Great video! I am on the learning-curve with actuators. I’m removing both of them off of my 1999 873 bobcat to install new seals. I think my lift issues are related to my 8-pin terminal on the lift actuator being soaked on the inside with fluid. I’m going to assume that actuator is trash, although it was installed by the dealer in October 2019 and only has 120 hours on it. I will be using your video as a tutorial as I disassemble this thing. Thanks Again for the detailed video.

Yay bobcat working. Checked the tilt actuator in the bobcat and it was at 2.35. Was able to take the back off the actuator in the machine reset it to 2volts,put it back together everything‘s great. So I never was able to see the end of the actuator if it went back into 5 mm after I put it in flush and it didn’t work. For everyone else’s information this was a 2002 753 With an old style actuator and adapter from factory. Which after setting to the flush did not work.So I’m guessing it should’ve been sent to the 5 mm in. Anyway, thanks for the help, great videos, you’re doing a great job!

Thanks so much for your help, was having a hard time finding info for my 02 t190 with Acs faults, was able to troubleshoot the weak tilt actuator and figure out the problem myself, a faulty tilt actuator and now unfortunately also a acs controller (burned it up while working the worn out tilt actuator back and forth after cleaning the internals of the actuator) So I would recommend replacing the actuator even if you get the actuator motor to free back up cause it may just cost you a acs controller too just my 2 cents for anyone else in the future.

Hi Brady, I'm working on my actuators again and pulled apart the troublesome unit, same as last time, tilt. I found the commutator was well worn quite a dip in the center of it so as I had nothing to lose, pulled it all apart and put the shaft in my lathe and very carefully turned the commutator. It turned out pretty good after all the cleanup of chips and cleaning the grooves. I also found 4 new motors online which I thought would work, newer part numbers than these old 2006 ones, but the shaft diameter has been turned down for the gear by Thompson so it would mean trying to turn it down to match which would be very difficult, still working on that, so instead I took the new brushes and brush holder from the new motor and put it on the old motor, they are both Globe motors. I could also try to find a new gear for the new shaft diameter. The motor seems 100% better, runs great, just not sure how long it will last with the turned commutator. The globe motor # I used is 403A6005-2, it is also 1/4" shorter as it has 1 oz. less torque. In your video you mentioned the latest style actuators post 2006 used newer type motors, not globe and that you were looking for a source. I am wondering if you have a found a source yet and if you have, could you share the p/n or link to it? I tried to pull a frame from your video to see the part number but couldn't get enough resolution to see it. If you share those numbers I will do some research to try to find a replacement. You saved my bacon! My Bobcat S220 tilt function failed today. Your video helped me determine the fault lied in the actuator motor. Resistance reading was infinite when it should be 3 ohms. I called my local Bobcat dealer who was no help other than telling me that even if I bought the new actuator from him I would still need to bring the machine in for calibration. When I asked him about performing a manual calibration he said 99 times out of a 100 it never works. So I thought no loss in trying. Removed the actuator and ok it apart. I had the later style with the globe motor which allowed me to remove the end cover to check the brushes. Mine still had plenty of life so I figured they hung up. Reinstalled the cover and tested on a 12 volt source. Cycled 2X and then failed. So I took it apart again this time removing the motor from the actuator. Used 400 grit sandpaper to polish the commutator and dress the brushes. Ran the motor several times, reassembled actuator using a USB cable cut down for my 5V ref. Reinstalled actuator and checked operation. Works great!

To start , great video. I have a 753 G, 900 hours always garage kept. I have 1 gen (with adapter spacers) I set the actuator flush, set pot to 2 volts. Now when I install the actuator, I have to extend the it out to put the pin into the spool. Press it back in to bolt up to the valve body. Now the signal wire (green) is reading 2.25 volts when tightend down. I am using the machine for a power source to adjust the pot. Turned on... AHC light comes on. Next I opened up again to adjust pot to 2 volts. At 2 volts closed pot up and turn key on (engine off) (no AHC light) press green button for BICS. Lift handle works, but the Tilt handle works then errors out. Turn key off and back on clears error but repeats AHC light comes on when tilt handle is used. With engine running I can get the bucket tilted back a little bit at a time. Do I have to take it to the dealership or might you have an idea to calibrate? The lift actuator, pot is working at 1.90 volts tried that setting also. When I purchased the Bobcat I also bought the manual, and it's interesting that the service manual only goes to page 60-120-10 and starts 60-130-1. If I spend the money to buy a service manual give me "all the pages" including the ones that say "dealer copy" . I got a hold of pages 60-123- 14,15,16 but it errors out with the AHC light.

Why did you open the actuator? It could be the actuator pot is giving a faulty signal or motor is not working correctly. I would swap actuator plugs and see if you get lift codes. Then put plugs back to normal and swap actuators around and see if you get lift codes. It's possible the actuator is just bad.

