this special (Make Happy) was his last tour before he took a 5 year break from performing, he was having severe panic attacks on stage every night (he was having one during this song, he's said he went backstage after this & broke down), you'll discover a lot more about his mental health struggles when you delve into Inside. In regards to this song, I remember watching the special when it came out & crying laughing during the whole thing, but once it got to this song (besides the funny beginning) I SOBBED. full on ugly cry. he has a wonderful way of articulating these feelings & i felt it in my damn bones. v excited to see your reactions to his most recent stuff.

All that Chipotle part it has been interpreted as him describing all the things he is struggling with and no one warning him that he was going to, and if he would've known about it he would have make the chices he make; and actually right before that part he says "Let's do this!" leaving behind the part of the jokes and diving into his problems for real.

Interestingly, even with auto-tune you can still tell Bo is a good singer because he isn't getting the "warbling" effect you get when Autotune has a hard time adjusting your voice because you're hitting in between. The fact that it's "clean" like that means he's hitting the notes he's meaning to pretty bang on. Bo has often expressed frustration with his range as a singer (i.e. not being able to hit as high or low of notes as he'd like) and I think often uses autotune as a method to extend his range, which is a very different usage than people using it to cover for poor singing.

Bo has never been on my radar before "Inside". I don't know, was never a fan of musical comedy. But "Inside" changed my opinion 180°. That special left me devastated and exhausted and I'm in love with Bo ever since. From his old YT word play stuff to his specials, even his directorial work in "Eighth grade" is such a masterpiece. He's a heavyweight, when it comes to content creation. In "Can't handle This" he mixed the auto tune himself, first with a foot pedal, then he turned the knobs when he was down on his knees. Every bit from the Kanye intro through the Pringles, the daughter to burrito was exactly there to lure the audience to the edge, just to push us over with his breakdown. Gosh, even the little tongue ad lib was there to drop our guard completely, so the next stab could be more effective. Bo knows how to manipulate an audience as the salute during "Repeat Stuff" or the raised hands in the Pringles bit. I'm always excited to accompany you on this journey. Loved your reaction! I'll be back for sure sis :)

So going completely from interviews with Bo and not on here say, this special was filmed from two performances on the same day. The first one he was very stressed and nervous with the pressure to get it right, he did have a panic attack as had happened before during the tour. He left stage, broke down, sobbed and was shaking for at least an hour and needed oxygen. Then he had to pull himself back together and do it all again, this time more calmly. The special cuts back and forth continually between the two shows. Apart from the obvious pull to feel sympathy towards him for what he's going through, I am so in awe of the strength it must have taken to do that.

Respect for picking up on the severity ,seriousness and sadness of the ending of "Can't handle this". I have seen a number of reactions of people by which this went completely over their head. They just kept laughing and thought this was funny, when in reality it is really sad. You basically see him having a panic attack and mental breakdown on stage and call out for help to an audience that for a large part didn't get that. And I think he describes it so well what it is like to be a content creator and being hit by that amount of success.

Thank you for being one of the ONLY reactors who doesn’t pause his work while reacting, it’s so frustrating and unnecessary for anyone to do it and yet most do. What they don’t realize is that that’s not how it was meant to be experienced. It’s a performance, a magic trick, it’s not meant to be paused to break down what we already know is happening. Otherwise the magic trick doesn’t work. I would much rather people watch it twice and break it down on the second watch, similarly to what you do. So for real, thank you. Great channel. Can't Handle This is Bo's magnum opus. There are many songs that he's done before and after that are amazing, but this one has humor (including the perfect method of overdoing a joke), as well as breaks down his mental state as a performer so well. It is just perfect. A few years after he released this, my ex-wife overdosed in front of our kids (she survived, but has been in and out of prison since) and I was alone to raise all four kids. I certainly felt like I couldn't handle that, but here I am over five years later.

Well, you can definitely tell that Can't Handle This (Kanye Rant) was a genuine first watch, for sure. I think I nearly fell out of my chair laughing in my office the first time I saw it too. One of the things is that at least Bo Burnham knows that his fans come to him partially because they know it's a combination of comedy and real shit.

A lot of people miss how when he goes back to the burrito part of the song, he’s coming full circle and letting us know that what he’s really talking about is the life and fame he’s got now. He “wouldn’t have gotten [it if he ]knew it wouldn’t fit” That blew my mind when I realized it. So good 👌🏼

Some of his new songs have helped me get through deaths in my family. Bo said it best "I cant solve the worlds problems...but i can try to heal the world with comedy"

I'm so glad you managed to upload this one! "Can't handle this" never fails to give me goosebumps. Others have said this as well, but I'd suggest you don't react to the remaining videos by themselves. Goodbye, That Funny Feeling and All Eyes On Me are the ending songs of Inside so if you don't watch the rest of the special, they won't hit as hard. ESPECIALLY All Eyes On Me. (both "welcome to the internet" and "white woman's instagram" should be fine though, they can totally be reacted to as stand-alone pieces) I've seen a bunch of people react to the entire special (either in one long video or in multiple parts), so it's definitely possible! Putting words over the video (like you did in this reaction), or making the screen smaller is the main thing I see others doing to avoid copyright strikes. Btw, love your reactions Alice! I found you through the bo reactions and I'm so glad i did. You seem like such fun person to be around and I'm IN LOVE with your laugh, it's super contagious!! Keep up the awesome work :D

Can’t handle this is hard for me to watch sometimes because he’s said how he went back stage after filming Make Happy and was sobbing and shaking and completely broke down (search Bo Burnham Anxiety he talks about it on the H3 Podcast there’s some clips on YT). You should watch the whole special if you feel up to it (same with Inside). The song at the end (are you happy?) makes me cry every time.

I've seen another channel react to Bo's specials (What., Make Happy, Inside) where he broke them up into chunks, but recorded/posted them in the same order as in the special and included the in-between bits so that each video picked up exactly where the previous left off. It worked pretty well! Each "chunk" was usually a song + some of the surrounding bits/banter.

The metaphorical juxtaposition between the burrito spilling over and feeling like he's taking on too much... Accidental, apparently. Or subconscious. He's denied drawing that connection on purpose, but it's right there. It's a perfect parable, and he didn't even mean to do it. That's freaking poetry.

Bo always seems to downplay his lyrics in interviews, and I'm unsure how much of that is him being self-depricating and how much is true. Anyway, the most important detail is clearly that he prefers hard-shelled tacos to burritos, which we can all agree is just plain weird... 😄

It has been a joy to watch you watch Bo's evolution. Following this, I recommend All Eyes On Me. It provides context for Can't Handle This. But all of his specials (what, Make Happy, and Inside) are very worth watching. About Can't Handle This, there's been talk about the burrito being a metaphor for fame; it gave him more than he could handle. And pay attention to the way the shots are framed when he talks about "my biggest problem is you." It's only him on screen. Then, it goes to "guess I should just shut up and do my job," and the audience lights up while he becomes so back-lit that he's nothing more than a faceless silhouette. Almost like the performer doesn't matter; it could be any body, as long as the performance is "funny and it rhymes."

And you should react to Are You Happy? which is the actual last song of the Make Happy. I don’t think there’s a regular video of it on KZread, but there are lyric videos.
