Had the pleasure of building that original vert ramp at Bob's. Plans were scribbled on bar room napkins, lots of cussing & smoking. Turned out to be one of the greatest half pipes ever for one of the greatest skaters ever. Now, it is cemented in stone, as is the memory of the good times building it with friends. Dave Ellis was the mastermind of the project ,we lost Dave over a year ago to leukemia. For me, that ramp is sort of a tombstone for Dave ! Agreed Pat but wrong analogy- icing on the cake is more apt for Dreamland. Then check both his and Braille's vids for mega board to board transfers- another layer of sponge with sprinkles. Incomparable and untouchable

Truly is, he still holds the record at x games for most gold medals but I think nyjah houston is almost tied with him

A couple of years ago my girlfriend and I stopped at a square here in Rio de Janeiro, for an ice cream. We went to check out the bowl and to my surprise Bob was there, practicing alone. He did things in that bowl that in twenty five years of going there I've never seen anyone do! It was amazing for an hour it was just the two of us watching the guy flying and cutting every bit of that concrete structure...

I was at the 2000 xgames in SF but we couldnt get seats to see the vert ramp 😭😭😭

Bob is one of my all time favorites. Him battling against Tony Hawk in every contest was good times as a kid.

Thanks mate. I too welled up at the beauty of Dreamland the first time I saw it, it's so aptly named. My first search on my first visit to KZread was Bob's Grand Canyon rail to BASE jump

1997 SOTY is a legend. I´m brazilian and I remember when he exploded in the international contests and I´ve just found his e-mail and wrote him. I was around 15 yo. And for my surprise he answered. That was a real inspiration back than. Thanks Robert Dean Silva Burnquist for all that you bring to the brazilian skateboard!

Often they can come off as simplistic or something but the dude is just DIALED... 2:12 front one with no grab is already one of the most terrifying things I could think of on vert, let alone doing it SWITCH over a channel. Pure fuckin finesse!

Can’t think of a better Cold Call. I understand and respect that Bob is done with being in the spotlight, but he’s one of those legends I wish I could see more of. His ‘In Transition’ part where he never grabbed his board a single time was a phenomenal last performance in professional skateboarding.

i was just talking to some younger guys about how i kind of met him before he went pro here in the us. i had just moved to houston tx and i was at the skatepark that was there back then. there was a lot of mini ramps at the front and a big vert ramp in the back that nobody ever went on. he went back there and lit that thing up and we were all like "who is this guy" now look at him.
