@@yc_030 because his times are way out he thinks a TurboS does a 10.4sec for a start. Fastest time stock at Santa Pod for TurboS is 10.7 and to double down on that Cleetus McFarland had a remapped and piped TurboS and even that wasn't managing under 10.6sec. Cleetus is a far far better drag racer than Mat and he was in a near stage1 TurboS. The timing box Mat uses is notorious for being easy to con and easy to calibrate wrong to gain performance. Some people even claim that timing box is so bad that if its not mounted directly to metal it doesn't even register the first 0.2.

@@bigduphusaj162 I don't know, it's difficult to be sure. Other testers have beaten some of his times with other cars. His is set to 0-60 rather than 0-62 which makes a slight difference. BMW understate the HP and sprint times, there's even another video on this channel recently showing that to be the case with HP.

@@StopMediaFakery modern dynos aren't even close to accurate. Steve Morris spoke about how much more accurate older dynos were that relied on mechanical parts more than algorithms. Stick any production car on an older dyno and the figure will be a fair bit less. He thinks the dynos can be off or different as much as 300bhp on his big 5000bhp lumps. The times at santa pod for the cars Mat has on here are always slower. TurboS for example does not do a 10.2 or 10.4sec, they come in at 10.8 fastest stock with better tyres on. Even remapped with an exhaust they don't do 10.4sec see Cleetus for proof. Cleetus obviously being much better drag racer than Mat too.

Great review as usual Matt! This car is MASSIVE! However,this new touch control trend is a real let down. You have to leave your eyes off the road for such a long time just to adjust the temperature of the car and all. Manufacturers must get rid of this and give us back physical button so we can adjust things on the fly, without even looking at the button (provided we remember the button layout though)

X7 is amazing, even the 40i version hustles, and with no 3rd row option on the new X5 builds it's the only 7 seater from BMW. The new iDrive layout is complicated because of a lack of buttons but the excellent voice recognition means you can just say "Hello BMW" to access most of the functionality.

It was an amazing review, mat. It would be more helpful if you could tell the better alternative options of x7 in the final verdict as you said to shortlist it!

Me personally I would go with Porsche cayenne turbo or Mercedes GLS, I think the Porsche is more reliable and the Mercedes looks better and more reliable than the bmw but the Porsche is more reliable out it the 3

I have the 2019 X7 M50D. I’ve loved driving it for the past few years. I can’t imagine me changing cars ever!

I recently got an x5 and I realised how wide it is when trying to park in car parks in the UK. I have a feeling this would be even harder to park. I'd be leaving it on double yellows all the time lol

Interestingly, while the X7 is LONGER than the X5 (5181mm vs 4938mm) its actually narrower (2000mm vs 2015mm) than the X5

I live near a well off area and I've seen soo many of these! It almost feels like BMW town, wasn't fan at all at 1st but love them now. Has so much road presence but seems a bit too big for tiny UK roads

Yeah they look pretty incongruous in the UK, kind of unavoidable that you'll look a bit douchey, far more than in a XC90 etc.

Saw one of these in person and it completely changed my mind on the front end design. It was actually super cool

3.9 sec with THAT wet road and THAT winter tyres ??? ... it could be an easy 3.5 in "perfect conditions"... stunning!

With BMW saying it´s 4.4 sec, I highly doubt that performance. Sure, sometime cars are quicker than manufacturer information, bt not half a second and this with winter tyres on a wet road. I just don´t buy that. Awesome car nontheless tho, I would be happy with 4.4 secs haha

As always an amazing presentation by Matt. However I can’t help but hate the new split headlight design. I don’t know why BMW did it to themselves😢

Good review, i dont really like the split headlights not on the x7 and the 7. The big screens on the inside are a no for me , to bad that they do it on all the models now 😕. physical buttons are in some ways just better, climate etc.

such a good review as always. i've driven bmw's for several decades now, and i'm sad to see them return to using iDrive for common settings (heat/ac, cruise distance, etc.). i test drove the new 760 and found the control experience to be similar to the early days of iDrive - where you needed to go hunting for the most basic controls. call me old (which i am!) but I love and will always want physical buttons for frequently accessed controls. when i launched the new climate menu, i found it very overwhelming. would i get used to it? of course. but one of the most important lessons i've learned in life is to keep the simple things simple!

2017 BMWs are perfect, because they have a touchscreen if you want it, and also physical buttons. I only use physical buttons, but my wife prefers touch screen

U can turn down the ambient lighting for night driving so it’s less reflective. It’s an actually setting in the infotainment system. It’s called night driving mode or something

Abit off topic but my x5 is a indivudual spec with a nice purple on black paint and piano gloss black trim ect.. its a m sport but has chrome grille. Some people at work suggest i should black out the grille but i think the chrome adds to the special indivudual trim. It kind off goes hand in hand

This is one of the more practical and luxurious 7-seaters I've seen in a while.