  • @Beagle869

@@tetradgroupThe original problem was tilt act was not working, . I checked wiring first by switching the lift with the tilt plug. Now the error was on the other handle. So I pulled the tilt actuator out and found the motor worked but didn't move the actuator. Found the set screw problem. the gear from Globe Motor came loose (set screw). Took apart motor cleaned the brushes and commutator. Dab of Lithium grease on the bearing ends of the motor reassemble So I put it back together using the line signal from the lift actuator (1.90 volts). The tilt actuator goes in and out, and the line signal goes up and down. But errors out, I just worry if I take apart the lift actuator then I would have 2 nonworking actuators. 2x the cost. I had tried swapping the lift and tilt actuators Thinking maybe there was a problem with the spool or valve body, no the problem there.

@@tetradgroup I have switched the potentiometers (lift with tilt and back) lift actuator works with either pot. The problem seems to be "the tilt" actuator "over strokes" (with either pot) 32-31. When out of the machine the lift will go out/in and retract back to a neutral position. Where as the tilt will go out/in and error 32-31 and stay there in the extended or retracted. The lift will works on the tilt spool (having put the tilt on the lift spool) but as soon as I start to move the tilt act (on the lift spool) groaning, starts to move, add a little more handle, then it goes, and over strokes to error . I have opened the worm screw the worm screw and the bearing are good, I did not see any flat spots. Looked for egg shaped holes ,none. But that would not account for the out of machine test. 1.Motor working both directions.... Check 2.Worm screw in and out no flat spots and bearing good, smooth in and out...Check 3.Adjust pot to 1.60v, 1.70v, 1.80v, 1.90v, 2.00v, 2.10v. but still over strokes and errors out to 32-31 Resetting the act to a neutral position each time I'm ready to go to Atlas Bobcat in West Chicago and admit DEFEAT. I just hate not being able to fix something that seems to be mechanical. I used to install and wire railroad crossing, switches and, signals and trouble shoot them. I started in my dads auto shop at about 12 years old, fixing cars and motor cycles. Now I'm an operating engineer around Chicago. With all my experience I'm missing something. UGH!!!

So I went over what I did to the actuators. Thinking Pots are good, the worm screws are good (they measure within 1 tenth of a millimeter), the motors run... I have already switched the pots from tilt to lift, and lift act I can calibrate with either pot. So what if I switch motors? I disconnected the motors from the actuators to see if I can calibrate the lift or find something ? So I have both motor disconnected and I decide to power them up to see if one is spinning faster/slower than the other. Using a 6 volt lantern battery. They both spun forward and backward.... I realized they were spinning opposite , the polarity for the lift was clockwise, the tilt was spinning counter clockwise. So to shorten this up I , I switched the red wire with the black on the plug. Calibrated the actuators according to your "OH MY GOD... THANK YOU VIDEO" and it is working. Now my question would be , How did the polarity of the motor reverse? Did I do something? Did the machine? When I took the motor apart cleaned the brushes and commutator , greased the bearings, and reassembled it? The red and black wires are soldered to the brushes and the wires are glued to the side of the motor casing. I'm not going to lose sleep over what happen, but all I can say is, think about everything when working on things. Reverse polarity of a motor would not have been on my list of things to check... now it is. THANK YOU you saved me (if I did not have the calibration sequence) I would have had to buy new actuator $900 and another $70 for the aluminum spacer. Keep on thinking everybody.

M3253 is the code your having issues with and is not related to the actuators. The code is for right joystick X-axis out of neutral. If you have a SJC joystick machine you will need to replace the right joystick as this is an internal failure and not repairable. The other codes are for Regen issue and the dealer will need to force a Regen if you have the Kubota engine or Desox for the Doosan engine

I don't think the solenoid valve would have anything to do with it, for some reason the computer sees a failure and the lift actuator. It could be as simple as a bad potentiometer and the actuator in the computer doesn't know the position or the brushes and the motor can be going bad and just because the motor moves in and out on the battery does not mean it can move in and out under load hooked to the control valve. First thing I would do is follow the video and make sure the potentiometers working correctly.

Yes you have a spool seal leaking. If you just want to do the front spool seals it's not hard you can usually use a pic pop out the old one which will be a brown/tan color and replace it with the new style seal which is a green/turquoise color. I would recommend doing all four spool seals but you have to remove the spools from the valve. Still not a hard job just more in depth. The rubber boot on the motor is just glued on around the top but a little screwdriver or pick and spin it around the boot and it should slide right off the motor. If you do replace it you will be getting the updated motor which may require an adapter.

