Bob Burnquist: BEING | X Games Minneapolis 2018

Спорт

Skateboarding legend Bob Burnquist shocked the masses when he walked away from Skateboard Big Air in 2017, saying that the future was in the youth’s hands. But he hasn’t completely wrapped up his skateboarding career.

That was Danny Way in his helicopter. In the video section he grinds the mega ramp handrail and then does a 720 down it. In his F'n helicopter.

Same here. I don't skate. I did try it for a while when I was a child. Never even learned kickflip (in my defense, I got a used skateboard from a friend who was to throw it out). Spent like a week of summer vacation to do it. Learned to jump in the air, but then the deck broke and was too poor. Anyway, that's not the story. I still watch the same run as an inspiration to me. The pure motivation factor is something crazy. Especially the music and Tony in the background makes it somewhat a masterpiece.

I don't skateboard. But even as someone wholly inexperienced in riding, the first time I saw that 2001 X Games vert run by Bob I knew I watching something special. Must have rewound 20x. I was gobsmacked by the flow, the art, the damn majesty of it. I've since watched a bunch of other amazing skating vids of greats in the sport, and they're powerful, dynamic, bold & lit. But none have moved me to the level of that one run by Bob. That's how you know Bob Burnquist is a LEGEND: even dummies outside your sport like me will watch that vid, feel the inspiration & realize they're witnessing a moment of greatness.

This is a great tribute to what BOB has done, but a small one. You guys at X-Games should have give him a proper retirement praise last year. All we had was that small interview at the end of the contest. He deserved better.

Fred Rodrigues It looked to me like he didn’t tell anyone that he was retiring until that moment. I guarantee X Games would have capitalized on his retirement had they known about it to boost their viewers.

Zacpack91 true. But they could have done a little more. He was the last OG of their event. The last one that has competed in every X Games since the very first one in 1995. And he's the all time leading Gold medalist now, beating the late Dave Mirra, another OG, in that respect. He deserved the absolute most they could do, even with their time being little 💯
