Bob Dylan Tight Connection to My Heart, New York City, the Beacon Theatre Oct. 19, 1990

Музыка

Performed during the final show of Dylan's 5-night stand at NYC's Beacon Theatre, Oct. 19, 1990, this version of Tight Connection to My Heart is one of only 14 times Dylan has played the song live to date.
Another performance was June 2, 1990 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada, also available from The Casper Collection.
It's interesting to compare the two and the difference four and a half months made.
As far as Dylan's appearance and condition at those 1990 Beacon shows, I'll just quote his own words and leave it at that:
"There are things I could say but I don't
I know the mercy of God must be near"
And thank God, it wasn't too far off!

“The flowers are dying, like all things do…” He can still sing, though. I mean REALLY SING!!! We should all be grateful for what we still have. November’s concerts were among the finest of Bob’s I’ve ever seen - and I’ve been to more than 200 since 1974.

"Oh yeah an' GE Smith was there, heez--aah...MAYkin' the SCEE--yeen Hold'n' TY--yeet on my musical TRAMP -- o -- LEE--yeen Else I WOOD-a bounced OFF'n crack m'SKULL 'gainst the MEZ-zah-NEE--yeen..." My very first rock concert: 14 years old, at Boston Garden (the original obstructed-view, rat tenement with the "peanuts-a-dime, 3 bags-fo'a quota" guy's voice echoing down Causeway Street. ...Not to be confused with its 3D-printed, cookie-cutter cereal bowl replacement arena, partially financed via the captive-audience economic model, with its rubbery $47 hot dogs and water-bottle-confiscation gestapo). The concert audience was top-heavy with inebriated/acid-tripping Hell's Angels, and every so often a tooth-chipping waft of fragrant top notes consisting of ...what... urine-washed denim, heart notes of soap-deficient armpit and base notes of leather and LSD-marinated Budweiser-breath. Thankfully, God, in His Mercy, intervened by commanding the awesome marijuana smoke-cloud to magically lower and vanquish the rapidly increasing nausea of those of us at ground level and which also gave me a jaw-dropping contact-high. Hey, I was only 14. Who knew that was even possible? Anyway, it was circa-1975, and Dylan was on his Rolling Thunder Revue tour with The Band (Robbie Robertson, Levi?Helm, et al). So, being a big fan of the most famous live-music ballbuster to ever grace a 20th century concert stage, I was rather amused as my very high, young self suddenly possessed a passing talent for lip-reading after spotting a red-faced graduate student-ish guy screaming up at the stage, "Motherfu**er!! Sing the GODD*MNED! FU**ING!! mmmMELODEEE!!!!!!!" as an oblivious Dylan, whose stylist had apparently been under the spell of a pre-French Revolution, white-powdered face, neo-cowboy, was tenderly shoving 'Blowin' In The Wind' through an industrial meat grinder. What a time to be a kid.
