    Have replied to a few comments on here but I'll just add my take at large here. Keeping 2 and 3 foot snakes in a shoebox is unethical. Keeping a blackthroat monitor (an incredibly intelligent species) in a space only twice his size (in mass) with only substrate is unethical. Its like keeping a dog in a dog crate it's whole life. Keeping grown 100lb sulcatas with grown 20lb redfoots is unethical. Keeping adult retics in a 6ft enclosure is unethical. Pioneer from 30 years ago doesn't dismiss practices today. We have a few pioneers who got with the times like Barczyk and Crutchfield and recently McCurly is making some big strides in getting caught up. Bob is not. Not all old heads are stuck in their ways. Let's rep those instead

    I'm in the OKC area and have been there 3 times for 3 of my most beloved Boas (2 amazing Leopards & a gorgeous Anery Jungle). Literally anyone who's been in the business this long has controversial things said about them. But I will (and have) defended Bob Clark (and Xavier!) and will always have their back. All 3 of my Boas from Bob Clark have been 100% healthy, strong and of excellent weight & temperament. They've answered emails and questions promptly and always offered to show me around. There's nothing "evil" or hidden about this man, he's a NICE guy who goes above & beyond and has beautiful animals. There's no way to please all people around the nation at all times. But how many people can say they've had had the same animal for *43 years*? From the bottom of my heart I thank Bob Clark for 3 of the most awesome Boas I've ever known ❤

    Being a pioneer in the hobby doesn't automatically make you a humane breeder. These poor animals are probably miserable in these small cages, no enrichment, hardly any space to move. The snakes can't even stretch out. As a professional breeder you should always be open to improving quality of care so your animals can thrive

    Not sure about that. My snakes are kept in tubs, however if you watch my videos, I am constantly talking about the need to take them out of the tubs, on a schedule, if needed. My animals have to be clean first and have an enriching/physically active life. They get so much exercise that they are probably stronger than I am. I agree with the enrichment, even if I am exhausted from playing with them…they are my babies. I am all they have. Love your reptiles.❤❤🐍 thx for commenting.

    For those that don't know, most snakes in the wild live in holes in the ground or are hiding in some kind of tight spot. That's how they feel comfortable. When in tubs they just need to be in a clean environment. Do your research before you talk.

    You have. To remember something about reticulated pythons. They don't all do well and big huge 8 foot cages. He could move some of those animals, but they may be won't do well. And I'm sure like the guy said. He went there the day after feeding. It's very hard to keep up everything. Clean, I'm sure Bob works very hard like he says. I own one Particulated python myself and it's never easy. Every day is a struggle, but we do it for the love of animals. Not everybody's facilities going to be perfect. But we have to do the best we can to keep up. I don't believe Bob Clarke would ever intentionally abuse his animals.

  • @LetsTalkHerps
    @LetsTalkHerps4 ай бұрын

    Thanks for this video. You and I disagree about husbandry and enrichment minimums, but I really love your excitement for these animals. Bob too! I have to agree with the comments made about the cages here as far too small. Bob has such an awesome facility and clearly works his a s s off to keep them fed and clean which is a monumental effort. If I could I would challenge Bob to rehome 25, 33, 50, or 75% of his collection and house those animals that remain in cages they can exercise and hide in. He can become one of the great champions for animal welfare (don’t confuse with “animal rights”). Thanks for sharing this video and thanks Bob for the tour.

    Was anything in this facility actually clean? Filthy, abysmal, undersized enclosures and bins. Appalled anyone would feel comfortable showing this let alone promoting it. Don't care if you're an OG - this is not ok.

  • @sphericreptiles

    I visited for days after feeding. Usually snakes defeated around four to five days after feeding. Some had recently did so. There was no foul smells and the animals appeared to be healthy. Not sure how big of an enclosure one would have to have, in order for OTHERS to consider them large enough? I don’t know. I promoted the video because I wanted to show the world that there are long standing breeders, from almost 50 years ago. Things have changed today, for keeping reptiles. Maybe there is a middle ground to keeping them. Thx for commenting.

  • @breezexotics

    @breezexotics

    @@sphericreptiles and I've visited multiple facilities after feedings that never once looked like this. I keep and breed reptiles as well, I have rack systems and understand how large operations work. It should not be a huge ask to have appropriately sized CLEAN enclosures as much as possible. From snakes that can't turn around in their tiny bins to a highly intelligent monitor living in the equivalent of a dog in a crate this just isn't right. Would you still be ok with it if they were dogs and cats laying in their own filth? Probably not. So why is the bar set so low for these reptiles? Defending this is defending poor animal welfare conditions and precisely why organizations seek to shut the hobby down.

    After reading the comments and watching the full video. I tend to agree with both sides almost to the extreme basis. Those boa’s and other medium sized snakes are without a doubt, held in far too small of tubs. But I have absolutely zero issue with tubs/racks in general (as long as you maintain getting the snake out to move as often as you can). But yea those tubs are damn near for hatchling ball pythons housing sub adult/adult boas. Also, can certainly agree lack of enrichment (the big snakes at least), lack of hides are… not fun to see. BUT! To give an analogy (which I’m sure will be wayyyyy off!), if this was how a poultry or even most rodent breeders kept their animals, we’d be saying they were doing it pretty ethically. Its all a matter of perspective for everybody, and I imagine once you get to a collection of this size, obviously for business reasons, it’s hard to maintain that many animals to your new reptile “bio active terrarium” standards. In the end. Could he be doing better? Without a doubt. Could he be doing worse? Clearly. As long as the animals are healthy, anything other than that is subjective. (Love the videos sir!)
