10 Must-Have Boating Items (For Fishermen)

Ойын-сауық

When you’re out on the water, you can’t run back home real quick if you forgot something…
That’s why it’s important to bring everything you’ll need with you.
So the question is…
Do you know exactly what you need, and what you don’t?
We’ve brought back Salt Strong fishing coach Capt. Mark “Hollywood” Johnson of Florida Keys Fun Fishing to give us the breakdown of what he and his captains bring on the water with them.
And not to date Capt. Mark, but he’s spent literally decades on the water, so he knows a thing or two about what you need to bring.
Watch this video to see the 10 must-have boating items for fisherman.

Last time I checked, an inch hasn't changed for a long time! Ha ha ha! Instead, bring your fishing regs! I always have gloves in my boat as my motor is an older one which is a mix 2-Stroke. Have tools in her as well. Can't afford to spend $1/2 million on a new motor. Very good stuff, even for us in the inland Pacific Northwest. Great list.

For me the backstop for comms is an EPIRB. I carry a cell phone, VHF & an EPIRB. I've often wondered about those lip-grips - looks like a useful tool. I'd still keep a tool-kit onboard. But I do most of my own servicing (a 2004 Merc 140 2-stroke), so I do know my way around it :-) Good article - I enjoyed it! And I like the additional comments others are making :-)

Great information. But I have to politely disagree to the tool box reference. I understand it doesn't apply a lot to today's newer engines but having been a boater in Florida for 30 years I have learned a vast majority of people are not always able to afford newer equipment. Myself especially. Therefore I have a special "boat box" that I store a lot of necessary items in and can be easily taken out at the end of the day. Makes prepping for a trip more fun (especially with kids) you know how your stuff is fairing and less likely to become somebody else's property. Just my take but great video as always

Shaking my head as I think back to how many trips I took to the farthest most desolate parts of Ontario Canada with nothing but a boat, A good rain suit, and fishing gear.... No sat phone, no Cell phone, no Flares, no gun, not even a pair of toenail clippers....

The first thing is not a phone, the first two things are lifejackets and an EPIRB. I carry spare props and tools on all of my three boats. Not all boats today have outboard motors, all sorts of things can go wrong out on the water so, with a few spare parts (pulley belts, hoses and fuses etc) and a bit of know how can get you home. The ocean is a big place, prepare for the unexpected.

What about a med kit? Y’all didn’t mention it but thats an important pice of gear when toothy critters come in the boat.

FAK????? First Aid Kit with a tourniquet and the knowledge of how to use it? You could accidentally fall and seriously cut yourself. How do you stop the bleeding?

i refuse to buy modern unfixable motor. no built to fail trash for me. horrible advice to buy something unfixable so you don't have to carry a tool kit.