Hi Brady, Awesome video, great camera work and video quality, nice to find "how to" videos you can actually see. My 863F which I've had for 6 years is acting up again, tilt actuator again. I am heading to the job site tomorrow to pull it and repair/recal what I can. Just wondering if the "new" FLIP actuator is PN 7104842, and the adapter required for 1999 machine is 7101705? I bought my machine cheap from a gravel pit after they spent $15K at the dealership trying to fix the AHC. They gave up after 4 years of fartin around with it. I'm an electronics tech and had it working again within a few weeks after figuring out how it worked, but now I have no tilt at all after a minute or so of running. They put in the AHC update kit, new sticks, harness, controller (metal one 6675129) and multiple actuators over the years, still never worked for more than 6 months at a time. I'm hoping this time to fix once and for all. My other question for you is how do you calibrate the AHC system after replacing the actuators? Mine is the 2 LED on the left joystick, AHC only system. I know the SM states for testing to pull in the handles and turn off the key etc..., just wondering if that is the calibration sequence as well? Oh, and finally, the manual states the centered voltage should be 1.72 for my vintage, have you found that to be correct for first gen AHC or should I use 2.0VDC? Thanks for all you helpful videos, great work. cheers

  • @tetradgroup

    @tetradgroup

    Жыл бұрын

Those are the correct part numbers but I would think if the AHC update kit has been installed then the new actuators and adapters would have also been installed. You will not be able to calibrate the AHC system unfortunately. I use the 2.0V with the measurements provided and works well. If you have issues you can try to back off to 1.72 and see if that helps but 2 should be fine.

OK, well I think we have a good news/bad news scenario, I'll let you tell me if it's bad or tolerable. I dismantled the tilt actuator and found not bad brushes but sticky brushes, not sliding freely in the holder and not making contact with the comm so I dismantled the motor and polished the commutator and cleaned up the end plate/brush holder and it freed up nicely, motor spins perfectly now every time. I calibrated it per your method and it all seemed fine, until I tried push/pulling the actuator to see the output of the hall sensor, it's over stroking in both directions, ie rolls past 5 back to .4VDC or so, same the other way, goes past 0 and up to about 4.5VDC. The ball screw has some play, more than the lift actuator but it is free. It has about .5mm play in/out. I tried for an hour to center the sensor better but it still over strokes in both directions. Can you please confirm if the controller will still be able to deal with this, I imagine the hydraulics don't need the full 1.14" stroke?? The good news is the lift actuator didn't really need anything but I buffed up the commutator and adjust the 5mm depth to 2.0 VDC and this one doesn't over stroke at all, it's perfect. I also figured out why your 2.0 VDC method works perfectly, and replicates what the service manual states (at least for my 2000 F series). You use 5VDC and set it for 2.0V at 5mm, the manual states the center value should be 1.72V but that is testing in the machine connected to the controller, and as the controller is only putting out 4.3VDC, 1.72 corresponds perfectly to 2v at 5 volt supply. I adjusted my power supply to 4.3 and sure enough, 1.72V. Yeah! I imagine the 5V would only be seen when the float is activated. Anyways, hope you can tell me all is good with my sloppy actuator and I don't have to spend $1400 for a new one...I saw somewhere that the ball screw can be serviced but can't the info. I tried removing the outer cover like the motor cover but no go, I didn't want to break anything until I checked with you. I wanted to get your opinion before I put it all back together. Thanks Brady!

@@kilohertz684 not sure how well it will handle the slop but it will not roll over due to limited stroke of spool once it is hooked up. I pulled the actuator (Marine style connector with spacers) and tested it at the machine. everything seems to work as it should (no twitching). The measurement I got at the machine was 7.32mm. Sounds like you have a floating, belt drive actuator. You may have to pin it to the valve and either take a measurement while mounted to valve or set voltage and bolt head on while actuator is mounted on valve.

@@nickdarling9557 Make sure lift arms and tilt bucket are secured. Leave the covers with the pots off, attach your actuators to the spools, now tighten them to the valve body. They should be close to centered , you can check this by putting a socket on the nut on the worm screw. You will know when you are at center by twisting left/right (the spring on the spool is self centering). Now you have found center, plug the actuator in to the machine. Turn the key on (my AHC light comes on but you will have power ), connect multi meter +(red) to green signal wire and - to black ground , set pot to 2 volts and close her up. I recommend just putting 3 screws in the pot (in case something is wrong) shut off ignition, seat bar down, turn on ignition (machine not running), press operate button. Actuators should work in and out.

Do you have a fault code or do you have the blinking light in the left joystick? The dealer could check the actuator performance if you have a G series loader. If you have an earlier model with the lights in joystick the dealer will not be able to check the actuator and would probably replace it after some troubleshooting

if you remove the five Allen head screws on the backside of the actuator you will have access to the gear set, you should be able to spin the actuator screw by hand or with a screwdriver or maybe even with a pair of pliers to extend the actuator. I have seen extreme cases where you may have to use a sawzall and cut to the actuator in half to get it off the stem.

32-39 is lift actuator not in neutral. When you removed the lift actuator, the lower one, inspect the pin hole in the spool to see if it's egg shaped, also move the spool in and out with some vice grips and make sure it moves freely in and out and springs back to center with no binding. Swap actuators and see if code changes. When you have the actuator out move the ram in and out and make sure it's not binding, sometimes lubrication in the slide will buy some time.
