What’s your boat horror story? Mine was seeing the boat trailer come off the hitch halfway up the ramp. Thank the lord for safety chains!

Went fishing one day during the week got in the water and on the way pretty quick, got to my 1st honey hole did my 1st drift and I noticed the self bailing scuppers under water. I thought I had a cracked hull then i realized i forgot to put plugs in. My old Majek has 5 plugs. I put the 2 upper plugs in and figured as soon and I got moving the water would make it's way out and I could put the rest of the plugs later. Took off and the boat was so heavy I couldn't get on plane. So I had to put along about 5-7mph back to the ramp, which was about 2 miles away. The worst part was my wife was with me. I didnt tell her what was going on till I was close to the ramp. Even then she freaked out and thought we were going to sink and both drown. Got the boat on the trailer and watched water pour out of it for the next 15mins. Last check you do before getting the boat in the water is check that your plugs are in .

Two words: drain plug. Something else new boat owners may not know about.

Put a jack plate on a older skiff and relocated the steering tube cause it hit the hull and bent the steering arm that connects to motor / tube ...well when I made a test run and caught fish, did doughnuts it was fine. When I was pressure washing I noticed the steering arm cracked! I’ve since found a ball joint steering arm that fit perfectly and have zero issues. But lucky it didn’t break when running. Big thing I check frequently after motor/trim/ jack plate is my nav/anchor and trailer lights. Always ground my trailer lights at the tongue, really helps.

It’s a good thing you caught that lol! And our trailer needs to be rewired I’ll have to do it at the front, appreciate the tip.

Wait a second you said to unhook the winch from the boat but you did not tell them they need to have a safety rope laying in the boat to hold on to or tie to the dock because sometimes you unhook a boat and if your trailer has rollers the boat will just roll away Into the Water by itself. I usually reach down from inside the boat to unhook my winch. Start the boat and back off

A good point, I’ve never used a trailer with rollers on it!

Would check to make sure it is not dry rotted. If you want to be safe could take it off and run it by your local tire shop to be sure.
