldarby true, I stopped feeding my dogs pedigree or royal canine when my Doberman vomited the dog food. Now I only feed them boiled chicken mixed with rice and milk and they absolutely love it. Best food is the one we prepare on our own

My parents bought a cat when I was a newborn baby, so I grew up with him almost as a little brother. He hated me because I would do little child things to him until I grew up a bit and he finally warmed up to me. He made it until I was 24 years old before he finally let go. It was literally like my brother died. I can't imagine what the loss would feel like after 30 years.

And every interaction we have with anybody or anything including pets makes us fill by affection with them. Love isn't only based on either they're same species with us or not but rather grow from interaction we built with anything and anybody either with animals and plants or with humans (different degree of course but still either way it's affection)

Well for starters, he's probably not fed processed dog food. Raw fed dogs tend to live longer and have less health problems.

I've only had my latest boy for 5.5 years and can't bear the thought of life without him. My last dog was shared. Partial custody after divorce for the sake of the kids. My current dog is completely mine and I will be inconsolable when I have to say goodbye to him. I can see myself without a mate for the rest of my life. They've given me nothing but betrayal, But I can't ever see myself without a dog. 🦮
He looks SO good and happy for 30!! Still moving around and looking incredibly healthy for his age.

@@Babaloomi Yeah, my friend's dog recently got cancer and passed away back in October. Having never owned a dog, I looked up why they get cancer, and a lot of the results showed it came from the food. I have no idea what the hell is in dog food, but I hope it's not in cat food as well.
I can’t believe that the dog with a 12-14 year lifespan was able to live for an extra 18-16 years. That’s insane!

Once this dog passes, it would be a good idea for scientists to look into it and try to identify how he made it to double the life expectancy. There could be some valuable secrets found within this biological phenomena.

@@coolkat390 Dog could have won the genetic lottery too, but yea a good diet and keeping active/stimulated over his life probably helped. I always imagine farm dogs with jobs to do everyday living the longest.

Absolutely incredible. He's surpassed the average lifespan by almost sixteen years so far. I had a Chihuahua (Sasha) that lived to be almost twenty one. She pretty much grew up with me. I had her from the time I was a kid and even after I moved out on my own. Truly miss that little girl.

A while later my parents got me a surprise and gave me a new chihuahua that is remarkably identical to Sasha. Its as if she was reincarnated. From her looks to her personality everything is the same. So I named her Sasha too lol. People call her 2.0 hehe.