Watched both this X7 and Ioniq6 reviews back to back. One car stood out as value for money. Civic eHEV, the crew car ;)

Owned a pre-face M50i and I can confirm the engine in these things is insane. The way it handles is insane. I genuinely miss that car every day. I saw a carwow comment, what's best? The X7, GLS, or Q7... Lol. Not even close. The X7 is miles ahead. It's a shame they've skipped out on some of the quality materials on the facelift. But once the deals come back the X7 is well and truly on the shortlist.

@@Insetta the B58 is an utter heap of junk it's one of the worst engines for sale. Not only does its notoriously bad plasma arc cylinder plating crack off at the top 1-2" of the barrels around 40k mark but it swallows its own oil filter🤣 add to that the already weak BMW bottom end journals and the vanos solenoid being a yearly replacement as well as the chain derailment issues. Between N47 and B58 they have put BMW top of the engine failure rate charts. Do not ever claim thr junk B58 is a good motor to an actual mechanic again please. Cheers

Front looks is a bit controversial

I still don't understand heating/cooling cup holders because it doesn't work with insulated cups. I guess if the cup is defective. Paper cups??

​@@tommyk1210 It depends on the rims and suspension. 40d is just an engine index, there are different trim levels. Car bases are completely the same, you can get an adaptive suspension in X5/X7. Suspensions are also different: there's M, M pro and air one. Looks like you've driven X5 40d without adaptive susp. and compared it to the X7 with adaptive one. Wheel size also matters. These cars platforms are completely the same.

NPC spec, you probably alone on that one In my city, you can't get one without the optioned specs You either get 30d Excellence / M 40d Excellence / M M50d M50i M60i That's it

This looks great and i didn't like the 7 Series at first, but having seen some in Person now here in Germany, definitely a Car that looks better in Person. Here is why BMW does such big Changes in Design every few Years: They do that since the late 1990s/early 2000s and are used to People and Journalists calling it ugly. But then they also noticed that the initial Reaction brings Attention to the Car and also more Interest. They noticed that their Sales still go up, no matter what Peoples initial Reaction to a new Design is. So they keep being experimental, something i wish more Car Manufacturers would do. People always complain whenever BMW changes any Design extremely, that's because most other Brands don't make big Changes in Designs every couple of Years like BMW does. So every few Years when BMW does a drastic Change in Design you get the same Comments "BMW Designers lost their mind!" etc. and a lot of People calling the new Design ugly but in the End the Design grows on People or they get used to it and often start to like it. Prost & Cheers from the Bavarian Alps

@@rg6982 I agree with you about the MB interior quality. I just don't like recent BMWs' exterior design language. In my opinion, the front of this X7 is disgusting. That's why I would (despite the inferior quality of Merc interior) choose GLS over this X7. And ps. I drive BMW 5.

Such a shame the normal 7 series lost that chrome strip in the back, for me that made the 7 series stand out

The exterior design actually looks pretty good to me, but they should have kept the silver grill for that classic look

its so strange. I absolutely hate the new 7 series and i7. However, even though i hate the exact same design on the 7, i´m actually really liking it on this X7!

I saw my first G70 7 Series the other day. It had one of the two-tone paints and it looked really good.

This is a very good SUV 🎉❤😊 please we want to see a race between this BMW, MERCEDES GLS AND THE 2023 RANGE ROVER V8 and the LAND ROVER V8 ❤

Probably a great car ! Bland styling. Looks a bit like Hyundai Kona or Skoda Kamiq from front. Range Rover has sheer presence unlike anything else on the road.

Wait what how is this thing doing a 3.9 from 0-60 with close 3 tons of weight thats insane, and the best Thing is its the new S68 Engine, would be Dope if that would be also build up from the b58 that would explain those crazy times.

I think it is a bad design influence trying to let two displays look like one. You can always see the edged between the two displays. No need to sell it as one screen. Thanks for the video")

Whats does that bmw x7 do in dry weather on 0-60 mph. Thats good for wet but i think 3.2secs it will hit

The new Range Rover is gorgeous but I do think if it was my money I'd have to take the peace of mind and get this instead...also as many have already mentioned the split headlight design really works here in a way it doesn't quite on the 7 series

Beautiful car. I am mainly impressed by the V8 (the M type with 530 hp) and by the quality of the interior (seats, displays, .....) . i think that this M 60 i is the only one that can be compared to the RANGE ROVER .

I rented one of the last gen x7 and was pretty disappointed. It was only a 40i so maybe it was missing a lot of options but the infotainment and gauge cluster were so frustrating to use. Although by far my biggest complaint was from when I tried sitting in the back row it had nice pillows on the headrests and that rear sunroof as well but no climate controls or vents at all I was shocked. This was in Florida so it only took a few minutes for that rear sunroof to bake me. The passengers in the middle row turned the AC to full blast and I shut the sunroof but it was still incredibly hot in the rear row and none of the air from the front was coming back. I really couldn’t believe there were no vents or climate controls for the rear seats, it made them unusable without them.

I think is definitely certain: BMW has ohne three best rim designs
