Boat Lift
The clanking, banging, Victorian Monster that dropped our boat 50 foot into the river
Episode 71
Val and Andrew take narrowboat Reverie onto the Anderton Boat Lift, a Victorian boat-lift designed to transport boats and barges from the Trent and Mersey Canal to the Weaver Navigation. It has recently been reopened after an eight-month refit, and is still in a trial period. Clearly there are a few teething problems. Do we make it onto The Weaver?

Aha! Good click bait. I thought it would be the Anderton. Val looked very intense steering onto the aqueduct. I could really see her as Sigourney Weaver heading for her namesake River. Looking forward to the Weaver, having seen it on other YT channels. I know your photography will be stunning.

I like that these Victorian structures are still doing the job they were designed for, hopefully it will be around for at at least another hundred years

I always enjoy watching videos of this lift. Looking forward to your travels on the river. Now I have a cart load of birch to split and stack for next winters heating. I suppose what I have to gather would last you about 4 winters. Enjoy!

Great to see you both on our screens again. £450k and still not right it would seem we are baffled by Victorian engineering. Keep safe warm dry and virus free both. Safe cruising travels. Thanks for closing with SJ.

I adored the River Weaver. It’s beautiful, especially north of the lift. I left my mobile phone in that caisson. I imagine it continued going up and down until the refurbishment 😊

If CRT were clever, they'd charge £5 to lower you down, and £50 for the lift back up.

Gently lowered over 6 minutes is not really the same as being dropped by a Monster… I’m such a clickbait fool! 😮😅
