BMW X7 v Range Rover: ULTIMATE luxury test!

When it comes to luxurious 7-seater SUVs, it doesn’t get much better than the BMW X7 and Range Rover LWB!
The question is - If you’re looking to splash the cash on a high-quality SUV, which should you choose? Well, Mat is here to run you through these two contenders to see which is best!
When it comes to the design, these two are pretty different to each other but still look good from the outside. Not only are they both imposing due to their size, but they both manage to stand out. The Range Rover looks sophisticated from the front to the back, while the BMW X7 looks pretty imposing with an aggressive front end.
Both cars come with a high-quality interior, too. The X7’s cabin is covered in high-quality materials, and this face-lifted edition comes with BMW’s all-new infotainment screen and system - the same one as found in the new iX. It comes with a number of physical buttons, and almost most controls are managed within the screen. The Range Rover also has an all-new infotainment system, coupled with a large infotainment screen on the dash. It has more physical buttons than the BMW, but unfortunately, there are a couple of bits of plastic trim to be found.
Both cars come with various engine options, and the range-topper in both is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. However, while the Range Rover can produce 523hp, BMW is slightly up on power, at 530hp.
Finally, we have the price. Naturally, neither car is cheap, but while the BMW X7 range kicks off at £85,000, the Range Rover comes in a fair bit higher, at £107,000! If you want the two cars we have here, they will cost you £116,000 and £127,000 respectively.

0-60 in 4 secs (on wet roads) is nuts! But for my money I can’t get passed those looks. The RR is just much more “desirable” and I’m a huge fan of the minimalist redesign.

your review is spot on. People buy these for the magic carpet ride. I own a x7 and range rover. I will tell you right now, the x7 rides better (if you put on non run flat wheels). It's just as soft as the range rover, but it feels more planted and precise. When you go over bumps your car feels solid like one unit, whereas the range rover, you feel loose, and you hear some rattling that is absolutely unacceptable for a car at this price. Unless you can't become confident until you drive a Range to show your success, get the x7 please. It's a much much better SUV...

I absolutely love BMW engineering.. second to none and only Porsche competes but the brand prestige and pedigree of the Range Rover is the sole reason why I am loyal to the brand. Ordering a full size Range Rover this summer!

When I was looking at buying an SUV (2016 - Pre X7), I discounted the BMW X5 as "too small". I looked at the Range Rover, but found the staff in the dealership rude and ignored you unless you rocked up in a suit or a sports jacket, so I narrowed my decision to a Q7 with almost all options and it is an amazing car. However, I would definitely give the X7 a chance in a similar comparison with a new Q7, as tech and comfort levels look top notch in the X7. But between the RR and the X7, I would also plump for the X7.

I haven’t been in the market for a car in a while, and won’t be in a while, yet Matt makes me totally watch all the drag videos and comparisons. The day Matt leaves CarWow, is the day it dies.
You guys should do a comparison on like the early 2000s audi tt vs some of its competition on that time, I've noticed a lot of cars of that Era are getting popular again. Edit: Actually maybe like a mk 1 vs the newest tt
Crazy to think about that right now here in Germany you get about 15-18% discount on the X7 and about 3% on the RR.
Both are beautiful in so many ways. But the BMW digital dials look cheap when it's not flush to the dashboard like the RR. The RR is far nicer in the driver's seat because of how everything is laid out.

In my opinion, the layout of the Range Rover is way worse. The center screen looks like that a tablet that was hastily placed in there.

@@fumega Yeah my dad had a Range Rover and I didn't like the jnterior design of it (layout) it was just like this RR interior (that was 2018/19 model) after that we got the Audi Q7 and the Audi doesn't feel like a block on the road anymore, the interior also gave a blocky feel to the range rover. The Q7's interior is also very premium but just feels more dynamic, more lines and dynamicness on the bodywork although the interior just feels so much better to the eye.
I love the comparisons! Please do more!

Awesome video. How come the RR has no daytime running lights which I thought were law these days in the UK since 2012 ?
Currently choosing between the two and with having a defender 110 I am disappointed with the build quality so will have to move to the dark side!

That stuck on iPad is awful in the Range Rover. BMW X7 all the way here, better to sit inside front or back as well. The looks have grown on me too. 4 seconds to 60 is absolute madness.
The comparison we needed was which one goes back to dealer the most for repairs and how much it costs for repair and owning the car over the 5 years.

The RR is close to 200k in some versions. And, we know how JLR does in reliability reports - Dead last.
Also interesting that everyone seems to have their lights on (understandable with the weather) but the Range Rover doesn’t even have Daytime Running lights on, obligated..

When I look at SUV at this price range, I look for comfort and luxury. The Range Rover will provide more room, more luxury, and more comfort. I would go for the Range Rover for those reasons.
Did I notice air vents in the rear for the back row passengers in the RR? That does help in keeping people cool and less car sick.
Came for the cars, stayed for the measuring tape and the stick of truth 😂

Normally I'd take the Range Rover any day of the week but not in that dreary spec... I'd take the Autobiography with the cream interior over any other suv.

For you next video, you should compare the Suburban(Chevy), Yukon XL(GMC), Escalade ESV(Cadillac). Unfortunately the American Cars are probably hard to import.

Why no GLS in this comparison? And do you mention the engine specs for each of these cars? You only mentioned that the RR was a diesel but obviously it doesn't have the top-range engine despite the X7 does.
Both the BWW X7 and the Range Rover have a unique sporty design with a lot of performance from a lovely V8 engine!

I absolutely loved the old X7 but it isn't in the same league as the Range Rover. The Range can do everything the BMW can do plus towing, and insane offroad capability. However, the main reason I wouldn't have an X7 is that they ruined the styling of it. The old one was gorgeous and brilliant, the new one just looks like a Hyundai. For me, the Range Rover is the better car simply due to the fact that it's a gorgeous thing to look at. Also if you get the 4.4 V8 you’ll enjoy decent enough performance as well. Not M60 performance, but decent performance nonetheless.

My dad had one, it's interior was just like this and it just didn't feel special or that cool and the car felt more blocky to drive as well in his experience. The Q7 we have now has lines going on, bit more of a dynamic nature all splendid with Quality materials and a much better interior imo than the RR we had.. I do love the German SUVs more.

Not a fair comparison. If you test the M version of BMW, then test the SV version of the RR. Also, for the twisty bits, he put the BMW in a sport mode, but did not for the RR and said it wasnt as firm as the BMW - you can see the RR was still in D mode on the instrument panel.. At Least make them like for like....

These are bottom of the barrel junk. Hideously unreliable. The BMW fries itself on Boat ramps, something that a normal car can do no problem. These and the 6 series GT fry themselves the water gets up the rear subframe. And the Rangey is outright horrific I don't even know where to start with that mess of a thing, they've managed to make them even more unreliable now. I didn't even know that was possible

Wow that was a very close turn passing the bus! With a steering wheel that’s light and numb, usually a recipe for disaster in such situations when you are more guessing where you have placed the front tires.
