One of my closest childhood friends showed me this song when it first came out and I have been obsessed ever since. She was a dancer and would love to dance to this song. She loved to experiment with various levels of consciousness and did a lot of hallucinogens, constantly searching for the meaning of life. Then her bf got her hooked on something far more dangerous and he overdosed her one night... When she passed away from the overdose this time last year this song cut me to pieces, and still does. It only goes even deeper now, I love you amber. I hope that other galaxy you were constantly chasing after is everything we always dreamed of.

This might sound really silly but I sing this to my elderly cat every night, it started as a joke, but it slowly turned into a nightly thing, a few minutes every night to spend time with her, to pet her and give her kisses. She seemed to like it, and we got really close. Tonight she passed away (12/10/21) it really hurts. She was my closest pet and my childhood pet. I'm currently listing to this song to cope Edit: 20/10/21 The house still feels really empty, I occasionally walk past the kitchen where she was most and except to see her, only to be hit with the fact she's not there. It's been surprisingly difficult dealing with her death. She was my cat, she helped me through a lot of bad times, times I didn't think I'd survive. I have never been without her, she's been in my life since I was only a few months old. I miss her so much, but I know she had a long (she was 21ish years old, we got her when she was 4ish) and very loving life, and a warm place to pass. Even though I miss her, and it's taking a long time to heal, I'm happy she was in my life

A lot of comments I've read are interpreting this as a love song, but to me this song seems more like a metaphor for a mother saying goodbye to their kid as they move out to college (or just move out in general I guess). But maybe that's just how I felt this song related to me, it makes me think of my mother and I tear up a bit every time I listen to this song.

I guess we all give it the meaning we need. To me is also about love, but not about the classic girlfriend/boyfriend stuff, it's about so much more, it's about someone special, someone who's above those concepts, something like family, but she's not family, she's like... pure love and dreams. So much love that if someday she needs to go and live her dreams far far away I'll understand.

I agree, I think of my Son who hasn't spoken to me in 8 yrs. It's like a death but not as bad because I can still imagine he will speak to me again one day. So the song is really about tough transitions like a mother letting her child move on to explore the world or the loss of a loved one who leaves the physical. It's about letting go with love and grace.

This song was chosen by a 5 year old boy to play at his dad's funeral - safe to say there were no more dry eyes when he started singing along.

I recently lost my best friend. She had blonde hair, like a lions mane. She would do Yoga, and run through the woods with me, and bust out beautiful paintings like you wouldn't believe. She was my star. And I didn't mind being in the background, I loved to see her show off. I loved to watch her present all the amazing things she created with her hands. We're a lot different from eachother but we were very close. I liked to be her rock, the one who she could lean on for support. Now shes gone, and I think of her when I listen to this. I still really miss her. We had a falling out, and started to fight over really stupid things. I still see her, and she still reminds me of a star. But I'm no longer her sky.

ugghhh, i remember hearing this every evening when i was 15 years old and beyond depressed. Now im 21 years old, almost 22. Im hear to tell you guys, i does get better. Not even remotely close to the better life that you'd expect, but it does get slightly better. Just hang on, evening if your hanging by a string and feel like everything is pulling you down. By all means necessary, never ever ever purposefully exit the realm. That's a quick way to get yourself permanently fucked. If it's you against the world, you're going to win, so *fuck* that.

My girlfriend and I broke up kind of recently after dating for about 5 years. I made horrible mistakes and I ruined something incredible. This was our song. She's recently stopped talking to me entirely and I can't get rid of this gaping hole inside of me. I've lost so much because of stupid decisions. Please, if you have a relationship, something genuinely special, never put anything above it. Nothing is worth losing a once in a lifetime chance at pure love. Someone I loved with all my heart once sent me this song. It became a theme for us and it was beautiful. But time eroded those feelings and showed the true rock beneath and the love was untrue. For a long time I could not listen to this song without feeling such a great loss that my soul cried out. It still hurts, but I can endure it now. Amazing how much clarity pain can bring.

I used to listen to this song as a teenager, over 15 years later I'm now pregnant and I sing this to my baby while she's in the womb. Listening to this song so many years later in a different mind set gives it a whole new perspective.

Got introduced to this song in highschool and for some reason me and my little sister both loved this song and would constantly sing it to each other. She passed away this past April and now this song means so much more.

Ah, yes, this song always makes me cry... reminds me of my past friendships and relationships, my current ones too. I don't want to lose anymore friends.

Everyone keeps talking about unrequited love and losing loved ones, but that is not the message behind this song at all to me. It is about pure unconditional love. The speaker doesn't wish to be left, but they will not only accept being left. They will be the wind in their partners sail to greener pastures. If you love something let it go. Love is not about possession, or how the person feels about you in return.

When I have kids I am going to sing this to them before they go to sleep. I like this so much as a lullaby.

this song brings me back to when i was 7 or 8. My babysitter showed me this song and i couldnt sleep. She played this song and i fell asleep. Its crazy how time flies. I've been trying to find this song for 5 years. I used to listen to this when I was having bad days with my stepmom when I was a younger. I would always imagine as kid that I had a healthy mother loving me and holding me. As a kid this really had helped through life now I'm almost and adult and this gives all the cherished memories I had with my mother before her schizophrenia had taken her ability to take care of me. My stepmother has been physically abusive towards me and this is one of the few songs I listened to when I was a bit younger :)

I just had my first baby a day ago and remembered this song. I played it for him and it honestly made me cry so hard. I love this song, and I love my sweet tiny handsome little son.

I long ago dedicated this song to my old aged dog, she is now almost 15 and today is her last, and couldn't help but cry and come back to her song. Today she fell again and started having a series of mini seizures and hyperventilating. She has had a background of falling due to arthritis. I hope when she is laid to rest she will no longer hurt but start again being her puppy self as she was 15 years ago when I met her at 5 years old. I love you Cloie, forever my best friend ❤

Became the night sky, no star too shine, no stardust, just the space she left.. This song just sums up everything what's happened... I had a long distance friend, I'm from the Netherlands and she lived in England, we used to play games together almost every night or watch movies together through skype, We would even sent each other stuff sometimes, she gave me one of her favorite books once. But one day she moved to america because her boyfriend lived there. She sent me this song the night before she moved, and I listened and cried all night to this song because I knew I was going to miss her and barely speak with her because of the time difference, and we actually did grew apart. This song always reminds me of her and the fun times we had!
