Boat Load of Spanish Mackerel!! Chummed up! Catch Clean and Cook

In this episode we run toward the Gulf of Mexico from Islamorada in search of Spanish Mackerel. We are on our Shallow Sport X3 bay boat and our friends Dawson, Frank, and Andrew join myself and Sara. After a few hours of fishing we have all the mackerel we want and head back home to cook it up. We decided to bake it in the oven, which everyone seemed to enjoy (but me). The kids were all over it! Enjoy!

You can never go wrong with marinating your fish in milk, specifically buttermilk (add lemon juice to regular milk and let sit for an hour or more and you get a great substitute). I took a bluefish that I had never had before, but when I researched it for a recipe I found out it is a really fishy tasting fish, especially if you don't bleed it out. Well, after I marinated it for 24 hours in buttermilk and backed it with diced tomatoes, onions, lemon, and dill......it was absolutely delicious.

I been fishing since the 1960's and I ❤️ fresh oil fish my three favorite are #1 Spanish mackerel, #2 Bluefish, #3 King Fish all concidered low grade eating fish by most people but I will take them over Snapper any day. Plain with a little dash of sea salt and a little un salted butter and broiled or pan fried in same, or breaded with egg/milk, flour and smashed up Kelloggs corn flakes as my breading and fried in oil. Dont like masking any of my fish with sauces or marinating other than cooking the above ways or thin slices dipped it in soy sauce if raw. 😊

I haven’t read all the comments on this video but I’ve seen several comment about how you got fed a silver spoon and life is so easy for you. Obviously you’re lucky to have parents that were successful but you’re still out grinding and very well educated in what you love doing. You could be strung out on drugs or just living off your parents but you’re not you’re just being you on video. You have great friends and family so just keep the videos rolling.

Thanks for watching! I just work hard and found a way to make a good living doing what I love. There will always be haters and people who criticize those who are successful. Hopefully one day they’ll realize if they work hard they can better their own life. I remember living in the trailer park 4 nights a week in high school with my mom and stepdad a few years after my parents divorced, but we’re a long ways from that now. I’ve still got more goals to achieve and places I want to see, so there’s still work to be done

Yellow spots are oil glads.. as soon as you catch them, take the back side of your knife and rubs the skin. Yellow spots go will secrete the oil through the skin and the meat will not be as fishy and oily tasting. You will know when the oil comes out because yellow spots will no longer be seen on the skin. Ice clean and cook completely different fish taste.

You passed up a 10,000 dollar charter to fish for a few nasty tasting mackerel......You said you had a backlog of charters all the time to pay for that new boat that you seldom use. Hmmmm...watched a little.......if it is one of these expensive charters.....I pit the customers for these fish. Most of the guys use these for chum.

Which new boat that I seldom use? The 42’ Freeman has over 2100 hours in a year in a half. (Technically more since we shut some of the motors off while fishing). My deckhand Capt Mike runs a lot of those trips. The X3 has around 300 hours on motor, and more on the hull since we shut motor off a lot too. I enjoy making KZread videos and that’s one of the reasons I have boat sponsors, tackle sponsors etc. I used to fish 150-200 trips a year, I’m happy doing less now. I’ve also been selling some boats so not doing too bad 🤷🏻‍♂️.

@@StanzFam Well said for your few readers sir.......People would not pay you these fees to Mackerel fish....You can catch them about anywhere in the gulf with some chum......anyway......thanks for responding....I will not attack you anymore unless you wish it to happen so you can brag on yourself.

You can attack me all you want in the KZread comments. We’re playing in different leagues and going different places in life. I’ll keep fishing and making videos, People will still pay me good money to take them on fishing charters, companies will sponsor me and I’ll promote their brands, I’ll keep selling boats, and you can continue to watch and write comments 😁. The good news is you won’t have to worry about me watching and commenting on your KZread channel 🤣
